Well, that was a good bunch with a good run today!

A group of 11 with a mix of Jets - Charlie, Matty & Hamish, along with the senior citizens of AlanT, Darryl, Emma, PaulC, Paul Levy, Robbie, Robbo & myself, departed from the clubroom this morning.

Picked up a few more bodies - Campbell H, Gerard, Jess & Lusia (2 more Jets) at the Bridge, at the same time Darryl & Paul split from us to do a shorter route as they were time constrain. It was good to catch up though even though it was a short spell.

The remaining 13 headed round the planned route with the Jets putting in some strong shifts at the front, sometimes too strong :-)
Obviously, once we got to Sinclair Street, we couldn't hold them back. They made an early attack but thankfully Robbie stayed with them, if only to make sure they're all ok :-)
A regroup at the car park at the top followed by what should have been a fast decent was slowed by the constant strong head wind.
A wee mechanical for Hamish on the Lochside road meant for once he was at the back :-) But not for long.

Teas & coffee in Ballochs Corrie Cafe for everyone (except for Gerard & Robbo who skipped it as they had to be back before 12.30 & Matty, who had a lift from his mum as she waited for him in Balloch)

Everyone crossed the bridge except for me as I stayed Northside to head home, I hope everyone got home safely despite the wind!

All in, a good day on the bike, at least it stayed dry if a bit dull. But I cannas ask for more.
Thanks for the wheels & company today, Jets & Wheelers!

Definitely a good start to the year, more of the same please :-)

    Over & out

    Cheers

So compact bunch of 10 worked very well and after 75 miles I had average 20mph. Chapeau to the 6 JWCC within that mini peleton. Got a bit grippy for me up the dreaded drag and on the run in but grand to see so many digging deep.

Interestingly, for me anyway, that average is just what is required for the Arran x 2. And of course it included lots of traffic lights, roundabouts etc. which are not on Arran. However the route is flat round the coast unlike Arran. On the plus side we spent most of the day with 2 bodies in the wind which would not be done on Arran. So, the plot thickens but I believe the double is doable !

Well for the benefit of our absent but most respected friend Alan.
Today was utterly brilliant. A good solid 50 mile chunter in strong wind that will undoubtedly make us so much stronger and better prepared for next year. Banter was brilliant. The barren beauty of the loch Thom moor was only magnified by the winter light. The resurfaced road up the Loch Thom was an absolute pleasure to ride on. I have run out of superlatives to describe that lovely lactate feeling on the Whin. After working up a healthy appetite on this incomparable run I have just enjoyed a leisurely lunch.
Thanks to Robbie, Gregg, Iain A, Martin Lonie for giving me a good solid kicking.

    Thanks Kenny,
I've come across this piece on the club site written by Joe Brunetti (another name we remember with a trophy!):

"There was one fatal accident in the Club when Frank Lauder was killed.  He had just started a 10-mile time trial at the Bird in Hand Hotel, when he collided with a milk lorry which had come out of the road from the quarry.  This happened in 1934."

The rest of the article gives an insight into the club around that time and make a good read, here is a link to it:

Back to basics bogs bunch today with about 16 or so maybe some more to begin with. JWCC well represented with Jan, Alan, Colin, Robbie, Charlie, Andy, James and me. And Jess as well to Gourock. Was fine after the hail at Bishy. Usual script, pace a bit up and down till everyone settles into a rhythm again. Can't believe it's only 3 weeks to full run and last man standing.

The lake Apr run by the gales might also be a good introduction Robbie but can sometimes be harder than a B race if groupings are small (fewer wheels to suck). However it can be good to build confidence in handling race scenarios. see the date is 2nd April

Intrepid bunch of 6 manned up and got it done. Alex exited to rest up for another soaking tomorrow but Scott replaced him minutes later. Hilly road to Greenock then Inverkip to Loch Thom climb then Whin made for a high quality 60 miles. Take a bow those who stuck to rule 5. You know who you are Robbie, Andy and Alex

Johnstone Jets Youth Cycling is delighted to announce its new sponsor, Dooley's Cycles of Paisley. Dooley's will sponsor the Jets until the end of season 2018.
Dooley's Cycles, established 1951, is Renfrewshire's longest established cycling shop and has a great history of supporting local, regional and national teams and events.

Owner Ian Dooley said "I'm really looking forward to helping support the Johnstone Jets. The club is doing great work at the grass roots of cycling as well as identifying and developing talent to a national level. Our shop caters for beginners, amateur and professional cyclists, so I believe this is going to work well for Jets members and their parents."

Johnstone Jets secretary James Simpson said "This is fantastic news for the Jets. Dooley's financial support is great, but it's also great for us to have a partnership with a local bike shop where members can go for help, specialist advice and member offers"
