ianjmcd reacted to Ramsay in New Club Equipment
Dear all,
As some of you may already know, the club has secured some funding through its membership and participation in the Johnstone Community Sports Hub, run by Renfrewshire Council. Through the Hub we secured SportScotland funding for a number of coaching courses and for some new equipment.
The coach funding will be used to increase the number of coaches we have in both the main club and the Jets.
The new equipment we are obtaining is:
5 sets of Tacx rollers (will be in the club house later this week, once I have built them up)
5 Dolan track bikes (hopefully delivered within the next week or so)
time keepers stopwatch (to be ordered shortly)
The rollers will be left for all to use in the club rooms (please ensure you strictly follow the instructions to adjust them to fit your bike - it's fairly easy, but not without the instructuions!).
The track bikes (sizes 60cm, 56cm, 54cm, 52cm and 50cm) will be available for all current club members and at present the committee have suggested that they should be "hired" for a 1 month period for £10 (free to youth/junior), which should cover maintenance/repair costs. Once we have them I will start a booking system, based on first come, first served basis.
Thanks have to go to:
Dooley's Cycles for maximising the amount of kit we are getting for the available funding.
Renfrewshire Council for making the funding application on behalf of the Hub.
SportScotland for the funding.
Any questions, please don't hesitate to ask me.
Cheers,
Ramsay

ianjmcd reacted to IanE in Not a normal 30 miler run 4/11/12
Greig and the other 30 milers - thanks for the welcome at the club rooms and the company on the run this morning. As a new club member I enjoyed the run (briefly) however I clearly need to work on my fitness levels.
Boyd - thanks for the advice and I will join the group on future runs with bail out options until I get up to speed.
Once again thanks for pulling me along and hopefully won't be to long till I get up to speed.

Flying satsuma,
I dont want to pontificate, but I will
Forget you ethics and morals lecture, anything goes in a sprint ....as long as I win,
including not telling you where it is, hand slings, sneaking up the pavement, blocking tactics and all manner of other deeds, the most important being if you get on gregs wheel then it's 80% job done
So there you are,

No worries, George. I was just wondering what had happened. I should have texted one of you before I left the house but I was in a bit of a daze and didn't get round to it. (In fact, when the alarm went off this morning, I started getting ready for work. It was a good couple of minutes before I realised what day it was.)
I was out for three hours or so, without ever straying too far from civilization. I think you probably made the right call, turning back at Lochwinnoch. I saw one chap wipe out on leaves on the track having grabbed too much rear brake to avoid a dog. The back roads around Kilmalcolm were covered in slush and it was easily cold enough for ice in sheltered spots. Just like George said, folks - be very careful if you're out early tomorrow morning.

You will get a tacx flow on e-bay for that.
has power, cadence and all kinds of gubbins that will make you miserable.
Or you could buy 14 cases of beer from Morrisons.
Cheersh!

ianjmcd reacted to fawlty in Beginner looking for road bike
Hi thanks all for the advice. Just realised that I can access the Cyclescheme through work so I can buy something new tax free !!
Dilema now is shiny new bike for circa £650 or 2nd hand for circa £400. Too much choice now. When I was a nipper (yawn!!!) it was a Raleigh 10 speed Take it or Leave it !!

By track I meant velodrome (not cycle track) and by mud I meant cyclocross !!
Was just highlighting the vast range of cycle related acttivities we can all indulge in these days.
And I couldn't agree more - especially as one who cannot wear glasses - muddies all round for any road stuff

ianjmcd got a reaction from fawlty in Paisley begginer
IM in the same boat tom not looking to race i done that when i was younger , So today i went and picked up a brand new carrera Tds thats selling in halfords for 499 but guy had only used it for about 5 miles did not like the drop bars and i bought it off him for £250 not bad considering its only weeks old
put a pair of raceblades on it so should do as a starter/winter bike see how i get on with the youngsters on a club run before i commit to joining the club
ps: might get fit enough to look at racing next summer but see what happens

Before buying decide what you want to do with it
Do you want to race? Ride 100 mile sportives
Once you decided what you want pick bikes that will suit the chosen style
The spend as much as you can afford noting big name frames equal low quality wheels and group sets unless you spend big
Look on e bay and others as you might find a bargin

ianjmcd reacted to GrahamF in 30 Milers 28th October
Just 3 30 milers this morning, Boyd, Ken & myself. Thanks to Boyd for proposing an alternative route: Kilbernie, Beith, Beith Golf Course, and down Bowfield Hill. Around 27 miles Clubrooms to Clubrooms but I think it was enough for us on a wet morning!
Hope for better weather next week with a consequential larger turnout.
Graham.
