Wow, that was indeed a splendid day on the bike with fellow Wheelers!
Just filling in a few minor details just to complete what everyone wrote above.
The two café stop was enjoyed outside under glorious sunshine ........ in March :-)
No major mechanical until Paul grew a few inches & decided that he need to adjust his saddle on top of the Duke's Pass, disaster as the bolt would not thread back on properly. With a loose saddle & avoiding to look like he was constantly "jiving" while peddling, he rode all the way to Callander with his backside perch in mid-air :-) It was a good Thomas Voackler impression indeed.
Luckily, Darryl came to his rescue & managed to fixed the problem when we reach Callander, with nothing more than a bit of "duct tape" that he had with him.
Pure genius!
From now on, I'll be carrying a bit of duct tape in my tool bottle too!
What with the Evans Cycle sportive around that neck of the woods, we did encounter quite a few cyclist on the road, but nothing we could catch a wheel on. So, our bunch of 6 worked really well as a group to make it all the way round. Until we got to Milngarvie where upon again I left the bunch to stay North side to head home solo via the Col de Ayr Road with a bloody head wind too.
Eventually got home with 173km ridden, not as much as last Sunday for me, but still over a ton in 2 consecutive Sundays ............ not bad going ......... considering it's only March!
Anyway, thanks for the wheels & company today chaps .............. Dunoon next Sunday then!
Cheers

Epic day out. 101 miles for me. Tough route though: pipe track; dukes pass; braes of Greenock; top of the world; crow road; mug dock; cote de Erskine Bridge

Lovely day for it until about the 60 mile mark where my legs imploded and any rise in the road felt like a mountain.
Unfortunately we still had the Crow Road to do!
Time was marching on so had to bail at Clydebank and get a taxi to Alex's so I could get home on time!!
Cheers for waiting and the wheels chaps

Another big day, with brilliant weather to match, long ups and fast downs, with 100 miles done, 2,000m+ climbs and two cafe stops!
Cheers, Chung, Paul, Richie, David & Darryl.

DavidC reacted to Emma MacLaren in University Track Champs
So the BUCS track champs were in Manchester at the weekend. I'm pretty happy with how all my races went. Saturday the only event I was doing was individual pursuit, which due to a lack of time, they cut down form 3 to 2.5k. I was hoping to get a 4.10 for 3k, and ended up getting 3.31 for 2.5k which placed me 8th, so I think if I had held my pace for another two laps I should have got 4.11-12. Only first and second managed to go below 4 minutes this year with 3.57 and 3.58, and third and fourth got 4.05 and 4.10 in their medal rides over 3k. Sunday was team sprint and points. I hadn't practised team sprint in a few months so didn't know what to expect, but we rode a pb with 39.6 and qualified fourth which put us into the minor final. Sarah my team mate was then given some race wheels for the bronze ride off, however she pulled the rear, and we weren't given a restart so had to settle for fourth overall. Then onto the points race, only 40 laps, but the bunch seemed a bit nervous, and i think there was a few inexperienced riders. There was quickly a big crash taking out 5-7 girls, I think they were all fine after a while, and some rejoined the bunch. Then with 13 laps to go another two went down right in front of me on the banking. Once the race restarted I managed to get on a wheel and cross the line third, picking up 2 points and finishing 7th overall.
So overall I thought it was a good weekend of racing with a good number of Scottish riders picking up medals, and a particularly well contested women's sprint event, which for the first time went to 1/8 rounds rather than just finals. I just want to say thanks for the use of the club disc for the pursuit and team sprint, and for Billy's training plans and advice, and I'm looking forward to improving on these times and racing more throughout the year.

DavidC reacted to chung in Restricted Gear plus 13
Hello There,
A few of us "Vlaanderen" bound Wheelers who were desperate for some km made a late arrangement to do a longish run yesterday.
Seven of us - Alex B, David C, Eric, Iain McGinty, PaulL, Ritchie & myself all met at the bridge for an early 9am start, doing the Dunnon run via Dumbarton, Helensburgh, Whistlefield, Arrachor, The Rest (old valley road), then Struchur (loooooong cafe stop) Dunoon ferry, then back on dry land for a slog back home via the Westferry.
We couldn't have picked a better day in terms of picture perfect scenery especially round the loch sides were just stunning - still water with perfect reflection of the landscape, our photographer in residence - David Bailey AKA Alex Baird took some brilliant snaps along the way, hope he has time to show it. Alex, please don't just show the ones with you bike, by the way :-)
We worked as a group very nicely, keeping everyone together until I struggled big time just before Dunoon (I think it was the pork & teritzo burger & chips that I had) but thanks to the others, I kind of made it to port just in time to miss the ferry Never a great feeling when you're on your knees.
Back on the mainland, pretty much the same for me, sucking on wheels unashamedly just to survive my toll back to Bishopton where upon I departed with the troops to head home solo. Thanks again for the wheels chaps, very much appreciated!
Got home eventually with 183km (112 miles in old money) on my Garmin and totally konked, still 70km shy of Vlaanderens distance, oh dear ..................
Anyway, lovely run despite my situation & apologies to Billy earlier on in the morning when we past just outside Paisley, I didn't clock it was you until we past. I assume you were on your way to the Velodrome?
I need more km ..............
Cheers
Chung

Thanks Chung (huge effort at 183km) and all fellow riders for a long day out around lochs and glens. Certainly pushed me to the limit at times and glad to be hanging on at the back. Lots of new carbon on show as the weather improves (bike envy started already)!
The café stop may have been long but I didn't hear a complaint, given the effects of good steady pace on the lochside rollercoaster to Arrochar and then a climb up the old military road.
Finally headed home up the clune brae rather than west ferry route, gave me less km in distance but a sting in the tail with more metres gained!
Tired satisfaction felt last night.

DavidC reacted to DavieB in South Lanarkshire CX Series 2016 Rnd 4
Hi Paul,
Hope you are feeling better.
I was there on Saturday and agree it is acually a fast, fun course and a shame the numbers are not really there for the organisers. I made my usual challenge for the hole shot and was actually in a group of 4 which had got a bit of a gap at the completion of the 1st lap. The logic of going all in on this course with very limited (numbers and ability) field does not add up, but hey-ho it is fun being up there even for a wee while.
Kind of faded for a bit and then recovered befoire fading again. An in category podium was a possibility on the day as a rider I generaly race on the same level with - and beat the week before - got 3rd in the vets but he was honestly stronger on the day. I ended up 5th but again given limited numbers and abilities this is not that much to write home about.
Missing the 'cross season already but at least it gives me time to now fit my SRAM hydraulic brakes & shifters
Road bike beckons I guess.
