Another big day, with brilliant weather to match, long ups and fast downs, with 100 miles done, 2,000m+ climbs and two cafe stops!

Cheers, Chung, Paul, Richie, David & Darryl.

Epic day out. 101 miles for me. Tough route though: pipe track; dukes pass; braes of Greenock; top of the world; crow road; mug dock; cote de Erskine Bridge

Lovely day for it until about the 60 mile mark where my legs imploded and any rise in the road felt like a mountain.
Unfortunately we still had the Crow Road to do!
Time was marching on so had to bail at Clydebank and get a taxi to Alex's so I could get home on time!!
Cheers for waiting and the wheels chaps

Sorry to disappoint you Alex, but it's not quite ready yet  .......... so afraid I'll still be on my winter bike. No pressure then!

It'll be good to sit on your wheel all day though, just come on out anyway ............ it'll be a good day for it!

    Cheers

Thanks Chung (huge effort at 183km) and all fellow riders for a long day out around lochs and glens. Certainly pushed me to the limit at times and glad to be hanging on at the back. Lots of new carbon on show as the weather improves (bike envy started already)!

The café stop may have been long but I didn't hear a complaint, given the effects of good steady pace on the lochside rollercoaster to Arrochar and then a climb up the old military road.

Finally headed home up the clune brae rather than west ferry route, gave me less km in distance but a sting in the tail with more metres gained!

    Tired satisfaction felt last night.

    Hello There,

A few of us "Vlaanderen" bound Wheelers who were desperate for some km made a late arrangement to do a longish run yesterday.

Seven of us - Alex B, David C, Eric, Iain McGinty, PaulL, Ritchie & myself all met at the bridge for an early 9am start, doing the Dunnon run via Dumbarton, Helensburgh, Whistlefield, Arrachor, The Rest (old valley road), then Struchur (loooooong cafe stop) Dunoon ferry, then back on dry land for a slog back home via the Westferry.

We couldn't have picked a better day in terms of picture perfect scenery especially round the loch sides were just stunning - still water with perfect reflection of the landscape, our photographer in residence - David Bailey AKA Alex Baird took some brilliant snaps along the way, hope he has time to show it. Alex, please don't just show the ones with you bike, by the way :-)

We worked as a group very nicely, keeping everyone together until I struggled big time just before Dunoon (I think it was the pork & teritzo burger & chips that I had) but thanks to the others, I kind of made it to port just in time to miss the ferry Never a great feeling when you're on your knees.

Back on the mainland, pretty much the same for me, sucking on wheels unashamedly just to survive my toll back to Bishopton where upon I departed with the troops to head home solo. Thanks again for the wheels chaps, very much appreciated!
Got home eventually with 183km (112 miles in old money) on my Garmin and totally konked, still 70km shy of Vlaanderens distance, oh dear ..................

Anyway, lovely run despite my situation & apologies to Billy earlier on in the morning when we past just outside Paisley, I didn't clock it was you until we past. I assume you were on your way to the Velodrome?

    I need more km ..............

    Cheers

Really enjoyed that run in the sun for my first ride as a 'wheeler', great conditions and good company.
Our compact group of 6/7 riders kept a steady pace yet still found enough time for a coffee and scone in Largs!
Thanks to the organisers and fellow riders for the day.

    Great day out.
I was still putting my gloves on when everyone left so our wee group of 6 stuck together. Got caught at a junction so we never saw the bunch again. We expected to pick up some stragglers but everyone must've been going well.
Stopped at the BB as it would've been rude not to!
I'm sure I could've gone faster if I had had more to drink from my other bottle

At least my near 80 miles is more than I've done recently.

Thanks for the wheels and to all the helpers at Lochwinnoch:)

As a first timer out with JWCC and a fairly novice cyclist I really enjoyed the run this morning, pace and distance slightly higher than I'm used to but that's what I need under my belt to see an improvement. Big thanks to the bunch today for your encouragement, and understanding that there was a 'newbie' on board!

Blue skies, stunning views to Arran, no wind and cake at the end! Can't get much better than that.

Hope to catch up with you again soon.

    Cheers,
    Eric

No road miles since early December really had me knackered today. Felt like pedalling through treacle. Was only when cleaning the bike I realised that the back brake was jammed against the wheel! No..........really..........it was!!!!!!!! New calipers badly fitted (by me). No wonder my legs are gubbed.

Good to see a good turnout and well done to Eric for bringing the sun with him on his first club run. The new lucky charm?

It's amazing what a little bit of sunshine does to swell the numbers in a bunch :-)

I counted 11 head out this morning with one whole bunch doing the intended route - Alex, David C, Eric (new chap) Graham, Gerard, James, PaulC, Paul Levy, Ritchie, Tom (on his new bike - class) & myself headed off 9.15am.

Like a true reliability run, we had to have a few mishaps - a couple of mechanical, a puncture, someone riding onto a grass verge, dropped lights (that was me by the way) & mangkie mudguards. However, that did not spoil the fun at all, unbroken sunshine, no real wind to speak of & a good size bunch was a what makes a great wee run indeed.

We picked up Len on the way into Largs, then some opted to have a coffee stop at Largs (the evening trackies) while the rest of us carried onto round the coast to fulfil the West Kilbride route, but a wrong turn at Dalry meant we skipped a bit out .... oops :-)

Anyway, manage to rejoin the café bunch while back on the cycle track heading home & made our way back to the clubroom for some hot beverage & Gerard's lovely tart :-)

Thanks for wheels today guys & looking forward to next weeks Don Smith then :-)

    Cheers

    Chung
