    Hi All,

Here are my take on the trip, also some Garmin stats & photos for anyone thats interested.
Most of us only went for 5 days, so others can fill in the gaps before we arrived & after we left.

    Day 1 Saturday
Arrived at hotel after lunch time with really bad weather. So, no bike ride, just settling in & building up bikes and chilling out.

    Day 2 Sunday
Terrible weather again, but made it out for a short ride to Formentor (light house) with Ritchie after we got lost from DavieB & Richard. We dumped into Darryl & Paul in their car up the climb after their early morning "gym session".
The first part of the climb before the 1st viewing point was great with smooth new tarmac only to be spoiled by "slow" descending coaches. The fog was pretty bad near the top and visibility was not ideal but we made it to the end. The ride through the nu-lit tunnel was a really surreal & scary moment indeed!

    Day 3 Monday
Another p*ss day of weather, but after a lot of he-hor-ing we eventually made it out for nearly everyone around 2ish to explore the nearby hills. From Pollenca to Lluc passing the monestry, we all climb as a group all the way up to the jubction of Sa Calobra but time was late so a quick descend back to PP were we formed a train with a group of English cyclist with some very expensive & posh bikes indeed.

    Day 4 Tuesday
At last the sun came out and the whole place change- the atmosphere & mood of the group transformed to one of frustrated hope to eager anticipation. An early start of 9am for the whole group of 15 set out to do a few "hills".
Pollenca - Campenet - Alaro - Orient (climb)- Bunyola (Cafe stop) - Soller (climb)- Puig Major (climb) - Lluc - Pollenca
What a hard & magnificent day of cycling, the climb & switch backs was hard but the descend was absolutely brilliant.
I never really like descending back here, but the smooth roads & the layout of it made me enjoyed the descending so much more, it really did put a bug smile on my face.

    Day 5 Wednesday
Sunshine again! We didn't all go out as one group today, some want to take it a did easier from the day before. So, Billy, Charlie, Al, Richard, Davie, Scott, Ritchie & myself went as a group heading towards Ritchie's must do list for this trip - Sa Calobra (he wanted to go because he saw Bradley Wiggins did it for his training)
Pollenca - Campenet - Caimari - Lluc (climb) - descend into Sa Calobra - (lunch) - ascent of Sa Calobra (climb) - Pollenca

    Day 6 Return to Glasgow

The trip for me has been brilliant, I have been trying to go to Majorca on 2 previous occasion but failed on both times due to volcanic ash & airline going bust. So, for me it was a long time coming & I thoroughly enjoy the whole trip even with the poor weather to start with. I would definetly go back again in the further, it has so much to offer us cyclist. The hotel we stayed in was fantastic with great facilities for everyone, but particularly cyclist!
On a separate not - Billy get some proper tyres & try to look where you're going, 7 punctures on this trip must be a record even by your own high standard!
Tom, I hope you get your bike & Rapha gear sorted after coming down on those slippery when wet lime stone roads!

Chaps, who is this "Allan M" indeed!

Well, he's a Johnstone Wheeler, he's a guy, his names Allan & his surname begin with M........ what else more can I say. Oh, he's a mate of Iain McGinty if that helps.

Mark, will be good to see you on Sunday & there's plenty of bale-out option in that route I think.

P.S Shouldn't the Sunday be the 7th instead of 6th as Billy posted. "Sat 5th Barmill"....... at least there's consistency!

Another good day on the saddle with 90 miles on my Garmin, good solid winter miles I think.

Good to see Jody back out again after a period of absent due to the new arrival of Wee Harry, well done & congratulations Jody!

P.S the cafe in West Kilbride was really good, another one in my list definitely.

Long range forecast is hinting at a dry but cold weekend. If not icy I suggest we tackle the Bowfield, the Barrmill bonds, top section of the Barmill Circuit, Sunnyside and Kilwinning. Thru the 3 Towns and rattle up the coast. Usual watering hole in Largs.

One point of order however, and I'm not having a moan before anyone takes the huff, just a gentle heads up. A Sunday run is just that - a Sunday run. It's not a Thursday evening eyeballs out everyman for himself ride. There is no point in splintering the bunch all over the road, you'd be as well going out solo for all the benefits of drafting you'll get. If you're feeling strong then ride more at the front but keep the pace steady, which doesn't necessarily mean pedestrian.

I don't see the point in guys getting shelled out the back with the best part of 30 miles still to go, it merely serves to weaken the bunch. No problem with the pace getting raised a little so long as we don't end up looking like an aircrash. Similarly, I have no problem with a bit of a dig in the last few miles or so as per Billy's suggestion to yesterdays run, but perhaps the last 10 miles where those who might get spat out are within reasonable distance of home. That said, there is a bit of an onus to work to get back on if you do become detatched. The bunch will ease up of course or send someone back for but you can't dawdle.

While I'm on my soap box, and I include myself in this 'cause I'm probably just as guilty, we do need to work on our bunch discipline. Usually we are pretty neat and tidy but at times yesterday we were all over the place - big gaps, half wheeling, riding 3 abreast cutting in too early, not holding the wheel in front. Its a crash waiting to happen guys. I think the anniversary of Tom's spill is a good time for a reminder of what can happen if you switch off. If you're not sure what to do ask, if you see someone make a mistake point it out - its the only way they'll learn. We need to communicate and pass info up and down the lines. At the front you really can't hear whats going on behind, the shouts coming forward need to be louder. I know this is all very boring but a necessary evil.

To save Billy's and my blushes we'll leave bike preparation and maintenance for another day.

    Paul,

I never intended to "undermine" anybody's run when I post a run which I want to do which do not involve heading towards the Ayrshire coast. I find it really boring & which I'm sure will see plenty of in the coming months, so I just want something different for the time being.

When I post a run, I don't expect a large crowd to turn up, I'm fine with just a few soul that come along. It's not as if I'm making people miss the "Main Bunch", am I?
The distance is not an issue here, I want to do some proper hills when I go out. I just don't fancy riding on the flats all the time, am I not allow to do that?

I never see the point in posting run so well in advance anyway, you don't need to plan that far ahead. It's not training, well at least not how I envisage club runs should be anyway. You have to see & adjust to what the weather throws at you when runs are posted, how can you tell what the weather is like in the next few weeks or months!
Also, people complain about no one posting run, but how can they if runs are posted so far in advance, it doesn't allow them opportunity to do so, do they?

So, Paul with due respect I think I'm entitle to post a run if I want to. If you fancy coming along then you're more than welcome to, if not then thats fine too. Please don't comment on whether I can or cannot do & I'll do likewise with any runs that's posted on the bunch.

Don't worry Paul, sooner or later you'll see me more & probably be sick of my face when the winter weather sets in.

    Chung
