EricL reacted to DavidC in Sunday 1st May
Darryl, fantastic epic run. Great company and really enjoyed the day up until the last few hills, which nearly killed me.
Was glad when my private taxi arrived to save the last 15 miles. Cheers again

Wow! A truly great day on the bike, Will struggle to top that in Scotland.
Fantastic roads, climbs and weather.
Cheers to the routemaster Darryl, Ian67, David and Ginty for the company.
Anyone know where I can get new knee's?

I got to the bridge in time in the end & was met by first David, then Iain Ginty, Darryl, Robbie, Charlie & Iain67.
So, the 7 of us made our way around the route, but being time constrain, Charlie & myself turned back after Glen Fruinn as we bid good bye to the 5 who carried on their way to Dunoon.
Charlie & I made an early café stop in the Corries at Balloch, just as well, as the heavens opened while we sat inside.
After food & drinks, then a 2 -up back towards the bridge where upon I stayed North side to leave him heading home solo. Thanks for the lunch & wheel today Charlie, most enjoyable!
Got home just before 1 o'clock with 125km ridden, still plenty of time to do whatever that was needed afterwards, brilliant!
Well, my first outing in the bunch on my new "toy" :-) Thoroughly enjoy-able indeed, pity cannot do Darryl's full booner route, no doubt you guys would have had a cracking day on the bike regardless!
Thanks for the company today guys, more of the same again please!
Cheers
Chung

Thanks to Graham and Eric for timekeeping and holding tonight. Like Gerard said, the wind didn't get in the way much, and apart from the start, didn't help much either. Great run from Douglas on a busy course.

Yet another big thank you to Graham and Eric for their duties tonight. It was a cold evening despite the sunshine and the wind seemed neither a hindrance or a help by the end of the run. Decent times from all, especially Douglas. Thinking about an aero poncho for next week though Mr Couttie!

EricL reacted to Alan McLean in Off-topic for Strava nerds
For years I held some utterly obscure running KOMs around here. Unlike cycling there is far less assistance from wind and bunches, so really niche routes can remain untouched for ages. Amongst punters like me any gains are usually measured in a few secs/km at most.
However over the winter someone hoovered up my KOMs by >1 min/km. They were moving at 3min/kms on the track between here and Paisley, ie 20 km/h. I assumed it was a fat bloke on an ebike having a laugh.
Actually it was the amazing Callum Hawkins, selected for British Olympic marathon team, and his brother Derek who hopes to be selected tomorrow. These guys are from Kilbarchan and are among the best runners in the world.
On one hand It is great to have locals running in the big event but from my Strava running career POV it is a disaster comparable to Wiggins and Froome putting down their markers without the chance of me ever getting them back!
sample Olympic training run here, I like the way he eased off in the last 9k.

A good day out on the 'double lumpy', a few incidents (glad to learn those involved are ok) some obligatory hill induced pain and laughs along the way!
Good route planning matched by riding weather and dry roads. Helped along with a coffee and scone at the BB on 1st Largs visit, chocolate Freddo (cheers Paul) and coke on the return leg!

EricL reacted to Gerard Deeley in 17th April – Whole Club Run to Sheila's Diner
By way of contrast the other bunch had a straightforward time, meeting at the bottom of the Clune before sailing on the 0900h ferry with the Cowans, taking our group up to eight ( Carol, David, Paul, Eric, Andrew, Alan, Graham and myself. We quickly made it past Loch Tarsan on the B836 and then up that climb to regroup. A steady pace up the A886 on a climb that just never seems to end, before the grin inducing, adrenaline shot of life reaffirmation that is the descent towards Strachur. Andrews suggestion that we do a chain gang along the side of Loch Eck then kept us going a fair pace and then on to Sheilas Diner. Jane met us at the diner and we waited and waited for the others and then gave up waiting, went for the ferry (minus Jane and Graham). After the ferry there was the usual undoing of the morning meetups as we retraced our steps to home and an end to our playtime.
