Saw Colin riding up the main rode from Greenock, note sure if he had sore legs or he was pulling away slowly from the traffic lights.

Another fun day at Millport it started with a nice run down to Largs with Paul and Davie B these guys were riding there second race of the weekend
As usual it was very windy and a small field left the start line into a head wind I hung about st the back first climb pace ok fas down and fast for a bit along the coast second climb sat near the front doing a fair bit of work on the decent got a wee break but it only lasted a few mins 3 time up was of the back a bit this went up to last climb two made a move didn't think they would stay away so wasn't botherd came back along the coast we were closing the gap but soon enough not all was working caught one of them then decided to go for first loser so sat in then sprinted before we could see the markers finished second with Al third
Then rule 5 and cycled home 91 miles of fun

well what a windy day, it stayed dry. this was my first tt outwith the club. i managed 13th overall and 2nd in my section. i won money, a first! I had a good run but as usual i made it to the start just in time, was pushed of not clipped in, blasted it first few yards to make up time , untill i realised my HR was 190.slowed up and made it round, nearly threw up at the finish.Looking forward to next one.

Paul,
Drove down Sun am and completed the 107 miles in 7h 28m pedalling time (would have been 3rd last year...still awaiting this years official times.)
Fantastic tour of the North Pennines and the descents almost made the climbs worthwhile.
Long time in the saddle, but great route, roads and weather. A seriously tough challenge for me with the 9 climbs. Not many flat sections!
The diet has started for the Lakeland Loop in Aug!
Cheers

No. This is NOT a confined event / race
It's a training run

Darryl Gunson reacted to Phil Malcolm in Interesting article on power
Vayer won't reveal his methods of calculation. He reckons he can estimate power to within 2% accuracy, but given the variables (bike weight, gradient, air pressure, wind speed, wind direction) this seems unlikely and as he won't show us his workings, how would we know? I doubt I could estimate most riders weight to within 2%.
In short, it's guess work.

An interlude: The (amateur) grimpeur’s manifesto
Climb. Lots.
The climb is your friend. It will teach you something.
The point of the journey is not to arrive. It is the experience.
That said, arriving at the top quicker will shorten the duration of the pain.
There are no shortcuts to climbing faster. Absolutely none.
Though shalt not covet another rider’s sub-1,300g climbing wheels.
Use the big ring at least once on every climb.
Lighten yourself before trying to lighten your bike.
We all dream of a 39×23 being our lowest gear and still being able to climb anything.
Race to train. Train to climb.
The only races worth really racing are hill climbs. You should bury yourself.
Race not to best other riders but to best yourself.
If you compete in crits or road races for training, you must attack on every climb. No exceptions. Getting shelled out the back may happen frequently, but at least you animated the race.
Do a ride with over 2,000 metres of climbing at least once a season.
Glory is fleeting. Pain can last for days, or even weeks and months.
There will always be someone faster.

Darryl Gunson reacted to Big Al in Summer Holiday Jaunt
Hi
Would anyone be interested in a little jaunt in roughly the last 2-3 weeks of July or first 2 in August? Was thinking maybe flying to Malaga or Barcelona then riding home via Calais Ferry. Could get a train at some point in England if we got bored.

Will try pics later, not quite clued up on this yet.
As for mechanicals today, well if JD had been there there would have been at least another 17!
On a less frivolous note, still miss him a lot and today was the best possible way to mark his anniversary.
