As long as I do not think about the last 50m I know I can persuade myself to come along.

A couple of photos from the first day of this years Rothesay weekend: Karen G. starting out on the hill climb, and Team Archibald in full flight on the 2-up TT.

All self timed tonight. 2:28-ish for me, which is ok, considering.
I forgot how much that hurts.

A great day out on a great island with some great members of  great cycle club.  A bit of a slog back to the car against the wind and then I took Beth back to Partick, getting home over two hours later than expected.  Beth is looking to get out more often so it looks like the Serpentine did not put her off.

Well, that was a fabulous but tough run for me, due to my lack of miles recently, I was struggling big time :-/ despite that though I still had a great time.

Thanks to Big Al, Billy, Charlie & Paul for letting me sit on their wheels all day long :-) and the great company too of course.
The C11 is as always - a right b**tard, but the stretch from Otter Ferry To Kames with the head wind is very tough too. As Billy said, "probably the toughest run out there ........" I couldn't agree more!

The lift offered by Paul from Gourock back to civilisation was extremely appreciated, owe you one Paul!

It was great to see Big Al again after a long time, he's looking very well indeed .......well for a man of his age anyway :-)

Anyway, need more km in my legs from now on .......roll on the winter :-)

    Thanks again chaps!

    Cheers

Gerard Deeley reacted to EricL in Glasgow - Edinburgh...a big belter of a ride!
5.00 a.m. alarm, crawl out of bed quietly to get to Glasgow Green for 06.15 and a 06.45 start, sporting the JWCC blue and yellow colours, 115 miles (3 miles added due to missing a turn) and over 2,300 metres climbing later completed in 7 1/2 hours, tired and sore! First few miles up Stewarton Road thinned the riders out effectively, however from there all the way to Muirkirk and beyond a strong south-westerly head wind was in play, bit of a 'blow' having to pedal hard downhill! Up and over transmitter hill and several other impressive uphill challenges all unknown to me before today eventually destroyed the legs, a long solo day became as much a mental as physical battle. That said, the downhills are fast, too fast for me...oh yes, the sun shone brightly for much of the ride too! Well organised and signed, even with my self inflicted orienteering mishap, enough feed stations to bring to mind the saying "an eating contest with a bike ride attached'!

....Done it now, however to be honest unlikely to do it again.

Great day and thanks to Alan for organising. Even down to the ferry going to Gourock saved a few miles for some of us! ( sorry Gerard)

A great day out, thanks for organising it Allan.

Good company, good food, a few hills and a stiff breeze. Nine of us went round the island and nearly all went up the Serpintine before a feed stop and the ferry back. The ferry diversion to Gourock added a bit of interest, as well as some miles for those with a car at Weymss Bay! I hope everyone got home OK.

I've been holding off on posting on this pending a favourable weather forecast - but it's now looking good so I plan on being there and have negotiated the appropriate pass-out!

Will be cycling to the ferry from Kilmacolm, so will join the bunch in Option 1 above at around 08:30 at the Pullman.

Looking at the thread it looks like the bunch cycling down so far is just Allan and Morna, any other to help us along?

62.52 this morning. Slower than last week, but nearly 3 minutes faster than last year. If I had been offered that time three weeks ago, I'd have taken it, so it's all in perspective.

Going for recovery beers at Amaretto's at about 2 pm.

The second of the hill climbs, second time may be even more painful!

Start at 18:30, so meet a few minutes before.

As usual two helpers to timekeep and hold-up will be appreciated.

The route is on this link for anyone who has not done it before: JWCC Hill Climb Route

Lights are recommended, particularly if planning to cycle home.
