Guest
I e-mailed the organiser of this to see if I could get a start. Got a nice reply saying that I should just turn up on the day and take out a day licence. Is this right? How do they sort out the groups, etc? What if I get stuck in a group with people I don't like? 2023 Subscriptions Ramsay Posted July 30, 2012 2023 Subscriptions Report Share Posted July 30, 2012 George, It is TLI, not British Cycling, so you can just turn up. They will sort out groups on the day. Its a cracking course. In terms of liking people in your group, well...... R
DavieB
George, The APR is highly recommended as a good introduction to RR. Website with all the info as below: http://www.rothesayweekend.co.uk Would be good to see lots of blue and yellow supporting this event. As for the other, you do it most Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays so why single out Rothesay?
Guest
Just hope I don't get lumped in with any of that Johnstone. I hear they are a rough sort.
2023 Subscriptions P McDonald Posted July 30, 2012 2023 Subscriptions Report Share Posted July 30, 2012 George and anyone else considering this road race - answer is simple - do it. I normally get involved in the groupings so I will endeavour to ensure fairness* * if you are nice to me and buy me coffee at Largs

2023 Subscriptions charlie p Posted July 30, 2012 2023 Subscriptions Report Share Posted July 30, 2012 Cracking race last year and hope to be able to do it again this year. as for George he will no doubt be lurking behind me and mc bagel as per normal
Mark O
George, You must simply do this. Great course and no tougher than a fast Thursday. You can lurk in the bunch or go for glory. Cut my teeth on it last year. Fantastic day. Just don't follow McBagel's wheel - sense of direction extremely questionable. Hopefully we can have a decent Joansin presence in the various groups. Guest
Uh, earth to Charlie. This is what us cerebral types call tactics! You may well call it wheel sucking but lets not get drawn into semantics.
Alan Fox
Can you enter the novice race at the tender age of 45????
Guest EPCC
Yes but you will manage the APR
Paul C
I am slightly thinking about making my race debut at 61 (supervet?) in the novice race. For those who know me - could I manage it? Will confirm if there is sufficient peer pressure.
2023 Subscriptions charlie p Posted August 1, 2012 2023 Subscriptions Report Share Posted August 1, 2012 Paul you are doing yourself a disservice. enter the main apr race. no harder than the chain gangs and Sunday runs you have being doing. believe me you will love it. Guest EPCC
Dito You will get round sucking a wheel easy the climb is at the end on the way back so even if you had a moment going up it you would not loose much time
Mark O
Agree with Charlie and Billy. I was going to do the novice event last year but was talked out of it. Glad I was. To paraphrase Richard, he described those who did the novice race as people with pale legs who had been to halfords. I'm sure the full quote is still lurking on the forum somewhere. APR for you Paul. Well within your abilities if you are regularly turning up for the Thursday evening runs. M

Committee Alan McLean Posted August 5, 2012 Committee Report Share Posted August 5, 2012 Hi Over the past few years the organisers have welcomed riders of all abilities. Our own Paul did the handicapping last year and, if repeated, will ensure fair allocation according to skill/performance. There is a wide spread of abilities and participation is highly recommended, if only to see the speed of the scratch group as they power through. (But there is still a chance for the early groups to stay away if they work hard together.) Alan
