GrahamF reacted to Alan McLean in JWCC in Cycling Weekly article
Here it is. Can a mod please pin? Well done George. Congrats to all the handsome riders in the photos and to Paul McD for announcing the Double Arran challenge to the world.
Many thanks to Steve Prentice, MD at Cycling Weekly, for giving permission for us to reproduce this on the site. Some subscriptions might be in order!

GrahamF reacted to AlanT in Confined event Time Trial League
Seems a reasonable suggestion. How about 2, 3 and 5 points for helping on a 7, 10 and 25 respectively? That narrows the differential a bit and to an extent reflects the sheer boredom of hanging about for longer.

Thanks for the feedback guys, there's some really positive stuff in there.
To answer a couple of points. I understand and sympathise about the 25's. I'm likely to be in the same situation as I expect them to lie between the West Lothian Clarion 25 and the Scottish National 25, in which case I'm unlikely to do either of the CTT ones. I did consider not including them as they are technically open events, but we want to encourage greater participation. I guess the hard answer is 'be consoled with the points for helping out'.
I'm not sure how taking the best 12 ( or any other number) results would work, but I'm open to more discussion. I can see a certain amount of tactical racing being adopted with that. I accept that not everyone will be able to do all the events with work, family and holiday commitments (or injury). That will mean that people will miss races, and therefore points. Which adds to the excitement, and could build to a grandstand finish.
The thinking behind the distance based points is to encourage more participation in the longer (more demanding) races. With that in mind, is there a different points structure that would be preferred?

A lovely run. Rain stayed away.
Nice cafe stop at the dairy where we 6 had the place to ourselves!
I need to do more club runs - much more enjoyable than solo stuff.

GrahamF reacted to EricL in Strava Administrator???
Dear Strava Admin
An observation - We appear to have a new entrant under JWCC (AlexanderM) who has effectively blocked out activity for the past two days with hundreds of entries, and appearing as #1 on the leader board!
Can such an entrant be deleted if there is no obvious connection? Maybe I'm wrong and this guy is everyone's mate and we'll see him out on the next bunch run! If so please accept my apologies.

I can help on Sunday, between about 9 and 2:30, looks like it may be a bit frosty so it would be good to be doing something indoors.

Graham,
I think Sunday is the 27th..........
I'll plan on being at the club for 09:30, but not sure about keeping up - though I should be able to get to the cafe before you have finished there.

GrahamF reacted to carol cowan in Sunday 30th Oct Tour of Renfrewshire & Iverclyde
Good turnout today for a run punctuated by punctures and cattle hold ups. A thorn in the front wheel was followed later by a thorn in the rear wheel.Just needed a chain snap to complete the set, but managed to get home without further mishap. Thanks for waiting at the cafe stop guys and girls and well done to Ernie and John on their first bunch run.It is not always like this. Met Graham and Jane for a chat also.

GrahamF reacted to chung in Bike Maintainence Workshop - Wednesday 26th October 7pm
Thanks to everyone for a very entertaining evening indeed, it was good to see folks getting "hands-on" with their bikes!
I too picked up a few tips from others during last nights session :-)
I hope this will at least give people some confidence in working around their bikes, & lets all help to eradicate dodgey mud-guards situation :-)
P.S - Just want to illiterate the importance on fitting a "chain catcher" to your bike frames (as stressed to David & Eric last night) it's a simple/cheap device but essential to prevent the chain jamming between your frame & chainrings ........... ask Paul Leavy :-)
Till the next time then ................
Cheers

GrahamF reacted to chung in Loch Eck - Drum up - 23rd October
Yet another smashing Drum-up yesterday - organised & big thanks to Geoff & Linda Smith & Iain Lochrane!
An early start for me & meeting a few Wheelers along the way to Gourock, Campbell had a wee puncture just coming into Port Glasgow, but it did not delay our arrival for the ferry. A big contingence of cyclist & especially the Wheelers boarded the ferry crossing, the sun on the Clyde is always a great view & lifts your spirits!
The Ardentinny bound ones went up the climb to work up their appetite for the food to follow, well done to Jaki & Mia for their first (I think) ascent of this steep climb, chapeau indeed, especially to Jaki for her first outing on clipless pedals too (she managed to stay rubber side down all day, welcome to the world of funny cleat shoes)
The sight of an open fire as we dropped onto the shores of Loch Eck made the effort/suffering earlier worthwhile. It was great to see the 9.30 bunch as they got to the spot much earlier & helping out in building the fire & managing a few rounds of sausages before heading back for the footie :-)
This is my 3rd edition of Geoff & Iain's Drum up, I have to say it is the most varied in terms of food on offer - sausages (be it most of it burnt), rolls, crepes, mash-mallow, coffee, tea, whisky & RED WINE etc as well as among the favourites - tin soups & bread ............ it's certainly getting very serious indeed
Thank you to Gerard for his endless supplies of food & my fellow cyclist for the company & wheels yesterday!
I even managed a further coffee & cake back in Glasgow Westend before I rode home aided with a slight tail wind (which is rare) to make my 157km day another smashing & memorable one indeed!
Good to see Bill T, Iain & Mary Cowden who came along later too.
Same again next year please!
Cheers

GrahamF reacted to chung in Bike Maintainence Workshop - Wednesday 26th October 7pm
Hi All Wheelers,
I've spoken to a few members & thought it might be a good idea to hold one of these " Bike maintainence workshop" again just before the winter period sets in to make sure the bike you ride is suitably set up for the demands of our cold weather.
It'll be similiar to the "master classes" that Paul Leavy organised from last year, except I think this could be a bit more "hands on" approach.
Sandra have kindly allow her Wednesday turbo session on the evening to be postponed & instead we'll have this workshop to hopefully assist with members on the finer arts in getting your bike "winter ready" :-)
Sandra have also allowed her bike to be the guinea pig on the night, as we will be going about fitting mudguards onto her bike. (which can be a bit tricky & time consuming)
If you have any questions/problems with your bike, you can bring it along & we'll see if we can have a look & treat it as a workshop discussion session.
I was also told that there'll be cakes & stuff available on the night
So, workshop time is:
Wednesday 26th October
the clubroom, starting at 7pm sharp
Anyone looking for a good few hours of constructive bike fondling, then this is it :-) all welcome along & see you there then.
Cheers
Chung
