Speak to Mul re accommodation. We have a former Jets dad who runs an outdoor centre that the Jets used for an MTB cam a couple of years back

KennyS reacted to Codg1e in Club Statement re: Updated Covid-19 Guidance
Members, we have received updated guidance from Scottish Cycling regarding club activity during the current pandemic with particular attention to areas in Levels 3 & 4. Specifically, until further notice club rides must stay within the boundary of the local authority (in our case, Renfrewshire). There are no changes to the group sizes which remain at up to seven riders in a club-organised bunch ride. We note that non-club organised rides remain at six riders from two different households only. Please adhere to these guidelines – the clubs reputation is at risk and the law would be broken by not doing so.
Virtual bunch rides continue on Zwift – we now have a 'Virtual Rides' section on The Bunch, full details available in there.
We hope members continue to abide by the guidelines, but for clarity: Any ride organised on The Bunch or the club WhatsApp Groups are club-organised with rider details sent to our Covid convenor, Eric. Any outwith this are not official club rides.
See you Sunday for a Tour De Renfrewshire.
JWCC Committee.

KennyS reacted to thejanullrichdietplan in Club mate racing Euros today, really. Eurosport 4.00pm.
Well done!
Great to see so many Scots starting to make the break through onto the world stage now - perhaps the most impressive thing is it is across various cycling disciplines - track sprinting, track endurance, road racing, TTing, cyclocross, cross country mtb and downhill mtb.

KennyS reacted to Gerard Deeley in Islay
Thought I would share a few pictures of my overnighter on Islay last week with my boys. Just cycled from Port Ellen to Port Charlotte and camped overnight. Islay is quite stunning and I have never seen such a huge and clear night sky. I may have to work out how to carry a telescope by bike too.

KennyS reacted to EricL in Covid update to follow
Since the last committee meeting I am pleased to report that we have received an expression of willingness from club member George Donnelly to act as a ride captain to lead some JWCC small-sized bunch rides, compliant with the current Scottish Cycling guidance.
As the ride captain/leader George will brief those that turn up to ride, take their names and telephone contact details then submit those by email (to me as Club Covid19 Co-ordinator) shortly after completing the ride. This is for a 'track & trace' register. Club rooms will remain closed.
A reminder to all members to view and read the Scottish Cycling Covid19 Guidance document ‘The Way Forward’ to help understand and take personal responsibility in adhering to the requirements contained therein. The basic bunch ride principles remain - max 15 persons from max 5 households, 2m distancing, washed hands, no sharing of bikes or accessories etc.
I expect that any organised rides will be posted on The Forum in the usual manner however as the numbers able to attend will be limited please confirm your attendance in advance to assist the ride captain in their planning.
Finally, further to Alan McLean’s message, posted above by Charlie, if there are any other volunteer ride captains willing to step forward and encourage smaller group club rides, Covid19 guidance compliant, then please do get in touch.

KennyS reacted to Darryl Gunson in ARRAN
Hi All
During Lockdown I’ve tried most of the various Apps - Tacxx, BigRingVR, RGT and Zwift. Only RGT allows uploading your own routes. But, for me it was a faff because you need 2 apps running and you need a subscription.
So, rather than trying to replicate Arran, why not choose a course on Zwift and have a target time/effort to complete it? For example it could be a group ride with a leader who has calculated that to meet the target we will, say, ride at 3w/kg to keep things in order. Happy to get into it in a couple of weeks. Certainly could be something to consider for the winter.

So here is the updated Hall of Fame - just waiting for more names to be added to the illustrious list.
I'm just thinking - 2021 will be the 10 year anniversary of the first SA - and also the 5 year anniversary of the first DA, so it would be fitting to get a load of new SA inductees next year and maybe even another DA if anyone was looking for a stretch target for next summer

Another very memorable Arran, in this case it was bigger than childbirth, bigger than wedding day, this was the mighty SA for my gal Laura. First female in Hall of Fame so pretty special one.
I reckon with Jan and Andy we've got the pacing down to a T, this was the smoothest SA I've done, no rush, no stress just an incredibly even paced ride, and thanks to the guys for a fantastic day out and their total commit to the team effort. If she didn't make it abundantly clear, Laura is truly made up and very grateful for this life experience.
The first hour in early morning was truly magical with very little wind and incredible views down to Ailsa Craig.
Roll on the next guided tour of Arran from your dedicated hosts Jan, Andy and me, would be a pleasure to get more inductees through the summer.

Another Single Arran in the bag and the first woman on the hall of fame. Well done Laura 😁
Less than ideal wind conditions with a strong crosswind for much of the west coast but the pacing was spot on and we made it to the ferry with time to spare.

KennyS reacted to Jannza in Arran (leisurely pace)
Alarm was set for 7am, set off at 8am. I was booked on the 09:40 ferry. Joined by another 9 or maybe 11 people and bikes.
Didn't have any breakfast, thought I would get a bacon roll and a coffee to take away in the wee cafe just beside the ferry in Brodick, it was shut!
Got off the ferry in Brodick at 10:50 and headed south. Lovely smooth tarmac in Brodick.
Carried on to next place, cafe shut! There was one opened in Whiting Bay but it was busy and couldn't be bothered waiting in the queue.
It was Lochranza? (Wee ferry) before there was anywhere open that sold hot food.
Quite enjoyed the big long climb and then the totally awesome decent after this 😁
Rolled along into Brodick for 4pm in time to catch the 16:45 ferry back
FYI you need to wear face covering in the ticket office and on ferry (in case anyone forgets)
There is quite a lot of very rough tarmac, particularly going through towns/villages.
There are no food or drinks available on ferry.

Planning an SA attempt this Saturday, departing 7am ferry and wondering if a 5th person wants to join the run - possibly a new candidate for the Hall of Fame or someone wanting to relive their finest hour As most will know the challenge is 2hours 45 mins at 20mph average on the coastal circuit which is 'lumpy' and 'interesting'.
Reason I say 5th person is with current guidelines any more would be inappropriate.
The normal return is 11.05am but we have booked the 12.30 in case we miss the boat and the later ones get fully booked. So far we have 4 tickets (you have to book the ferry in advance now), myself, Jan, Andy G and my daughter Laura. Plan is to start and finish as a team and I really appreciate Jan and Andy's support with the pacing strategy, ride at a pace fast enough to complete the challenge but not going for the segment type eyeballs out approach, and hopefully get Laura inducted as first female into the most Glorious Hall of Fame.

KennyS reacted to George in Strava Georgetown TT 30/06/2020
Hi all, following on from Mr Maclean’s post, I’ll take this on for next couple of weeks or until racing starts back.
First event, next Tuesday. Alan has suggested a 3 hour window. So let’s go for 6pm to 9pm? Or do you want an all day event?
For those that don’t know, the course starts just after house on left hand side at start of Georgetown Rd & continues to roundabout at Crosslee. Back in to finish a few yards before the start.
You will be riding by yourself with no timekeeper or pusher off. Please ride responsibly and if you bump into a club member please stay socially distant. If a rider catches you please don’t sit on their wheel.
As for collating results? Follow me on Strava & I’ll follow you back. Also, post your times here.
I may change the night, week to week, depending on weather. No fun in riding in rain & wind.
open to constructive suggestions 🤔

KennyS reacted to Kenny MacDonald in Interest free loan for E bike
Having worked in Western Isles promoting electric cars and E bikes I thought I would flag up the current 4 year interest free loans available for E bikes . although applications can be for non E bike on a case by case situation ie commuting to place of work . The new E bikes are stunning and the range is getting longer and longer , they are excellent for older riders and casual cyclists . They are coming more and more popular and appearing in lots of sportives nowadays

KennyS reacted to AlanT in Cycle Jumble Saturday 23rd November
Art'n'salvage in Dalry are holding a cycle jumble sale this Saturday from 10 am. If you're looking for a vintage steel frame or vintage parts, it's definitely worth getting along for a rummage.
