Good ride...skies opened up just before the Clune for a nice cool down and then a good bash up it with Ian and Marc

    yes
Incase anyone missed it (i posted last week on another thread) no intermediate sprint points anymore to keep things a bit tidier
To replace it is now points for top 4 on Clune (4,3,2,1) and the finish  (6,4,2,1).   Will see how that goes this week may amend in the future

Fair point - although i think it would be spread out more than usual for this bit because of the mechanical which caused a split. Probably not helped with the intermediate sprint too, some go for it whereas some dont which mean the bunch spreads out too....probably better to scrap that altogether (could make the clune and finish the top 4 riders that count instead).

    Just a note...
Wasn't out today with the JWCC chain-gang but did bump into bunch just before Houston roundabout - you guys looked tidy. I wasn't directly behind you and there was a car in front of me which seemed to be impatient, close to bunch and trying to overtake. Just after Houston roundabout the car decided to overtake, at that point speed was around 30mph so the car had to go over speed limit to overtake a long stretch of bicycles and it looked like it had to cut it close going back to lane to avoid another car coming in the other direction. Not defending driver but the risk could have possibly been reduced if it was a smaller bunch? So I'm directly behind the bunch now and did not feel comfertable overtaking until we reached the long stretch of houston road. So to safely overtake you could be stuck behind bunch for a bit. Some would be ok with this but you would definitely get impatient drivers that would take risks just to save a few seconds. We had a similar encounter last week when I was out before bishy lights.
I think splitting into groups of max 10 may be a good idea...

5 of us to start with this time . With most of the guys having heavy legs from yesterday's ride meant that 5 became 4 quickly, then 4 of us worked to largs and then for the final stretch it was me and Marc to finish off a solid ride.
Good fun thanks for the company guys.

Hmmm, that is a generous description Galeb ! I thought it was more like me and Richie hitched a ride on the Galeb/Mark TGV. We managed a couple of token spells before crawling into the Bagel basket where another contingent of JWCC arrived so we had 2 coffee stops
I have numerous PR's and top ten segments on my ride which confirms what I already knew , youse were flying.
Thanks for a thoroughly excellent kicking

Keep posting the rides Galeb. I’m targeting a 50 mile TT on 8 July so these rides would be great. But we are in the middle of the race season... no coffee stops on them.  (but races being Sundays  most, Saturdays are rest days). Renfrew Bunch on a Tuesday will get you a good tempo ride too. Otherwise we are all consigned to Zwift.

Another good training ride today with Marc. Full on 2-up TT mode from the start...we kept a fast pace to largs then onto the head wind where pace slowed down but we were still working hard and kept it going...no mucking around, no stopping and eating snacks on the go...just like Arran ...we managed to average just under 22mph.
Thanks for the company Marc. If we can get a couple more out would be  good...I dont mind solo rides - good charecter building, but its also good to have some wheels to chase sometimes makes you push that little bit harder that makes the difference.

Absolutely brilliant version of the Galston Transmitter this morning. Kudos to Jan who was on his 4th hard day in a row but still made it round. 5 of us did the run in truly awesome weather and a very pleasant amount of brand new tar down Ayrshire way.

Will try and join only to BoW though. Worked out that I might just make it in time before wife goes to Yoga. Can't have any punctures though otherwise I'm sacked!

Made it just in time...had to change plan slightly and after the clune decided I needed to keep going not sure how much time that saved but it did something as bunch didn't catch me. Might sneak in sometimes since I know I can just about make it in time without getting killed...just

Race report on this event, seeing as I'm still a paid up member and race in club colours.
Flat course, fairly light winds off the sea, warm and sunny.......getting warmer as the morning progressed. Usual friendly atmosphere and well organised.  First tri of the season for me and first since last summer's 70.3 effort. Target time around 2hrs 30 mins  based on my training efforts.
Swim was solid and pretty much as expected albeit marginally slower than pool times. Chalking that down to it being my first open water swim of the year. Not much of a scrum in the water which was good . I didn't feel i got into a good rythmn but a 26.26 swim was ok and was well placed in age group.
T1 was a disaster time wise. Wet suit refused to come off. Room to improve here and gain back 2 mins lost.
Bike stage was good. There and back again course. Bit of a head wind but not overly so. 1:08:13 . Could have gone harder but know the run is comparatively my weakest event and I need to judge my effort to avoid blowing. Got off bike feeling reasonably fresh and had made up ground on those who passed me in T1.
T2 - better than T1, could get smoother but generally happy with this.
Run - hot kind of covers it. Been regularly doing 45 min 10ks when fresh so anything close to this would be pleasing. Did 48:17.  Slightly slower than I hoped for but the heat doesn' t agree with me. No cramp on the run, which is a first but the last 2k seemed to take an age.
After entering this event I realised it was the English championship. Accordingly there were some proper athletes racing. The winning time was around 1:58:38. My age group winner posted 2:02:25. I was breathing down his neck at 2:28:53. That put me in 20th for my age group and 146th overall in a field of 400. Hard to tell the quality of a field but I reckon a gave a reasonable showing. Pleased with a 12 minute improvement on my last standard tri and beating my target time.
Looking at my splits I'm giving away easily 8 mins to my nearest time placing rivals on the run - 14 places. T1 cost me a couple of mins and 10 places.
Lessons - get wet suit legs trimmed and practice wriggling out of it more. No doubt there are a few minutes to be gained in the swim and on the bike. Incidentally, I had gained 25 places over the 25miles. Hydration still not perfect and need to work on this. However to really move up the placings a 40-45min 10k has to be the targeted improvement between now and Allerthrope in August.  My target was to get close to 2:30 . Target achieved. New target now set at 2:20

A thoroughly splendid day out. The bunch was compacto, and rode tempo. The route was tranquilo and the weather was so so. The cafe at Strachur has achieved something I thought barely possible - it is worse than it used to be!
A well-earned  Moreti at Amaretto was the reward  for some of the bunch and a much needed lie down watching the Giro for me.
Longest ride for ages was very enjoyable with a good pace. I hope it does me good.
    Thanks for the wheels.

Mark I was more talking of coming through from behind as last rider. Because of group being large with riders having varried fitness splits tend to happen in the fast lane and with some riders sitting in you don't actually know when it's your turn to come through without having to check your shoulder frequantly.  Ideally you would shout out 'last' for the last rider in the slow lane when you are the last rider coming through to fast lane. But with not knowing who will be getting back onto the chain from riders that are sitting in you can't really do that.
APR good idea...but think it might be a bit difficult at the start to split into groups relative to fitness. 6.30 comes and people want to set off...
Generally as some have already said, up to the Clune seems to be ok, so I think Billy's suggestion might work best. One group to Clune and then after that split into two groups with the faster one going first.

    Agree.
On the other hand it's hard when it's a big group with riders that have different fitness levels to keep a consistent chain moving. You end up looking over your shoulder quite a bit to make sure you don't step into someone's line. Not ideal as you also need to keep an eye on your front wheel, potholes, cars etc.
