Hello,

The long term forecast is that it's set to be sizzling again next weekend.

If this turns out to be the case would there be interest in a ride round Dunoon via Arrochar?

Maybe leave Miller Street @ 08.30?

Davie, I foolishly told the wife that I wouldn't be out all day Sunday after all. She's just told me we are going out for a late lunch so I'm snookered for the Dunoon ride.

I'll definitely be out on Sunday now and I'm keen to do the Rest and Hell's Glen. It's a cracking run for a working bunch in warm weather, especially if you can get the Rest behind you before the traffic builds up. Worth considering this one if you've got the legs and time for an all-day expedition. Plenty of opportunity to see Largs over winter.

Chung's in too, I think.

Sorry, guys.

I thought this would be a go-er but stuff got in the way.

I'll just go get a pasting from Andy & co.

At least it won't be an all day pasting :)

Remember the factor 80!

9:20 at the south side of the bridge yesterday - nobody to be seen apart from me, Chung and Hugh. Having wasted a quarter of an hour waiting, we headed off for Helensburgh, a bit bewildered at why there were only three of us out on a day when the forecast was as close to perfect as we're likely to see. Up the Rest, and the early morning cloud had mostly burnt off leaving blue skies with misty wisps around the summits of the Cobbler and Beinn Ime. We were cracking on in a really business-like way. We rolled into Strachur by half-twelve where we met Al Yuille for a long lunch - early enough to get seats inside the cafe. The food was good; the service is slooooow!

Al escorted us down the shores of Loch Eck to the outskirts of Dunoon. We made the slipway just in time to board a ferry packed with cyclists, mostly Inverclyde Velo boys, who gave us a bit of company as far as Greenock when we reached the other side. One of the lads in this group - Matt from Race Engineering - had pedalled out to McInroy's Point for a spin after his night shift. He very kindly palled us back to the Bishopton roundabout, so we had another body to work into the wind.

One of the best runs of the year for me, but then that's the first time I've ridden that route in 2013. Hugh and Chung have both done it within the last couple of months, so had we known it was only going to be the three of us, we could have arranged to go to Arran or some other destination suitable for a summer's day, one that was fresh for all of us. I'm a bit peeved at all the changes of heart and no-shows as a result.

I also can't help but think that I could have given Ian McGinty a bit of company on practically the same route on the Saturday rather than hanging on an extra day for a bunch that didn't turn up. My legs were shredded on Saturday but I was basically free, and I suspect that Hugh and Chung could also have went then too. Not great.

Don't think the weather had any bearing on the turnout, Richard.

Davie, Andy, Ross & I all indicated early in the week that we had to be back sharp.

A quick glance at the thread shows that everyone else had the decency to post up that they couldn't make it.

Sometimes life gets in the way of our ambitions.

See you in Largs sometime :)
