    I hope to ride, too.
This will be the first Frank Lauder for a long, long time without Mike Ferguson on the start sheet.

Seriously impressive result - particularly for a sprinter! Well done

Great day out. Found anti clockwise harder than clockwise. Probably says more about my weight and lack of fitness though.
Going up the Ross afterwards was supremely tough. Blew up at the bottom and started cramping half way up - it took me over 30 minutes for the climb at an average cadence of 38 rpm

Utterly brilliant day on Arran and 3 new members of the SA Hall of Fame. Fantastic, and many congrats to SA Rookies Sam McGrath, Colin Sales and Alan Hendry, who were joined by seasoned SA vets Jan McTavish, Mark Kelly, Andy Gumley and myself. So 7 started as a team and 7 finished as a team. Also took all the rankings from 2nd to 6th or something on the Strava segment.
This was a rarer anti clockwise assault due to the predicted wind, however there was near zero wind all day. Very smooth paceline with much encouragement in evidence. Lots of resurfaced roads helped and I reckon this could be a year for records. Still some pretty grisly bits mind you.
Weather was probably the best I have ever seen on Arran and I have been there a lot! Truly heaven on earth.
So now you have a taste guys, set your sights on the Grand Daddy of them all - the DA in August. As I may have said somewhere before, this is a monumental and life changing experience that you will regale your grandchildren with, you will have it engraved on your gravestone, you will forever remember the single biggest day of your life. You will feel immortal.
To round it all off me and Jan rode over the Ross to meet my two girls at the Velo café, then clung on to their wheels to get back for the 1.55pm ferry as we were both tank empty status. 86 miles and 2,000m of ascent made for a fantastic day out.

Buy decent tools ..something like Bahco  Allen keys and Torx heads.  Do not buy a set of torx keys, buy the one or two sizes you need in the form of torx screwdrivers they ensure you apply a direct torque force to prevent rounding off the bolt. Cheap tools are false economy.
Remove all dome headed allen bolts and consign them to the bin, replace with decent bolts, they are far less likely to end up stuck in your £1000 frame.

Mixed night for Wheelers tonight - Sam was looking strong but had a crash, looked a sore one. Managed to dust himself off and do another race afterwards (including a big solo attack from the gun)  so chapeau. Cedric doing well in the A’s with victory in the points race and placing top 5 in the others too. As for me not been feeling great but had stopped coughing so thought  i may as well give it a go. Didnt do much apart from follow in the first 3 races but in the last race had started to feel a bit better and managed a 3rd in the devil which is my first points of the season. Just pleased i wont now be finishing on zero!

    Hi
Some of the local climbs have been totally bossed by Quick Step etc on Strava. I am looking at The Full Carruthmuir aka. Phil's Folly and I've seen others.
can I suggest that during the winter gales (we'll need storm force tailwinds ) we make club efforts to get one of these back.
I would like to imagine Wout van Aert or GVA receiving the "Uh oh, Galeb/Paul/Ian has just taken your KOM etc..." message. (I would also like to think they might just pop back to regain their Kom). Perhaps they weren't really trying but I think they were.
I will volunteer to lead out for, oooh, first 20 seconds.
Anyone got a list of likely segments?
    Alan

Ladies and gentlemen, the final confined event of the season, the Joe Brunetti Hill Climb championship. This is a whole club event, with the Elliston Castle Road being closed for the duration of the event, so a good turnout is appreciated.
In recent years the main club has gone off first, then stayed around afterwards to cheer on the Jets, and this year should be no exception. Following the event, riders can go off on runs to suit their ability and leg conditions.
First rider off at 10:30, registration from 10:00
Please note that I have a copy of the Road Closure notice, which I will be putting up on site in the coming week.

I've been away for a number of years now and thinking of joining again for 2019.
When are fees due? and do the club hold stock of kit/ is there an order going in anytime soon?

    Cheers

Anyway congratulations to Richard finishing on the podium in 3rd overall, behind only Douglas Watson and Alexander Macrae. Great effort!

I never see these places cos I am usually hanging on like grim death to Paul McDonald's wheel hoping for an excuse to stop. I thought Arran was a strip of tarmac one metre wide, 56 miles long,  with a 25mm Gatorskin in the middle of it.

6 hardy souls went out this morning - Charlie, Colin, Glen, Iain Ginty, James & myself set off this wet damp morning looking for the elusive sun & to do a bit of cycling :-)
Never made it as far as Aberfoyle, instead turned right at Gartmore & headed for Buchclyvie, then Balfron for the assault on the Crow (for me, 2nd time in 4 days :-0)
A very much needed cafe stop at Clachan of Campsies, then made our way to Gt. George st. in the Westend to catch some proper racing. Dr. McLean joined us at Mugdock after his morning shift, perfect timing!
Enjoyed a few laps of the pros, the wonderful folks on the street was handing out tea/coffee to the spectators, class act from the locals - warm the hands & heart on a fairly miserable day. But it did dried up in the end!
Thanks for the wheels & company again today & liking the traditional Scottish weather once again, which I guess the Pro's must enjoyed as well :-)
    Cheers
    Chung
