That was just tough. Couttie time constrained & had to turn off at Greenock. Left me with Robbie & yip literally sucked his wheel to Largs then after welcome stop at B.B. he proceeded to push up Haylie Brae. By time I got up he was showing signs of hypothermia due to his long wait.

C’mon Rob. It was all McT’s fault. He might have 19 BC points this year already but he needs a ski lift to get up the hills. We could have got em Robbie

Screamer. Picture postcard day to be round the coast. It was a bit cold if you were in the picture mind you. 10 of us rolled a high and smooth tempo to Largs. Young team were out and some calming words required as we set off at Tuesday night pace and I was dipping into the red before Bishy. It felt hard, I think it must have been as we were at Largs for 11.35 which is about the earliest I can remember. Continued on in same vein and bodies like me started to sit back from Ardrossan due to gubbedness. 4 of us got pumped on the lower slopes of the Kilimanjaro drag. It was a scenic but sore ride home in the afternoon sunshine from the foot of Kilimanjaro.

This is the most important event of 2018(excluding SAs and DAs) are we allowing skinsuits this year?

    It is getting close!
Just a heads up i'm intending to change things a bit this year to try and keep the competition a bit closer. I made it out most weeks last year which resulted in getting an large lead by the end of July. This meant if someone missed a few weeks with injury or if they occassionally had commitments other than cycling on a Thursday night then they were pretty much out of the running.
So rather than it taking place over the whole summer it will now be a monthly competition. There will be an April winner (first one of the season will likely be 29 March which will be added to April scores, May, June, July and August). September we can decide when it happens - there were only a couple chaingangs in September last year and one of them was up and down the Georgetown a couple of times.
Unless the road surface is repaired then i dont think the Houston 30 is suitable anymore for an intermediate sprint. Perhaps move to the Georgetown where the road is smooth (and wider) towards the reception centre entrance. This is close to the finish so gives a choice - sit in and save it for the finish or go for this sprint and risk not having time to recover before the end.
Once the daylight allows the route will vary between usual west ferry and the sewing bee route. Because i know how much you all enjoy that drag from Stewarton

Thanks for the ride guys. Beautiful day, very relaxing and enjoyed the chat. Glad you filled me in on some new forum nicknames (is Alan Mcb really calling himself Penelope?).
PS Don't telly anyone about the strong tailwind up Fairlie Moor. Reckon that's the fastest time I'll ever get.

That was some experience. After puncture, jacket zipping issues and road work closures and having to dodge diggers and holes in the road I managed to just miss the ferry (I know how you felt Robbie!). Having said that there is something addicting about it and I dont think this is the end . I must say, one thing that kept me going is the amazing views that I managed to take in every now and then in the head down tt mode position.
Thanks Paul and Michael for trying to get back to me, but seems like it wasn't meant to be this time...

    Tough afternoon
Started with devil, made an arse of things - was trying to conserve energy for the later races but just resulted in me being out 2nd. Next was scratch, hammer went down and there was a split (and i reckon some collusion with the rt23 guys - one in the break one disrupting the chase!). Managed to claw it back then just a case of hanging on, following attacks, eventually got pumped with  3 to go when it ramped up for the sprint. Last was points, there was a crash midway through with a couple of riders down so neutralised then racing back on with 26 laps to go. 3 eased off the front after the sprint at 20  (Martin Lonie, Jason Roberts and Alan Thomson) and then me, Richard McGhee and John Gartland chasing. Managed to get a 4th at 10 after which it was just me and Richard. Managed to peg the gap but 2 of us aint closing down those 3! Ended up with 4th at the last sprint. So 3 points in total which isnt much but probably wont be all that bad overall.
Average power and speed not much different to a typical wednesday night but it was much harder when the pace picked up.  Could definitely have done with a bigger gear! Bigger legs, heart and lungs too .

James, Glen, John, Davie and me set off from the clubrooms at 9.45 ish. We decided to do a shorter alternative route because of the conditions. Just shy of 40 miles with only one brief snow shower. Good to get out. Until next week.

Good ride today with Robbie, Paul and Cedric from JWCC. Didnt feel the best last night with what felt like a start of a cold. So decided to join the bunch to Largs and then back via Haylie . Once we got through & off going with the adrenaline kicking in I was feeling ok and did my turns. It was hard going with a couple of strong guys pulling through. 5 or so miles before Largs I was still feeling good so thought I would better empty the tank since I'm cutting it short...so on the front head down I cracked on sharing some good VO2 max turns. It was hard but good fun and before I knew it we were at Largs with my legs feeling like jelly. Said farewell to the guys and off I went soft pedalling back.
Thanks for the workout, it was worth it after all...on to next week

Whats the feeling for tomorrow people? Think I'd rather get wet with the bogs bunch  than frozen and break a leg on the Reliability.
