Another great night. Getting the hang of this track malarkey. Star of night was Alan T with a great 2nd in last scratch race. I missed the devil race to avoid the footie traffic but think Alan will have done well as he had his race head on tonight. I am clearly a great motivator

After a couple of good TLI events I got found out in a big BC event and finished mid-pack. I entertained the Jets by locking up the rear wheel on a hairpin and kissing the grass.

But the venue, weather and ambience were spectacular. The Park was rammed with riders and spectators from 5 upwards. The Jets coaches swooned at the amount of tape and stakes. What a great advert for Scottish cyclocross. The course was very fast and even dusty. No mud on kit or skin at the finish, wanted my money back. The only disappointment was a relative shortage of younger racers from Jets and main club (ie U40) but Alan McB was there checking us out and I wonder if Santa might bring him a cx bike a little early.

Big kudos to Billie and Paul for finishing after rolling a tub and a mechanical respectively. Also to Martin and Duncan for setting up the Easy-up to provide a club base and to Norma Millar for coffee and cake in support. Big slagging also for Billie for using double-sided sellotape to fix his tubs on.

Come on board folks but as we move into winter we can only offer you sweat, rain and mud.

Dull technical point: My front QR lever was pointing forward, as I tell the Jets NOT to do, and sure enough it was loosened in a clash of wheels at a hairpin. I had to stop and retighten. So I highly recommend that QR levers point backwards.

first cyclocross race for ages, loved it. dead slow though. onwards and upwards.
Jamie said I was rubbish, he said it was a helpful comment.
Just because he was 3rd in U12 doesn't mean he can slag off his old man. No, actually, it does

Excellent report Alan. Honest to a fault about the QR lever which frankly is just too embarrassing to mention.

I'd forgotten how tough that could be. Started brightly enough with a 6th place in the first race but went rapidly backwards after that. Ended up time trialling the next two races because I didn't have a hope of going with the surges. The devil was pretty much a case of muscling my way past the tail rider until I ran out of strength.
Great night, can''t wait for next week.

Enjoyable night. For the Bs it was the sprint first, i missed the jump and had to close a fairly big gap had ok speed on the final lap but couldnt come round so didnt qualify for the final. Points next tried for for a break but it was a half arsed attempt, got caught then yo yoing of the back to the end. Scratch felt ok although i was too near the back to place well in the sprint.  Last up was a devil, did ok ended up 4th or 5th.  Overall better than last week but still work to do. Some good results from Hamish and Matti if they continue their progress it wont be long until they are in the As

I'm sure other members have better ways, but the way I do this is to squeeze the brake lever to hold the pads onto the rim in the right position before tightening the bolt holding the pad onto the calliper. That way the surface of the brake pad is parallel to the rim's braking surface and as the pad wears it can be adjusted using the same technique to keep the pads aligned.

1 pair Giro Apecxx Shoes - size 42 - £30 ono (currently £59.99 in Evans sale)

If you normally take shoe size 7/41, then these will fit well.

    Shimano PD R550 SPD-SL Pedals - £20 ono (cost £35)

I'm going back to my Speedplays after a failed experiment with proper road shoes and pedals. These items have done a total of less than 150 miles.

£45 the lot if bought together.

I solved this last year by moving the turbo to a spare bedroom, it avoids having to go out in the cold and wet to get to the turbo but I'm told that it can be heard throughout the house when the turbo is going full blast!

It also means the kids that have left home are less likely to come back!

Well that was fun, First two laps wheelers 1-2. Got the Hole Shot (Davie B )    and Alan right behind pushing me on at one point we had a gap to the field but we were both well in the red. At one point I looked at Alan an thought what the **** are we doing leading out this race  Well done to the Jets! Nice day out and my Curry paid for

Wow, summer was still in Balloch today with hot sunshine in a beautiful country park setting. Stakes and tape really set off these venues and a good PA system with His High Crossness Jammie Johnston giving a commentary to round it all off. Crippling lack of ambition and increasing age meant I was in the B race.

Paul monstered the mass start and he led me into the first corner for a JWCC 1+2 ahead of the pack. Paul strung out the big field along the first fast straight and tempted me to slingshot past him and we led for the first couple of laps. It is always good to miss the inevitable jams mid-pack. I was red-lining and was passed by the eventual winner but Paul held on for a very strong second place with me in third about forty seconds behind.

Lewis Overend, Jets, was first Junior in B race. There was an A race but we won't go there.

Looking forward to Bute next weekend. As usual I can recommend the cyclocross scene highly for accessibility and informality. All ages and abilities welcome.

A powerline range extender might do the trick - basically you plug it into a power socket then run a cable to your wifi router then you put a receiver into a socket near where you want a wifi signal. It uses the electrical wires to send the data (so you will need to be one same electrical circuit). I have a BT branded one which cost about £30 and i dont notice any speed difference when connected to that compared to connected to the normal wifi.

Many thanks to Billy this morning and a massive thanks to Graham and KarenG (and Jane for organising us :-)) in the Freshers Fayre today at the Paisley Campus of the University of the West of Scotland and also to Johnathan Cranstoun the President of Sport and wellbeing for having us.
We had a really good response today and hopefully we can build on this going forward E.g by offering a student taster session and there was interest in us providing a turbo session on campus also.
These sessions and the development of the club can only go ahead with the help of you chaps & chapesses so please help support nearer the time when request comes for volunteers for the odd hour of your time.

    Best regards,
    Sans

Ps and a pic of we was here ...hopefully
