  1. Great route on quiet roads, well run event, hills upon hills upon hills. Catering of Drumlanrig standard!

Andrew and I managed to stay with Darryl and Foxy until about the 70 mile mark when the hills started to take their toll. If Darryl's Garmin map is correct it looks like without our steadying influence they decided to add a few extra unofficial miles to visit Hawick!

Gala CC are keen that we rate their event.

  2. While not disagreeing with Iain or Richie that the forum is generally civilised, I think a key point of George's post was the reminder that this is a public forum and we all need to consider what we say and how we say it and the impact on outside viewers and specifically prospective members.

  3. Myself, AndrewD and another friend just back from two days from Dunoon up round Loch Awe and back via Tarbert with Dave Moss of Tearfund Cycling and friends, 112 miles day 1 and 80 miles days 2. Cream crackered! Great hostel, Torran Bay, at the foot of Loch Awe.

Have a great run tomorrow and work hard for coach Billy!

  4. The cycle across London was quite interesting and avoided the subway hassle. There's a paved cycle path along a canal that heads east for a good part of the journey, then onto one of Boris super cycle highways. Good fun.

I went to/from London by Virgin west coast train for last years event and it worked well. Things to note:

    - you can only book the train 13 weeks in advance

    - bikes travel free and have to be booked separately

    - only room for 4 bikes on each train, so get n quick

I stayed in an apartment in he east end. One bedroom, two beds, small kitchen and lounge. Meant I could eat to suit and keep bike in room. Marlin Apartments, Stratford.

Staying in the east end worked well. Registration is in the east and it took 3 mins to get to the start.

I cycled across London from Euston to the apartments with my backpack, around 10 miles. The organisers take your bag from the start to the finish, which is 10 mins cycle from Euston.

Worth spending time drinking free beer and listening to bands at the park at he end. I watched the end of the pro event before going for train.

Great event, fast course, minimal hills and good two days in London.

  6. Great day yesterday at Drumlanrig. The organisers Rolf & Dave and all their helpers are really appreciative of the Wheelers support over the years.

Their Fort William Lochaber 100 event is just as good as Drumlanrig with a fantastic route and even more home baking to wade through. Plenty of B&Bs, caravan parks & camping for the Friday night to bring a social element to the trip!

Are you sure you've thought this through?

Most people take 2 to 4 days, spend around 1/3 of the time pushing or carrying their bikes for 1/4 of the distance and either carry big loads or have a support vehicle with clothes, food and spares. Sounds harder than Paris Roubaix! Other than that it sounds fun...in a devil may care, suicidal way!

Ideal treatment too for a hernia I believe.
