Portage is most commonly associated with the (French Canadien) voyageurs in the pioneering days and as suggested means to carry canoes over land where it was impossible to travel via the watercourse. Ray Mears did an excellent documentary exploring these pioneering trails if anybody wishes to seek it out.

Keen wine buffs (or mere quaffers) should be familar with terrior.

YOLO who knows.

The language of 'cross is surely Flemish, which reminds me of the finest Sporza and Vier commentators and their sage pronouncements of such gems as ...aye... aye,aye.....aye, aye...aye..aye. Which translates roughly as that was a bit impressive.

Dear Club Members

The third annual running of this fantastic island event is now almost upon us and I wanted to be sure that every one gets a chance to enter before the online closing date of 12th September.  Your members should go to https://www.entrycentral.com/butecross in order to make sure their entry is secure.  Access to the island is via CalMac ferry with a frequent service running from Wemyss Bay with a direct railway link from Glasgow. See https://www.calmac.co.uk/wemyssbay-rothesay-bute-ferry-summer-timetable

I attach a posters advertising the event and the Saturday evening social at the Victoria Hotel in Rothesay.  Please share, print, display or whatever you can.

The event forms part of the Rothesay Festival of Cycling.  Check out http://www.rothesayweekend.co.uk/ for details.

This is going to be a great family event.  Don’t miss it…..

Best wishes

Stuart Green
