Conlin
Any tips on roads/locations to work to do some hill work/repeats? Also as a newbie is this a good work out for cycling, I am just basing this training on running where is it very beneficial.
Richie Cross
I did 10 times up and down the Bowfield which was nice! I'm guessing it's for LBL?
Guest EPCC
Depends on the aim of the session . First question is what are you trying to improve, for example a strength session would be riding up the hill in a bigger gear ( harder) than you would normally for a long interval 4/5 minutes. Short term muscular endurance interval would be working very hard highest cadence for 1/2 minutes with limited recovery ( no more than 60 seconds ) so ther are other sessions if it's strength work the longer climbs like bowfield the braes langbank are good but STME look for shorter step hills or just use the steep parts of the longer hills Short and steep the wall at port Glasgow the one at Kilmalcolm Enjoy
2023 Subscriptions thejanullrichdietplan Posted January 22, 2015 2023 Subscriptions Report Share Posted January 22, 2015 Auchenlodment road (the braes side of Elderslie that goes past Windyhill Woods) is good - its not the biggest or hardest of hills but it is quiet and has a decent surface until just before the top, so makes the descending/recovery part easier. Richie Cross
For LBL, what seems best Billy? Think there are a mix of climbs?
2024 Subscriptions Darryl Gunson Posted January 22, 2015 2024 Subscriptions Report Share Posted January 22, 2015 Hi Guys There's a good wee circuit near me that I intend to use as training for LBL. As Iain said, up auchenlodment road out onto main road and descend past the car park. Turn left towards Fox Bar and onto Glen Patrick Road and then repeat. Anyone interested in trying this let me know. Cheers D
Richie Cross
Is there a route map...map my ride thingy? What's the miles per lap? For LBL, can we find a loop that has 3 or 4 decent hills then just do laps? I go along to Johnstone, back up Bowfield then round to Neilston and up Ferenze Road. 2 good climbs but probably too much in between each climb? Ian Porteous
Not exactly a hill repeat but would be quite similar to LBL in terms of the size of hills. brisbane glen, Haylie brae, Fairlie Moor (from sea level), Haylie brae reverse, brisbane glen reverse, winhill. Guest EPCC
Daryls circuit is not veryong so good for the repeats Iain think Brisbane glen and back over are a bit long but it would be a good Sunday Option Richie your route is also fine think the longest climb is 4.5 k any repeated circuit would be good Also we did a ride round to Kaimes 125 miles also good for distance in legs and lunch at the hotel
Guest EPCC
Richie The ten climbs are listed somewhere
2023 Subscriptions gregbalden Posted January 22, 2015 2023 Subscriptions Report Share Posted January 22, 2015 Richie. I found this, didn't mean much to me and also its scare mongering haha I'd rather just deal with them at the time!! http://www.cyclingstage.com/liege-bastogne-liege-2014/route-lbl-2014/
2023 Subscriptions gregbalden Posted January 22, 2015 2023 Subscriptions Report Share Posted January 22, 2015 From that I can work out ( I think ) longest hill length is 2.2 miles, the first 76 miles has one classified 'hill', but that strava section disagrees, then at the 76 mile marker the second hill begins. And from there they are on average every 7 miles, some only 2 miles between, some 10 miles between.
2023 Subscriptions gregbalden Posted January 22, 2015 2023 Subscriptions Report Share Posted January 22, 2015 Wait. I made a mistake, average of every 9ish miles between hill 2 and hill
2024 Subscriptions Darryl Gunson Posted January 22, 2015 2024 Subscriptions Report Share Posted January 22, 2015 Ritchie I'd say my circuit is about 4 miles with a long hill and a good descent. A few hours of that and you'll be cooked. But all the suggestions look ok to me. Intend to get into hilly mode in about a month. D
Conlin
Sorry guys, I'm a bit wet behind the ears, only been cycling for a year and will joining the club as soon as the weather picks up. I am doing Glasgow to London in 4 days at the end of April and hill repeats are to mix the training up a bit during the week so its really about building up muscle edurance. Also LBL? alexb
Liege Bastogne Liege. Belgium End of April. Very long. Very hilly. Cannae wait...
alexb
Also, in terms of hills. Old Greenock Road up past Gleddoch House, Finlaystone Road up into Kilmacolm, West Glen Road in reverse, turn onto Gallahill Road, which takes you back to Old Greenock Road. And repeat. 7.2 mile loop with 865 ft varied climbing.
Richie Cross
Sorry Paul....got my Paul L mixed up with Paul C!!! When you said hill repeats, I assumed it would have to be one of the LBL group. I mean, why else would you want to do them at this time of year!!! Sorry for sending your post off in a tangent!!
