  9. Great effort from Mike - fulfilling two ambitions in seven days - riding a 100 and beating the hour for a twenty five! Fantastic result in a season of fine times -absolutely delighted for him! Full results below. Ben won clearly again, setting another PB in the process. I managed a more modest PB, but still took a chunk off mine. Still a couple of 25s to go on the Westferry this season, so we'll see what can be achieved. Iain Results from the Inverclyde Velo 25TT at West Ferry. Dry, warm(ish) conditions with plenty of fast times set on the morning. Big bad Ben bagged the win with a cracking time of 51 min 33 seconds, well done. I would like to thank to all the riders for taking part, but more so the Time Keepers, Jack Robertson, Alex Hunter and Louise Newman, the Commissaire, Ian Sharp, Margret Hunter for the catering and all the members of our club for marshalling and making the event possible. 10. I am happy to have a go again too - good cause plus a Flying Scot rally! Hope it's drier than last year! Who else is game? Iain
  11. Thanks indeed to Jann & Mary for timekeeping. Well done to all, especially Iain Couttie on the PB and those giving it a go for the first time! Commiserations to David T on the initial puncture and fair play for giving it a second go! A pretty breezy night which seemed like hard work on the way out, but fun on the way back - at least it felt/looked like summer! Iain
  12. Very well done Paul and all the best for next week Iain
  13. LEJOG Update My stage of the sponsored cycle (Carlisle to Alexandria) on Friday 3rd August went really well. Seven riders (+ two support drivers) met up in Carlisle, were on the road for 10 (having been slightly delayed by a cafe doing fabulous breakfasts!) and enjoyed good weather (sun/broken cloud, very little wind and only spotting rain) all day. Our route was cycle route 74 following the A74 - Gretna, Lockerbie, over Beattock Summit, Abington, Douglas, Blackwood, Larkhall, Hamilton, Bothwell, Uddingston and in through the east end of Glasgow, past the Velodrome, though Glasgow Green to pick up the cycle path along the Clyde and out through Bowling to Dumbarton etc. Three punctures all day and rain only started as the group reached their digs for the night. Many thanks to those who sponsored me - I will arrange to collect outstanding monies this/next week and confirm the amount raised when all in. Mary
  14. Many thanks for the good wishes folks! In the end only Mike and I rode, Kenny having indicated he wouldn't make it on this occasion. Honours go to Mike as usual, who recorded 4:38:21 (Av Speed 21.56mph) on his first 100 - well done indeed. I managed 4:47:09 (Av Speed 20.9 mph). Eddie Addis of Equipe Velo Eccosse won in 3:54:42, twenty eight seconds clear from Jim Cusick of the Couriers. Special mention due to Mark Ewing, West Lothian Clarion, who finished 5th in his first 100, with 4:05:19 - a great effort beating the likes of Carlos Riise who was 9th in 4:11:56. It was a friendly and efficient event - very well organised and marshalled. We awoke to heavy rain, cold blustery conditions and low cloud. Thankfully, by the 7am start the rain had eased and by halfway it had stopped and warmed up a bit. I thought the wind freshened a bit too. Not sure about the course tho' - the first and last 4 or so miles of each lap were on freshly laid/dreaded loose chippings and the main A9 part of the course was pretty worn carriageway, which combined with heavy commercial and tourist traffic from very early on, ensured there was little chance of relaxing into the ride. Gradient was mostly drags with only two or three sharper lifts - cross winds were an issue in places given the largely shoreline location. Bizarrely, there was a sole traffic light at a T junction in Invergordon (why?), which the organisers could not secure permission to have turned off for the morning - in the event it seemed to stay at green for the duration. The real hazard there was lemming-like tourists from a berthed cruise ship, stepping out oblivious to oncoming bikes! I felt a bit out of sorts early on - a bit stiff and sore. Just a question of patience and not fretting about what you cannot change (roads, weather, headwind, unearthly hour). By about halfway I was feeling better and it was dry! For whatever reason, I managed the second half about 2-3 minutes quicker. Both Mike and I were pretty tired at the end - new territory etc. We also shared a strange sensation over the final 4 or so miles... although finishing fairly strongly, unable to ride any longer on the extensions.. not because (for me at least) arms were tired but simply that my neck muscles could no longer support my head at that angle! My line of sight shortened to include only stem and front wheel, so a distinctly non-aero finish, riding on the tops to ensure staying upright at least! Two advance decisions were justified; for me no aero helmet (too heavy/hot and, in my case, tired heads go down/pointy hat goes up!) - no skinsuit (need pockets for munchies). So, an ambition of sorts fulfilled for Mike and I. Both a bit non -committal about a second go -mibbies aye/mibbies naw - early yet! Many thanks to Mary for handing us bottles up (on cue - unlike the supporter engrossed in the Sunday paper who missed the rider!) and general support. Anyone for next year? Iain
  15. Sorry Paul - this is just not going to work out for me. 26 August is the club's open Sam Dooley 25TT - I am hoping to ride and there will likely be a call on members to help out/marshall etc. Similarly, 2nd September is the day after the Georgetown Cup and also coincides with the last open 25 on the Westferry (VC Glasgow South). Another time for me - always a delight to cycle in highland Perthshire! Iain
  16. Thanks indeed to Mary and Mr McGinty for timekeeping and "shovin aff" duties - much appreciated! Another perplexing Westferry wind experience but great it stayed dry! Well done to all, especially the PBs and Andy in particular - great to see new faces giving it a go! Iain
  17. A good "combo" run today - very enjoyable, thanks. The intermediates headed for Largs, where the fast chaps caught up with us just in time for the cafe stop. We came home via Brisbane Glen, the Whynn (sp?) and the track from Kilamcolm. We got wet too - several times! Mary p.s Hope Dave's OK.
  18. Mary's planning to ride. As she seems to have given me her cold I'll sit this one out and help out with Ian or"haud up" as required. Iain
  19. Aye, thanks indeed to Ian for timekeeping and Greig for support! Well done to all and commiserations to Mark on the mechanical. Iain
  20. Mary and I plan to be along too. Iain
