Thanks to all today for the company and to Paul for taking us back the coast route. There is nothing to beat the views over the Firth of Clyde on a sunny day. Well done to Morna for sticking with it as her first run out with the Joansin for a while. More of same for next week please. Dave

What happened to you Ian. We waited until 09:04!
Excellent run today in lovely sunshine.
Bunch of seven - Morna, Mia, Carol, Dave, TT Alan, Anthony and me.
Lovely café stop at Eglington Park - the scones were enormous and filled with cream and jam!
Chapeau to the '30 Milers' who did more than 50 miles!
I think Mia would have been nearer to 70 miles by the time she got back to Kilmacolm?
This is why I love cycling - just one big happy family!!

What a lovely day for a run (with a bunch of 8) after a chilly start! Got a bit warm so had to unzip my jacket couple of inches at the end!.
Left the bunch at the dairy and soloed back to LW via Kilmaurs, Crosshouse and Kilwinning.
Excellent day out and a good old natter in the tearoom. The chocolate cake was lovely.

I think we have exhausted the cheese jokes!!!

    I'll be there.
After the cafe stop will peel off and do a few extra miles at a medium pace.
Any Intermediates want to do that?

Thought that as a retired HM Customs & Excise officer, entering a Smugglers Sportive was appropriate. .............................

I've entered the Drumlanrig sportive 29/04/2017, 57 miles.
Looks as if the JWCC have a number of entrants for th the longer distance, but 57 mls is far enough for me!
    See you all there 😊

Weather looking dry this weekend so planning to head to Dairy for coffee stop and cheese jokes.

Route : along track to Kilburnie, Glengarnock, Highfield, Auchentiber, Bloak Road to Dairy.
Steady 30 miler pace and regroup at hills. Suitable for newbies and oldies.

Can we meet at clubrooms at 9:15am and remember clocks go forward to BST.

I should be out on Saturday 25th and 1 April. So that clearly suits me, as I am interested in how I shall fare in the TT points and missing one less must help.

For anyone unsure if the confined events are for them come along to a few this season and realise how good you are.

People, thanks to a general lack of interest, this event is postponed until next weekend. This will knock next weekends event into the following week, with the first of the chocolate series taking place on the intermediate Tuesday. The relevant dates are now:
    Hilly 1, 25th March,
    Chocolate series 1, 28th March
    Hilly 2, 1st April,
    Chocolate 2, 4th April.

That brings us back on track again.

On the upside, there's some good training in there

    Guys
Massive thanks for your kind messages and to those of u who visited me in hospital. Don't think I was great company but your kindness and support really touched me especially at a time when I was feeling quite melancholic. Not got much recollection of crash. Remember a young fella nearly taking me out about 3 laps earlier then remember being in 3 rd last lap as had made decision to go for sprint with 2 to go. Unfortunately crashed on bend of 3rd last lap.Had no idea what caused crash. Remember guy telling me I had been out cold for 90 secs. In ambulance another rider involved in crash told me that he and another fella touched wheels and came down. I presume they took me down but if any one heard anything different please let me know. Also are the other riders ok.
I sustained a left neck femur fracture left rib fractures a head injury and a few bruises. The consultant told me that femur op went well but unfortunately chest X Ray today
Showed a very small left pleural effusion so my recovery may be longer than I first thought.
This has been my 3rd serious bike crash in as many years so time for me to pause & reflect. My wife is already trying to invoke 3 strikes and you are out rule. I have already conceded track cycling but jury still out for the road but as Prof Gunson recovered from a far more serious crash than mine feel it would be rude not to keep him company for the first part of a run at least.
Once again many thanks for your remarkable support
    Charlie

Ian Holms reacted to AlanT in 2017 Provisional Calendar
I have attached a Provisional calendar for confined events for the upcoming season. The list includes a few open events with tentative dates shown.

There is a challenge associated with the David Raymond Trophy (2 up championship), where there has been a couple of requests to move it to a Tuesday night from it's current place on a Sunday.
The only way to accommodate that is to drop another event, either one of the chocolate series, one of the hill climbs, or one of the 'practice' runs.
    The options are therefore:
    1. Leave it on a Sunday
    2. Drop a Chocolate series race (27th August would be favourite)
    3. Drop a practice run (15th August)
    4. Drop a hill climb (5th September)

Can I have some sensible responses please.

If we drop a race, then the TT league gets adjusted accordingly.

Please note that all the dates are provisional at this stage.

My only option this weekend is a 3'ish hour window between 9 and 12.30 at the very latest on Saturday... weather forecast is good, company welcome... Haven't thought of a route yet... planning to leave Bishopton at 9am..

Ian Holms reacted to AlanT in Confined event Time Trial League
The club currently runs a number of confined event time trials across the spring and summer months. Some of these are handicapped events, meaning that it's not always the fastest rider that wins the award at the end of the season. Discussion after the Georgetown Cup open event indicated that there was some demand for a structured TT competition within the club. This proposal therefore outlines a Confined TT league that will reward the consistently fastest riders, and, hopefully, increase rider participation in the confined events. It should be noted that the existing awards will be completely unchanged. This will be an addition to what is already there, and in my view, will be experimental to gauge participation levels. There will be no actual physical prize at the end of the season, only the kudos of knowing that you are the most consistently fast male/female rider in Johnstone Wheelers.
    The proposal is this:
The TT league shall consist of
1 restricted gear TT over 10 miles.
3 hilly TT each over 10 miles.
10 Chocolate series, each over 7.2 miles
8 league of 10 (including the Frank Lauder 10) each over 10 miles.
2 25 miles(run as part of the CTT events)
    4 2up TT, each over 7.2 miles.

Points are awarded for the first 5 finishers on the basis of the distance raced, i.e. 7, 5, 4, 3, 2, for a 7.2 mile race, 10, 8, 7, 6, 5 for a 10 and 25, 23, 22, 21, 20 for a 25 mile race. 2 up points are awarded to each rider in the team on the same basis. 1 point is awarded for finishing. 2 points are awarded for timekeeping/holding/marshalling. 5 points are awarded for a PB on the course.
Crucially, points will be deducted for NOT helping, if a rider has taken part in more than 30% of races, based on the number of races undertaken, I.e. If a rider has taken part in 15 races, but has not done the helping out bit, they would lose 15 points when the points are added up at the end of the season.
The league will be open to male and female members, but not Jets(at least, not for this year). Jets will still be able to compete for the current awards.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is a proposal for discussion. It is not a 'done deal'. If there is no support for it, it will go away. If there are differing opinions on any aspect of this proposal, post them up. We can have the discussion and then put a proposal forward to the committee.

Your thoughts and responses are welcome.

    Alan
