I'll come along for this one Chung, but I see there's a Food Fair on at Largs this weekend: http://www.largsfoodfest.com/what-s-on.html, looks like we might get extra fuel for the return leg if we're still there when they open at 11:00!

The forecast of a light wind and no rain turned out to be a lie. The rain was light, and passed over quite quickly, once the wind got up. About 15 minutes before I went off a stiff breeze sprang up, and was right there in my face for 13 miles. Got to the turn in about 40 minutes, gubbed, then got back in 28, still gubbed.
68:17 for today's effort, 1:19 faster than last year.
It's good to get the first 25 of the year done.

Thanks to everyone that turned up today for the run, despite the fact it was a late posting.

I counted 13 Wheelers from the bridge, I like to think that it was my charming personality that brought everyone out today or to see my lovely "new toy"  But the truth of the matter is the weather was lovely for a bike ride  .........fact!

Alan Mclean, AllanM, Andrew, Boyd, Campbell, Eric, Graham, Iain (JanUllrich), Paul C, Paul (LA_Guns), Peter,  Ritchie & myself made up a fair size bunch & off we went towards Helensburgh, then Rhu & the bunch split just at the Farslane roundabout where Boyd, Graham, Paul & Ritchie opted for an earlier café stop at Garelochhead to leave the rest of us 9 heading round the peninsula climbing & descending our way towards Kilcreggan.

A planned & welcome café stop enable everyone to refuel & Doctor McLean doing his very best to pitch & recruit more DA'ers (Paul will be proud of his effort ) for next Saturday. I wonder how many he's persuaded?

After the café at Kilcreggan, it was a rather brisk ride to the foot of Cote de Glen Fruinn, where upon everyone climb at their own pace to the top. No rush really as Doc McLean had his 2nd puncture of the day on the way up which he was fixing at the top & Andrew also notice his crank was coming loose as we were about to set off. A quick check confirm that his crank axle was cracked, but luckily it was still ride-able .......... thank your lucky star & time for a NEW BIKE I think!

Another quick blast back to the bridge with everyone taking good spells at the front for what was a lovely day of cycling in good weather & great company as always!

Hope everyone got home ok without too much issue or mechanicals!

Thanks again for the wheels & more of the same please

P.S Campbell, any chance of posting some of your photos?

    Cheers

I fancy a shorter version of this also. The Kilcreggan ferry is not running on Sunday's, so suggest cafe stop at Garelochead and back on Chung's route via Glen Fruin as a shorter option. This may suit some 30 milers?

Eric, I'll see you at the Pullman at 9:00, to meet the others at the bridge at 9:30 / 9:40.

The Met Office observation site at Bishy recorded wind speeds of 14-17mph (easterly) between 6 and 7 o'clock, with gusts of 32-36mph. We had a 14mph westerly for last week's confined, and I could more or less ride my bike in straight line then, so I suppose the gusts were the major difference tonight!

Thanks to Carol and Dave for volunteering to run the show. Hope everyone got home safely.

Time Trial cancelled tonight due to high winds. Discussion took place at West Ferry car park with Alan T, Tom Hill, Billy, Richard, Ian Couttie and Paul L and in the interest of safety decided to cancel as bikes were proving difficult to control at the sea front.  Decided to have a consolation run on the Georgetown but when arrived at the start it was just as windy there. Nice sunny warm night though. Carol & Dave

I think the change was due to the club running some CTT events on 18 and 25 so I have to take the blame a bit for this
We have some riders riding the west of Scotland Leauge and I think it's only right that we should contribute to it so we are running 2 25 mile TT as practice for the 25 national , I think if it goes well we will run the same next year prior to the national and our confined events might not need to be altered after the calendar has been produced

Day two of our little jaunt was always intended to be easy going, very much a rest day for the more hardcore cycle back home sorts. We left mid morning into the lifting mist along the road to Castle Douglas. It was an undulating road into a light headwind, going down past Loch Ken. Usual mix of road surfaces, often changing from that sapping rumbling stuff to short teasing bits of flawless, smooth tarmac. We nearly all arrived together at Threave for lunch, the final dash up the driveway was short surprisingly steep.

Warmed and partially dried out after lunch, Graham and Jane chose to return by the same route, leaving Carol, David, Paul and myself to go back via Laurieston on the opposite side of Loch Ken. With the wind on our backs and the road starting to dry out it was a well paced blast back. Despite Carol's claims of innocence the sprint for the thirty had been accepted and I went for it the only way I know how, too early and too fast. David drew level with me on the finish and produced a photo finish. A good little route in different countryside for our mini bunch.

A bit late in leaving for meeting Graham at the clubrooms so not the best start, but it was to say goodbye to my kids so quite understandable. We met up and got underway quickly as we had to meet Paul at the top of Bowfield, we actually meet him halfway down as he was getting cold waiting. Steady pace down to Lugton, Dunlop and Stewarton where we were met bit the hailstones. It did not last and we made it to Kilmaurs for our first stop while the hail came down again.

Refuelled and recaffeinated we pushed on into the sapping headwind towards Tarbolton and Annbank en route to Rozelle tearooms in Ayr. Thanks to precision planning from Graham and steady navigation from Paul then no sooner had we sat down Carol and David arrived to join us for lunch.

Afterwards our route took us down the A731, now with the wind behind us. A brief stop in Patna to say hello to Jane making her way by car and we continued at a good pace with a couple of downhill sprints until Carsphairn. There our support wagon had stopped and the most carefully laid out feed station was ready to welcome us with hot drinks cake and sunshine.

Thereafter we headed on for the last short section to our hotel, becoming a little bit strung out with Paul winning the sprint for the 30 into St. John's Town of Dalry. Finishing the day with drinks and dinner in first rate company our thoughts are of tomorrow and the weather forecast.
