Ian Archibald reacted to charlie p in Sunday 22/4 glen fruin & glen Douglas clubrooms 9am
No worries Chung. Only 4main bunchers Billy Mac Glen myself & Cedric out today. Martin Mulholland & Gavin faeEdinburgh joined us for a bit. We cancelled Glen Fruin & opted for local hills. Cedric was too cold so left us for Erskine bridge. Martin & Gavin left us at Langbank & on lap 2 ofhilly circuit Glen went home. Billy & I persevered fora bit longer but eventually gave up.
Got home early thinking would get brownie points. Not a bit of it. Wife says we are all too soft & that we have been out worse in Winter. She has a point.
Will post same route for next Sunday. Only Post if coming. Don’t post to say not coming & certainly don’t post to say u r going out on Saturday instead. Not that I am jealous of u wimps that enjoyed the sunshine yesterday.

Ian Archibald got a reaction from stevie in ARRAN :)
Thanks for the assistance round yesterday. Quite disappointed with the time and I think even without the punctures the time would be slow. My average power for the first 40km was 228 watts and 251 watts for the last 50km. 7mins down on the round Arran KoM at the top of Lochranza climb so can't even blame the headwind on the run in to Brodick.
My thoughts are we need to practice our paceline technique. For example I don't feel we were nailing our turns on the front sufficiently, especially on the downhills which was hard given the potholes and tight bends
Anyway shouldn't beat you all up. The target was get the ferry. We did that. We need a new target Frustrated!

Tongue in cheek. Early mornings in April are too cold. Weather too variable. My point was getting up at 5am for a trip round Arran is weird. My friends would think I was touched. It’s only 56 miles. Hardly epic. But we are quite fit and if we were to go to retake the Strava segment... 9 45 ferry is sane. Still be home at a reasonable time in the afternoon for people with jobs, family, friends and pet dogs.

Ian Archibald got a reaction from George in Sunday 1April Galston legbender ( take 2) 9.00am club rooms
9am Club Rooms. I may have to take legal action, Sale of Goods Act 1066, if the Galston Legbender doesn't bend the legs. I'd like to attack the hills if anyone is up for some efforts... wind direction could suit the Bowfield climb segment.

Ian Archibald reacted to P McDonald in Can someone explain the Arran challenge?
ok Stevie
It is 56 miles around arran. The classic challenge is the single loop between to 0700 ferry and the return at 1105. effective time once you get off ferry and get back on in time is 2h45m which means an average just over 20mph for the 56 miles. It is challenging as the roads are twisting turning up and down which means lots of braking and hits the average. Approx 20 people are in the hall of fame for the single. Once you do that which I think you definetly could do, there are 4 other halls of fame.
1) The 56+50 which is one single plus a second loop with a minor short cut, this between 2 ferries (5 in this Hall of fame)
2) The solo single (3 have done this)
3) The new kid on the block, the winter single which must be on winter bike and winter ferry timetable (4 people attempted this winter but no one done it yet)
4) The mythical and immortal DA, the Double Arran, 112 miles at average 20mph (2 in this Hall with lots of help from super domestiques). You should definetly set your sights on this as it will truly change your life. It will also cripple you for a week
am I selling it

Legends were made that night as the 2 unassuming and modest heroes rode their way into the Georgetown hall of fame. Such a display of daring and panache will echo down through the generations.

Is their an algorithm for filtering out negativity? So depressed knowing people have such good excuses for not doing things. I’ll be along because I don’t have a life. No mates, no family, no job, no illnesses, no broken bikes, no sympathy.

Mr A, think of all the negativity this forum filters out of mainstream social media. If we could encourage more curmudgeons to vent on here it would be a positive for society.
Perhaps we could set up a venting column on the forum? I mean I just paid £3.20 for a latte in Central Station to get over the shock of paying £5.70 for a return from Paisley Canal. Venting about it on here saves my colleagues from listening to me drone on.
and don't get me started on the price of a pint.
