Mark, out of interest this is how Lomond Roads post their club runs...

Nothing particularly new in term of routes but quite a clear way of communicating what's happening over a reasonable time period.

Bill Thomson in Tarbert today around 12,30 just off the ferry from Portavadie on his solo 5 ferries run. Looking fitter than men half his age!

Billy, I'm sure that with a bit of training you'd recover your form..... Oh sorry, you meant the start point.

Great day yesterday at Drumlanrig. The organisers Rolf & Dave and all their helpers are really appreciative of the Wheelers support over the years.

Their Fort William Lochaber 100 event is just as good as Drumlanrig with a fantastic route and even more home baking to wade through. Plenty of B&Bs, caravan parks & camping for the Friday night to bring a social element to the trip!

What a great ride!. Felt comfortable all the way round and stayed with the bunch.
Legs not even tired or stiff this evening!
Glad we kept the bunch together.
Al Y, Alan F and I proved that the old jerseys are faster downhill than the new ones! Clocked 44.7 mph on the run down to Elvanfoot.
    Morning average 18.1 mph.Overall 17.0 mph - a fine run!

Yet another cracking day on the saddle with the Mighty Joansins!

Early start for everyone having to drive down to the start. Chilly morning it was indeed, we rode the first 63 miles loop as a group of 12, we were almost the back marker interms of the start groups. However we made good progress and had it not been a few punctures & Billy very profession slide on some gravel on the road (which took down poor Colin & Andrew, luckily I was a bit far back and manage to avoid landing on Billy), we would have been moving up the road pretty swiftly. As it was, we still manage to pass a number of riders who started way before us.

A well supplied & served lunch stop meant we were all eager to start the afternoon loop. Luckily the slight tail wind up Wanlockhead climb help to ease the suffering just a bit. But the exposed flat section next to the motorway with the strong headwind was a nightmare especially for me, thankfully the guys let me sat in the back and the gel saw me through this tough bit. A quick (not for me) descend back the the castle was spoiled by the fact I was totally gubbed with just a mile to go. I was pedalling squares and the good folks of the Blue & Yellow waited patiently for me to cross the finish line in a bunch ........... thanks, very much appreciated!

I could hardly un-clip myself, but the sight of all those rolls & cakes spurred me on to walk the few meters so I can grab as much as I can, where upon I just stuffed me face :-) brilliant!

P.S Today Colin asked me a question that no one have ever ask me before while out on a bike - "do you carry a cassette lock ring tool?" :-)
Maybe I should from now on, but do I carry a Shimano or Campag? Billy, what do you think?

    Cheers

i was lying in bed thinking that i am going to miss Billys turbo session tonight.I then got to thinking, why dont we do our own training dvd. Most of my get rich ideas dont work because someone brighter has worked out why it wont work, however because i wont get rich my self, it will work!

Most of the dvd,s out there are relativley boring to do, the sufferfest series is ok in some respects. The main problem is that all efforts are perceived, I understand why, however when you are learning you have no idea what heart rate wats ect that anyone else does.

My first thought was to have some club members doing a session that billy had devised and having a wide variety of rider fitness to discuss there cadence heart rate ect.

This soon developed into a cross between a regular session and sufferfest video. We should do a mock up of our reliabilaty rides.Billy could devise a session around the rout of each one.Again each rider could reveal there speed power heart rate ect. We could even have rider s paired to do two up sessions down the georgetown, front rider 1 min on more resistance then swap second rider on more resistance. We could have head wind tail wind, even rain! but i recon thats going to far.

Now the club has a bit of cash flow, this might be a way of making it work better long term.

The expansion of this concept is to have other clubs do the same with there reliability rides,we franchise/take a cut of there video and it expands out from there. We should manage to get a tenner a video and once its made it just sells,we have all the expertese that we need to get this of the ground within the club members. We would be able to supply LBS,evans and chain reaction type shops. They would be persuaded to sell by the fact they are supporting local bike clubs to make money for there coffers.

In five years we might be the only club with its own veladrome.

I have to admit it sounded better in my head than on paper.

    good night

Great ride today with a well disciplined 9.30 bunch. Good to meet Will and see Emma and Andy out.

Every day's a school day with Chung. We learned how to turn a bike into a single gear, that Paul has a manky chain and how to carry out a fruitless chase of a car which can go much faster than a bike. Seriously Chung I never fail to learn something useful from you, just excellent.

Thank you Billy for having the soup and pizza ready for us. You make a gracious host!
