The schools are back, summer holidays are too long. Cycling over from Erskine and meeting James at Lochwinnoch at 0945h at the cafe in front of the loch. Steady ride over to Stewarton and back down the dams, cafe stop at some point. Post up if coming along.

    Me and a Junior.

Completely different course this time over grassy dunes with little shelter from wind. Featuring the happy valley roller coaster, the endless skyline push-up and the hardest 200m of riding in scotland along the world famous sand trench. I will be running about, ooh, 4psi.

This is probably the least technical course on the circuit, fast and smooth, and highly recommended. It is our local course so either get a start or ride down to gloat.

    See you there.

Gonna be bigger than Fawkirk but colder.

Gooey grass, bombholey exit, red cinder hill, sweet singletrack, gravel arena and the lung smashing run up to the bridge, this course has it all.
Again this is well within reach of the bunch and makes great spectating esp from the bridge.

(Also probably the worst catering van on the circuit, they usually sell unidentifiable fried food to the undiscriminating punters at the amusement park. No falafel or couscous here.)

Getting properly beaten now the full BC season is on but loving it. See you there.

Well that was fun, First two laps wheelers 1-2. Got the Hole Shot (Davie B )    and Alan right behind pushing me on at one point we had a gap to the field but we were both well in the red. At one point I looked at Alan an thought what the **** are we doing leading out this race  Well done to the Jets! Nice day out and my Curry paid for

Wow, summer was still in Balloch today with hot sunshine in a beautiful country park setting. Stakes and tape really set off these venues and a good PA system with His High Crossness Jammie Johnston giving a commentary to round it all off. Crippling lack of ambition and increasing age meant I was in the B race.

Paul monstered the mass start and he led me into the first corner for a JWCC 1+2 ahead of the pack. Paul strung out the big field along the first fast straight and tempted me to slingshot past him and we led for the first couple of laps. It is always good to miss the inevitable jams mid-pack. I was red-lining and was passed by the eventual winner but Paul held on for a very strong second place with me in third about forty seconds behind.

Lewis Overend, Jets, was first Junior in B race. There was an A race but we won't go there.

Looking forward to Bute next weekend. As usual I can recommend the cyclocross scene highly for accessibility and informality. All ages and abilities welcome.

A Flat fast grassy course in a beautiful setting, 2 races A & B... I have stuck myself down for B race as I saw a good few people who pumped me last year have opted for the B plus i'm yella. Hopefully there will be a few more Wheelers along this year, we could even cycle down??

After a couple of good TLI events I got found out in a big BC event and finished mid-pack. I entertained the Jets by locking up the rear wheel on a hairpin and kissing the grass.

But the venue, weather and ambience were spectacular. The Park was rammed with riders and spectators from 5 upwards. The Jets coaches swooned at the amount of tape and stakes. What a great advert for Scottish cyclocross. The course was very fast and even dusty. No mud on kit or skin at the finish, wanted my money back. The only disappointment was a relative shortage of younger racers from Jets and main club (ie U40) but Alan McB was there checking us out and I wonder if Santa might bring him a cx bike a little early.

Big kudos to Billie and Paul for finishing after rolling a tub and a mechanical respectively. Also to Martin and Duncan for setting up the Easy-up to provide a club base and to Norma Millar for coffee and cake in support. Big slagging also for Billie for using double-sided sellotape to fix his tubs on.

Come on board folks but as we move into winter we can only offer you sweat, rain and mud.

Dull technical point: My front QR lever was pointing forward, as I tell the Jets NOT to do, and sure enough it was loosened in a clash of wheels at a hairpin. I had to stop and retighten. So I highly recommend that QR levers point backwards.

Start at 18:30, so meet a few minutes before.

As usual two helpers to timekeep and hold-up will be appreciated.

The route is on this link for anyone who has not done it before: JWCC Hill Climb Route

Lights are recommended, particularly if planning to cycle home.

Right, I've been off the bike for nearly 5 weeks (2 of which I was on hols to be fair), so I'm guessing I'm incredibly un'bunch'fit. However, I'm intending riding the winter bogs bunch this year - 'cos it suits me time wise.  I am in need of motivation and some serious physical endeavour on my part to get myself back in the groove in order to ride at least as far as Largs at a decent pace before Paul McD starts posting for the winter bogs rides.

To this end I'm aiming to get out and put some miles in on Saturday mornings to build miles initially and then some pace. Any takers for steady miles, with some intervals/hills as deemed necessary, on the usual autumn/winter routes of a Saturday morning (coffee stops optional). No apologies for me being a little short on endurance and pace being tendered at this time. These will not be killer rides to start with. Happy to meet at Miller Street or anywhere east thereof.

    Thanks for responding earlier Alex.
Hi Alison, the next taster session is planned for Wednesday 24th August. Depending on who is turning up we try and plan a route to suit the ability by enquiring about your average distance and speed per run. Last year's taster sessions did include complete beginner road cyclists (like me).
If you email me when you come back your holidays we can chat then and see what's coming up in the way of Wednesday runs.
The email address is [email protected]
    Best regards,

Johnstone Wheelers Cycling Club and Johnstone Jets Youth Cycling are delighted to announce our support for Paisley’s Bid to become UK City of Culture 2021

Our 2016 kit will proudly display the Paisley2021 logo

The Johnstone Wheelers Cycling Club has been at the hub of cycling in Renfrewshire since our founding in 1926. The club is celebrating our 90th Anniversary this year with a number of events planned for past, present and new members

The Johnstone Jets, youth section of the Johnstone Wheelers, is one of the largest youth cycle clubs in Scotland and carries British Cycling Go-Ride and Clubmark accreditation. Catering for youngsters between the ages of 5 and 17, the Jets have an active club calendar with coached activities at Linwood every Saturday morning and road-race training on Thursday evenings. The jets also organise a number of youth races throughout the summer

With the club carrying such a positive profile, not only in Renfrewshire but across Scotland and the UK, we see this as an ideal opportunity to reciprocate the support that we have received from the Council and the people of Renfrewshire over the years. Our members represent the club all over the UK at a variety of events and, if we can help get the message out, then we’re proud to do so
