  5. Well done all sounds like gr8 fun must see if I can procure a cross bike from somewhere
  6. You don't need a smart turbo for zwift - either an ant + power meter or a garmin speed / cadence sensor so that it can work out your virtual power. You also need an ant + dongle so that the laptop receives the signal form your power meter / speed / cadence sensor and preferrably an extension usb cable as dropouts can occur when not in range of the dongle. Zwift does not use the power reading from your trainer so a very basic turbo can get you going !
  7. Monday and Tuesdays commute may be able to make some Wednesdays for the worlds but more likely weights. Thursday rest day Friday turbo sat winter bogs Sunday weights.
  8. Good fun on the bike today. Good to see some new members out
  9. Group 2 was very pedestrian and apart from a couple of nightingales and John from Paisley Velo there was very little sharing of work after the Mount Stuart drag. Took a bit of responsibility for livening things up a bit (not a lot though) but no one was interested. Kept trying to get back markers to come through but no interest. However we were managing somehow to stay away. Upon reaching the top of the Mount Stuart climb on the way back it was still only about 4 of us working but on the run in suddenly there was about 5 or 6 guys who I'd not seen all day coming through. A couple of youngsters opened up a bit of a gap which was brought back but on the third effort I could not quite get past and took about 5th place.

Some clubs have already organised group rides on it but I think that's taking things a bit far it could mean us all becoming cyber robots - not good

I find it more useful than going out on the bike when the weather is atrocious which would mean more time cleaning than riding if I only have an hour. I initially found it a pain to set up but have now got used to the set up. TO get the best out of it there is a lot of learning. In that respect it is not as easy to use as a sufferfest which you do not want if like me you are time pressed. Regarding Billy's point the power output file is flatter than the file recorded for a mass start road race i.e. more like a time trial type effort as the slope on most turbos does not allow for the type of accelerations required in bunch racing. In my opinion this is very hard to replicate on an indoor trainer even with sufferfest videos unless that is you happen to be in the enviable position to afford an uber turbo worth 1000 or more. However a lot of the group rides incorporate sprint efforts and intervals which allow for adaptation to this type of effort. Also in terms of specificity - I find it great in terms of helping with positioning in a bunch / preparing for obstacles (corners start of climbs etc.) I also like the fact that you have instant feedback on your normalized power output and effort level (in comparison with riders from all over the world) so that aspect is very useful. Downside is that they haven't found a way to ensure that riders are not lying about their weight ! as when using ant + it works on the power to weight ratios for riders so if you have a higher absolute power output (unlike me) you will be faster on the flat. 12. Paul as Jan says you get a thingy which plugs into the plug socket in the wall to extend your wireless range it connects via an Ethernet cable to your laptop. You don't download courses to swift although this would b a great development there are three courses which alternate watopia Richmond and London. A downloadable app I the I pad or I phone alliows you to view upcoming group rides and races just real eased for I pad
  13. Well done Iain pity my early season appearances were so limited. I think a iot of guys have improved due to the worlds !

  15. I think the winter kit ordering window has closed but if you contact Jane F she might have a few spares.
