Hi folks,

Often do you buy new cycling shoes? Is it only when the others are really worn?

I've had my Specialized S Works for 4 or 5 years now and was looking at the new S Works model.

My current shoes are still in good condition but I was thinking about a pre Italia shopping list! 8-)

Please tell me I really don't need a new pair of shoes!! :smash

or do I........ 8-)

Got to be a pair of blue Sidi Ergo II, Richardo. Expensive? yip. However, they are shoes and should by pass your good lady's radar default settings. Best cycling shoes I've ever had. As too how often, not very. Previous shoes were sidi techno - got 10 years out of them and I only binned them due the plastic panel which the mirco adjust fastener sat on gave up the ghost. Again, expensive at the time but got more than my money's worth. Go on you know you want to. Will look the part in Spagland too.

Got to be a pair of blue Sidi Ergo

+1.

And as Mark says you're going to Italy, after all. I've tried various shoes and Sidi are the only ones that work for me. They even do them in a choice of widths - top stuff.

I've been using Sidis for 20+ years.

My newest pair (2010 model) appeared to be made slightly small, as I had to go one european size bigger than normal, but they are still great for racing and for just going out for a big rides.

I actually still have my original 1991 Sidi mountain bike shoes, although after 10 years of continual use (including 5 MTB race seasons) they are somewhat tired, but get used on occasions for commuting.

Great shoes. Oh ya dancer !

My S Works are silver 8-)

I've always liked Sidi's but know Specialized are a good fit for my feet.

Are Sidi's wide/narrow?

Both!

Normal size, plus 'Mega' size for wider feet. Size guide here: http://www.sidicafe.co.uk/size-guide/

And here's a nice pair of silver ones: http://www.sidicafe.co.uk/sidi-genius-f ... 12038.html

What u need is a stout pair of Reg Harrs Cyclotouriste shoes. Black leather upper, black leather sole and a black leather heel. Will last u 75 years and your kids can have them resoled after you die. They look great when paired with a pair of Reg Harris Cyclotoriste black leather mitts & Reg Harris Cyclotouriste tweed plus fours. Carbon soles? It'll never catch on.

You might be onto something George.

In the meantime, from these

Current shoes

to these

New S Works

It's going into the unknown with Sidi.

I'm happy with the Specialized footbeds etc and they've been good for my knees.

Do Sidi's have insoles etc? Would I need to see my physio again so see what I needed? :-?

Ritchie,

I have a pair of Spez S Work Boa circa 2005 (still going strong) great shoes, very stiff & comfortable.

I then bought a pair of Sidi Ergo 2 a few years later, so I have both of these simultaneously, personally speaking the difference between the 2 is not a great deal.

However, the Sidi is a lot closer fitting than the Spez given there are both size 42, hence my 2nd pair of Sidi MTB shoes I opted for size 43 as I use this mainly during winter.

I think the Sidi feels marginally stiffer when on the bike, but for me the best part of the Sidi (apart from looking better) is the adjustable achilles tension which makes the shoes feel really secure but without being too tight.

Oh, Sidi offers more choice of colour as well. Get a pair of Blue ones to match your Joansin kit........sexy!

Happy Shopping!

Cheers

The time shoes I have purchased uses a foot pad that molds to your foot so you have to heat them up with a hair drier

Should be stiff as Carbon soles colors who cares you get them in red or white

Richie/All,

I have specialised boa shoes, have had em for 3yrs now and they are best I have ever had. I have always had sore feet & a dodgy left knee but these have all but alleviated these problems.

If you are hell bent on a new pair of shoes I would get a pair of silver Bont. If only to outpose Chung.

Chung, any truth in the rumour you are purchasing a pair of hiking boots so you can walk up all those Italian hills in comfort?

Bottom line is you need to know what is comfortable for you. Personal preference is Shimano cause I know exactly what fit I get for size 42. Don't be sidelined by by such earthly trivialities as colour, carbon or marketing charisma.

Only thing I would add is that white carbon soles make a serious difference (Shimano R099 - best shoes in the entire world - in case you are wondering)

No, well, not those ones from Morrisons, I mean Mavic.

Happened to pop into Dales the other day...er, as I was passing and lo and behold...they had the S Works shoes there.....funny being a Specialized dealer and all....and the bad man persuaded me to try them on.

Bish, bash, bosh.....hello Mr 15monthsinterestfreecreditcard Hello, beer !!

Could've got them cheaper on t'internet but I had my bike fit at Dales and with these soles being a wee

bit thinner than my current shoes, when the new ones come in they'll check my position and measurements etc

 true indeed.

Thing is, I really, really like this jacket

Mavic Inferno

Gets great reviews. Super toasty.

Yes, I should've bought it last October but it's coming down in price and jackets last me a good few winters.

Just can't help thinking of Morrisons though!

I'm lucky that no-one on the bunch rides would take the pi$h :-?

You could always cut the wee "M" labels off the zips and cuffs. :-)

I'll second what Paul McDonald said in the clothing order thread - for all the bother with sizing and seams, the club Windtex jackets are really good to wear. I was out yesterday with nothing but a woollen base layer under mine - still nice and toasty. Less than half the price of that Mavic jacket so less of a catastrophe should you be unfortunate enough to snag it on something. And there's the added bonus of being able to get it in JWCC colours!
