Ramsay reacted to Mark O in Sunday 16th: ‘farm watch’ ride
I was saddened to read Darryl’s post, above, and learn of Davie B’s passing.
Davie was a wheeler at heart.
The man who went to Italy with blue tinged legs and came home with blue tinged legs.
Many a time he would appear out of the murk on a Sunday morning, to meet me on the track at Kilbirnie, with his grimace on and greet me with a ‘Morning - shite weather’ and barely miss a pedal stroke. We also limped home down the track to the Garnock Valley numerous times, sucking each others wheels to save what little was left in the tank after a long day in the saddle. The best of times.
Davie was the most modest down to earth bloke, who loved to get off the main drag and head for the rural lanes and tracks. The more rutted and mankier the better. He had a pragmatic almost bleak outlook on life but was a dependable, generous individual with a wry sense of humour. Never particularly vociferous, yet spoke his mind when the occasion arose.
I don’t know if Davie’s passing, and indeed his life, has been marked on the Club’s Facebook page (I don’t do Facebook), but it seems remiss that there is nothing on the the Bunch to pay tribute to the man. If this thread is it then this is my contribution.
Davie B your were and always will be a Joansin Wheeler. You sadly ran out of farm tracks way too soon. You’ll be missed.

Ramsay reacted to chung in Gravel ….. here I come :-)
Here is a few photos to show some of the extra “details” I treated to my frame before building it …… all good prep. work to help prevent further issues down the line …… given that this frame should have a “hard” life when it gets used 🙂
Ordered some “marine” grade torx bolts to “plug” all the threaded bosses around the frame for mudguards & panniers etc. since these won’t get use (for now anyway)
“Chasing & Facing” the bottom bracket thread & shell for a clean & “perfect” fit for the BB cups ….. it’s got to be done 🙂

A few more detail shots 🙂
Just look at the mahoosive cassette at the back 9-42t ........ jesus I hear you scream ...... 40t at the front, that's a much lower gear ratio than even my road 29-34 set up

Ramsay reacted to Darryl Gunson in Sunday 16th: ‘farm watch’ ride
Sunday 16th: planning on a wee spin along the back roads in memory of our dear friend Davie Borland. Davie was a big fan of ‘farm watch’ rides so we’ll be seeking out some of the worst roads in the area 😅
All welcome to join me - including gravellers 😀
9.30 Miller Street.
PM me if you know of any bad roads Davie would have liked (or did indeed like) and we’ll try and incorporate them!

Ramsay reacted to P McDonald in Flanders 2020
Hi Ramsay
Myself and daughter Emma thinking about it if we can get an entry. Entries not open yet but keeping an eye on it, I guess it could end up full with carry overs ! My plan would likely be to fly to Amsterdam, hire car etc with Emma getting train from London where she lives.
Keeping a watching brief

Ramsay reacted to P McDonald in Pedals
Hello Ramsay, hope all good with you both
I have used Espresso's for a few years now, would recommend them, they are very good. I reckon go for the first one in the range which has the metal wear plate - last time I bought a pair it was the Espresso 4.
Only small downside is cleats wear out a bit quicker than others.
cheers

Hi Ramsay
i used Speedplay for years. Very easy to clip in and out. The new walkable cleat covers are a nice improvement. I changed because they were quite high maintenance, and expensive.
You might consider Time Espresso. V light; good value, v easy to clip in and out.
Or, you might try SPDs - maybe go high end such as XTR. By far the easiest pedal to use, and very robust. Higher end versions are also very light.

Ramsay got a reaction from Richie Cross in Farewell
Davie,
So sorry to hear this news.
I have many fond memories of rides, trips and events with you and others in the club, and I am sure I have plenty of photos to go with many of them. Top of the Kapelmuur is attached and I will look out a few photos and send them over.
Unfortunately I don’t have any photos of you leaving our BBQ with Mark O’Neil a few years back….via the bush at the side of the garden and the hedge at the end. However, I’ll never forget it as it always brings a smile to my face.
I hope you get onto the treatment soon and that you can get out on your gravel e-bike. Sorry it's been so long since we rode together, but if you are looking for some company around some local lanes, then I’d be more than happy to join you.
Best wishes and thank you for posting.

Ramsay got a reaction from chung in Cross/gravel ebikes
Hi Chung,
......funny you should mention that. I think I have narrowed it down to the Colnago eGRV or the Wilier Jena Hybrid. The Wilier comes with a few better features, but the the Colnago looks fantastic......and it’s a Colnago. Only slight issue is that as they are gravel bikes, it would need to come with fishing gear and not Campagnolo! 🙄😱🤣
Hope all is well with you.
Cheers,
R

Ramsay got a reaction from chung in Cross/gravel ebikes
Afternoon all,
Has been a while. 👋 Hope everyone is well.
After nearly 8 years of knee problems (with multiple re-injure, rehab, recovery......) I have decided it is time to get an ebike to help take the strain out of climbing. I’m looking at crossers (or gravel bikes as they have been re-invented as) and there are quite a few options out there.
Does anyone have any experience of any e road/cross/gravel bikes? Particularly in terms of hub drive v mid-drive. Any thoughts would be welcome.....unless they are too cheeky! 😄
Ramsay
P.S. - as climbing was what I used to consider my main strength on a bike, the irony of now needing a battery to help is not lost on me!! 🙄🤷♂️😂

No words required. Received this magnificent photo today from an SA vet who quite understandably would love to become a DA vet 🤣

Ramsay reacted to martin in Road cc article - Campbell Hutcheson
https://road.cc/content/news/269517-complaints-upheld-after-police-failed-act-against-driver-who-left-cyclist-spinal
Shocking article about (ex?) member Campbell Hutcheson. I knew he'd been involved in an incident but never knew the circumstances.
Pretty sure I saw him on a bike last week though, if you're reading this Campbell hope all is well.
