Apparently the biggest bunch they've had in decades - crazy at times like this.

We will 100% be sticking to the rules, Alan. Less risk than sitting in a pub or restaurant at the moment. I did see a training bunch on south side of Glasgow that had 28 riders in it though and we wonder why people hate cyclists....

As we edge gradually back to semi-normality we are now allowed club runs, albeit in reduced group sizes and with safeguards in place.
The committee have given the ok for club rides to start up but only in groups of a maximum of 5. We can do multiple groups though, so long as we don’t mix.
With this in mind I propose the first ride to meet at 9:30am this Sunday outside the club rooms. It’ll be the bog standard ride to BB in Largs. The reason being it’s somewhere we are familiar with so less chance of any social distancing faux pas in the cafe. If all goes well we can do different routes each week.
If folk post up here to let me know they are coming I will call the BB to book a table as it’s reduced capacity and bound to be busy, going by the forecast.
anyone wishing to attend must give me their phone number so I can pass it on to Eric, our Covid officer. I will bring hand sanitizer which anyone is free to use but ideally you will  bring your own.
If someone has a mechanical they will have to fix it themselves due to 2 metre rule.
Finally, if you have a dry cough, have lost your sense of smell &/or taste or have a temperature PLEASE STAY AWAY!!!!

Was introduced to a very nice and very cyclist friendly cafe this morning called the Heron. Located on the eastern most reaches of the transmitter hills route (detour may be applicable). Worth a google for the discerning cyclist ‘cafeista’. Heron cafe and farm shop out between Glastonbury and Strathaven.

Another Single Arran in the bag and the first woman on the hall of fame. Well done Laura 😁
Less than ideal wind conditions with a strong crosswind for much of the west coast but the pacing was spot on and we made it to the ferry with time to spare.

So here is the updated Hall of Fame - just waiting for more names to be added to the illustrious list.
I'm just thinking - 2021 will be the 10 year anniversary of the first SA - and also the 5 year anniversary of the first DA, so it would be fitting to get a load of new SA inductees  next year and maybe even another DA if anyone was looking for a stretch target for next summer

Was out for a ride along the Georgetown today & no traffic lights. Road from railway bridge to finish nice & smooth too so race is on for Tuesday.
as usual, ride course anytime on Tuesday and I’ll gather results from Strava.
Could d be some real events on in August so this is ideal practice.

Well done - Lochranza is a long way round for food if you've not had any breakfast!

Alarm was set for 7am, set off at 8am. I was booked on the 09:40 ferry. Joined by another 9 or maybe 11 people and bikes.
Didn't have any breakfast, thought I would get a bacon roll and a coffee to take away in the wee cafe just beside the ferry in Brodick, it was shut!
Got off the ferry in Brodick at 10:50 and headed south. Lovely smooth tarmac in Brodick.
Carried on to next place, cafe shut! There was one opened in Whiting Bay but it was busy and couldn't be bothered waiting in the queue.
It was Lochranza? (Wee ferry) before there was anywhere open that sold hot food.
Quite enjoyed the big long climb and then the totally awesome decent after this 😁
Rolled along into Brodick for 4pm in time to catch the 16:45 ferry back

FYI you need to wear face covering in the ticket office and on ferry (in case anyone forgets)
There is quite a lot of very rough tarmac, particularly going through towns/villages.
There are no food or drinks available on ferry.

Unless its a northerly wind (or north westerly or north easterly) then clockwise should be fastest. On a still day i'd prefer to do it clockwise too, south half of the island is harder so better to do that with fresh legs.

thejanullrichdietplan reacted to EricL in Scottish Cycling - Covid19 Update 13/07/2020
Many of you will already be aware of the updated guidance issued yesterday by Scottish Cycling on The Way Forward for the sport and club activities, the full document can be viewed here https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/zuvvi/media/Scottish_Cycling_The_Way_Forwardv7.pdf
For now it appears that a continuation of 'social' solo and small group rides remains the only realistic course of action - max adult bunch size will likely be 5 if all riders are from different households, still nothing indoors (i.e. use of clubroom), no events, no confined TT. Maintain 2m distancing and personal hygiene (hands, mouth & nose). To avoid need for ride register maybe best to let ‘informal’ ride groups form. Much of the SC document relates to club coaching, which we don’t do, and activities for U17 (Jets).
This document from Scottish Cycling is being regularly amended however it does follow guidance from and requires prior approval of the Scottish Government as each relaxation is announced. so we can expect further changes in the coming weeks.
In the meantime have a good read through and self manage accordingly as there continues to be no official JWCC event until further notice.

forecast not great next week so just stick to Tuesday for continuity.
same as last time, ride the course anytime on Tuesday. I’ll post the results up from Strava. You are all using Strava?

    Well done on the PB!
It might be to do with garmin autostart (if the  TT is a new ride with the start of the ride the start of the TT)  - when you start rolling it takes a second or two to register so can miss the start of the segment. I  just leave my garmin on for the warm up and rolling about and then hit the lap button at the start. (then have a screen on the garmin to show lap power and lap time)

Found it quite a tough night, wind made for a slow first leg. The new surface up the hill to the roundabout is an improvement though!

Not quite. It's complicated a bit as the JWCC course is slightly different to the one used for the CTT and Georgetown cup

Soooo only 3 JWCC rode the course on Strava today:
    Mr McTavish 15:42 (whit????)
    Gerrard 18:43
Now for the controversial bit.... I rode the route and Strava has logged me for all the segments within the route but not the route itself. Dunno what’s going on there. I stopped my Garmin at 17:15-after the finish but Strava has a segment that is 0.1 of a mile shorter than the full route which timed me at 17:16. It’s not an official event so no big deal although both times are PB for me so pleased, especially as it’s my first go of the year.

maybe  members have ridden who don’t use Strava. If so, post your time up if you feel like it.
More fun next week. Will play it by either to see what the weather is doing before picking a night
edit: I know what happened with strava. My garmin kept displaying the course during my warm up meaning I couldn’t see my mph hr etc so I disabled the segment. Must mean it doesn’t record it 👍

The useless and incomprehensible data is my favourite bit of a TT - it's the fat mans consolation - seeing if i did more watts than anyone that beat me 😄
