Gerard Deeley reacted to EricL in Covid19 updated 11/09/2020
Following the guidance update from the Scottish Government yesterday (10/09/2020), Scottish Cycling has confirmed the latest position regarding cycling activity and all of our individual responsibilities before, during and after each activity.
The updated route-map clearly states - the changes to meeting socially do not apply to services or activities that are already exempt from these restrictions and have been permitted to open subject to their own guidance such as organised sport. Scottish Cycling has had this confirmed this morning by sportscotland, so clubs can continue to run their activities in line with the previous guidance published on the 24th August. The key points now which will be reinforced are: The wider societal rules apply before and after club activity. Clubs must reinforce to members that this means a maximum of 6 people from 2 households, indoors and outdoors. This also applies to cafe stops, so please consider this when planning club activities. It is more important than ever that sport demonstrates to the Scottish Government that we are committed to running our activities within the agreed guidance. At present, this means: All clubs should have appointed a Covid-19 Coordinator This Covid-19 Coordinator should be known to Scottish Cycling The Covid-19 Coordinator should have completed the mandatory sportscotland e-learning and evidenced completion of this The club should have risk assessed its activities and made members aware of any mitigating measures in place Scottish Cycling has emphasised to sportscotland that this exemption to organised sport needs to be more clearly communicated by Government, to ensure that clubs are not confronted by members of the public, who may rightly think, that we are not complying with the government guidance. -

Should be around £20-30 depending on the colour mix. Should only take a couple of days.

so we are now allowed non socially distanced group rides of up to 30 people. You will have to socially distance when not riding though 🤷🏻♂️
This means that up to 27 more than last week can attend 👍
I have a ride round Galston-Moscow in mind & will upload it from Strava if I can work out how to do it.
It’d be good to get a big group out. I know plenty of people were out last weekend with splinter cells. Your prerogative but why not get value for your £30 membership fee? Unless you have Covid symptoms. If so, stay away 👊

Very understandable, a disappointing season all round, any attempt to resuscitate it now would be a waste of effort. Back next season stronger, fitter and faster (is what my sensible brain says, but it usually gets overruled).

Gerard Deeley reacted to charlie p in Covid update to follow
Dear Rider
JWCC held a virtual committee meeting last Monday You will not be surprised to know that COVID 19 was the major headline and will dominate decision making for sometime.
We recognised that we needed to create a Covid-19 post on the committee and I am pleased to report that last month Eric Lymburn agreed to be co-opted on to the Committee as our Covid-19 representative. He has attended virtual Scottish Cycling meetings on Covid-19, pored over government guidance and was able to provide us with a detailed report last night.
Having considered and discussed Covid related matters the Committee are unanimously of the view that for the foreseeable future there can be NO JWCC sanctioned events but we will continue to monitor government and Scottish Cycling guidance.
There will be NO sanctioned club runs until further notice. Before these can start we require volunteers to be “ride captains”. These will be responsible for preparing a “Covid register” containing contact details of participants and is responsible for ensuring that all riders comply with the guidelines. If any member wishes to be a ride captain then please contact me and I will facilitate a “ bunch run start up meeting” with Eric as he will oversee all club runs during Covid.
The Jets will be meeting in groups under different rules for U17s.
These are challenging times but hopefully we will have JWCC club runs soon but meantime please continue to enjoy riding your bike and STAY SAFE.
Alan McLean
Club Secretary

Was out for a ride along the Georgetown today & no traffic lights. Road from railway bridge to finish nice & smooth too so race is on for Tuesday.
as usual, ride course anytime on Tuesday and I’ll gather results from Strava.
Could d be some real events on in August so this is ideal practice.

Alarm was set for 7am, set off at 8am. I was booked on the 09:40 ferry. Joined by another 9 or maybe 11 people and bikes.
Didn't have any breakfast, thought I would get a bacon roll and a coffee to take away in the wee cafe just beside the ferry in Brodick, it was shut!
Got off the ferry in Brodick at 10:50 and headed south. Lovely smooth tarmac in Brodick.
Carried on to next place, cafe shut! There was one opened in Whiting Bay but it was busy and couldn't be bothered waiting in the queue.
It was Lochranza? (Wee ferry) before there was anywhere open that sold hot food.
Quite enjoyed the big long climb and then the totally awesome decent after this 😁
Rolled along into Brodick for 4pm in time to catch the 16:45 ferry back
FYI you need to wear face covering in the ticket office and on ferry (in case anyone forgets)
There is quite a lot of very rough tarmac, particularly going through towns/villages.
There are no food or drinks available on ferry.

Good effort guys, I am sure a few more Wheelers could pop out for a shot next week.

Soooo only 3 JWCC rode the course on Strava today:
Mr McTavish 15:42 (whit????)
Gerrard 18:43
Now for the controversial bit.... I rode the route and Strava has logged me for all the segments within the route but not the route itself. Dunno what’s going on there. I stopped my Garmin at 17:15-after the finish but Strava has a segment that is 0.1 of a mile shorter than the full route which timed me at 17:16. It’s not an official event so no big deal although both times are PB for me so pleased, especially as it’s my first go of the year.
maybe members have ridden who don’t use Strava. If so, post your time up if you feel like it.
More fun next week. Will play it by either to see what the weather is doing before picking a night
edit: I know what happened with strava. My garmin kept displaying the course during my warm up meaning I couldn’t see my mph hr etc so I disabled the segment. Must mean it doesn’t record it 👍

This we all understand and appreciate the clarity about this. My thoughts were to do some sort of segment challenge using the TT routes, which would easily fall within guidelines. My suspicion is that any subsequent posting/boasting/moaning about times on the club forum would divide opinion about club endorsement and to ensure club compliance with current guidelines it would be simpler to not have us posting. It would appear, for the sake of a couple more weeks, that waiting for day we resume some sort of club activity is the sensible way forward.
May I propose that we should consider reversing the hill climb route if we get to use it this year, hillclimbing just takes much more effort these days for some reason...

The guidance is that ALL sanctioned club activities remain suspended. I interpret that as we can't organise any real events on the roads through the club. Of course, there is no reason why a group of individuals who have a common interest can't organise something amongst themselves, but as a club, we cannot be seen to support that. Yet.
