The Thirty Milers

I must declare a bit of self interest in this one, due to my lack of time on the bike this year, but is anyone else interested in starting up a Thirty Miler Bunch on a Sunday morning (9 o'clock start in Johnstone)

This would be specifically aimed at the following

- those starting out with the club who wish to learn and improve their fitness with others at a similar level

- those returning to the club who hope some day to be able to go out on a full club run again

- those restricted for time on a Sunday for whatever reason

- those who just want a bit of company on a Sunday morning

Limited to an approximate distance of 30miles, over a couple of hours, making use of the cycle track and fairly easy local roads. Routes planned a few days in advance (almost ;-) ) and an agreement to wait (within reason) at the top of the hills if we find any.

In time members of this group could feed into the Laughing Bunch and the larger / faster Club Run but the initial goal is to get riders up to a level that they are comfortable with and to attract new members who may otherwise be put off by higher speed, long distances, or full day excursions

The summer is nearing an end but there are still a few short term targets. The Braveheart Ride is the 27th October 2007 south of Kilmarnock. It's likely to be hilly but you don't have to do the full 44 miles. The event also has a 20 mile course which should be achieveable to those setting out.

Chances are there might even be a club weekend away round about October time. Arran has been the venue for the last few years with accomodation at the Lochranza Youth Hostel. This is a superb social weekend with riders of mixed abilities in the club.
