  1. hi guys, i'm keen on this one. i've not been out with the JW yet this year (another knee op), but have been cycling on ma tod (sad lonely old git that i am ) for the last 4 weeks. so should just about manage 40odd easy miles. i'll meet you all at the ferry around 9.30, if i don't show carry on without me though. yeehaa al
  2. hi sandy, the only difference is the slightly smaller frame size for reach, everything else is the same. the max distance between centre of the pedal and top seat is 91cm, so you can easily measure your inside leg to see if the bike will fit for leg length. the rest is really upto you having a wee go and seeing if it fits. ta al.
  3. hi folks, i've still got this bike sitting gathering dust...what a waste. anyone interested...it's a lovely bike? can even come/go a bit on the price. ta al.
  4. Big thanks from me too. brilliant day out and the first club run i've been on all year (i know, i know). i had a superb time. honestly think this has given me back my cycling mojo, which i must have lost during the winter....well you know how cold it got this year cu all soon, al.
  5. hi folks, yes i'll be there. big dave p will hopefully make it too. al.

    Don Smith 2010

hi guys, i'm coming along for my first ride on Sunday. only been out twice in last 5 months, so wimping out with the 26 mile route (which will still probably kill me anyway ). looking forward to seeing you all though. al.
  7. folks, wife's bike for sale. done 100 miles, so totally mint. cost £580. accept £400ono. lovely bike......unlike the wife size is XS. 42 cm size. link below has full spec and picture. only change was to 23mm tyres. http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-GB/bik ... 157/28824/ any questions, just ask. ta al.
  8. hi guys, 4 weeks into Knee Op recovery and allowed to cycle. however i am hating going to the gym, so was maybe gonna come along to Turbo session. fitness is cr@p, so am i allowed to do my session quietely, in the corner, and at a slow pace? i'm assuming you bring your own bike? ta al.
  9. i use the ones Alan has sent the link to. they work pretty well and you can never accidentally clip-in when you use the non clip-in side i went over Connick Hill and must admit i really liked the knowledge that i wasn't clipped-in on the descent into Balmaha. i'm not confident enough to be clipped in on really steep descents. downside - it is a slight pain having to spin the pedals to get the side you want, but guess there has to be some compromise. oh and HNY to everyone. al.
  10. Folks, I still have this single-speed for sale, cant bear the eBay hassle to sell it. I'm happy to let it go for any reasonable offer, its sitting around gathering dust. It will take mudguards, so if anyone is looking for a cheap winter-training/commuter bike then this will suit. Go on you know you want it Al.
  11. martin this sounds ace. i promise to make every effort to be there. my fitness is cr@p due to recurrring old Squash knee injury, but cycling is still on the cards. i have appt with Ross Hall knee guy (Brian Rooney) tomorrow, so will hopefully know what the problem is soon. will keep tabs on site for Sun start time. ta al. ps. sorry i never made Murdock to support you all, but i still had hangover from FRi night...yes i was that bad
  12. brill pics kenny....my pics are rubbish....i need a new camera. full praise to you all who took part, i must admit i really enjoyed watching you all tear round the track, kinda keen to give Murdock a go, although the off-road sections (to an offroad novice) looked a bit worrying. is Murdock flatter i wonder? and now understand the 'you will get lapped' statement...the boys at the front were flying along...gulp. Mike, i heard you got an injury, hope your okay. cu all this Sunday. al.
  13. A few months ago while on an easy off-road cycle with Martin and Chung....sorry Chung...... Martin convinced me that cyclocross is both fun/good for the fitness and an great way to keep fit over the winter. So i'm a defo for giving it a go this year. unfortunately i cant make Plean, but a defo for Auchentoshan. good luck to those who do Plean, i'm looking forward to the post race report already. al.
  14. Hi everyone, I normally do an event for Charity each year. 2007 was my first Triathlon. 2008 cycled France top2bottom. This year i decided to have a year off, but over the last few months I have been thinking of a decent challenge for 2010. I have kinda decided on trying to cycle from Cape Wrath (top West) down to Gretna, but do it in 48hours. Mileage is looking around the 450+ mark. This is obviously in the very early stages of organising. I haven't decided dates, logistics, etc. A couple of questions/thoughts have sprung to mind and I'm seeking the wisedom of the JW. 1. Is this possible or am I just dreaming that this could be done. 2. If 1 is yes, does anyone care to join me 3. If 1 is yes, does anyone care to help with the support/backup 4. Anything got any other comments/advice that might help, etc. Big thanks, Al.

kev, i'd quite like a wee run over Stewarton/Dunlop way, as i've not been there for a good few months. i'm not v familiar with the roads though so if you, or anyone else, has a good route i'm more than happy to follow. anyone else comin' oot to play
  16. folks, i am doing the Bealach in 2 weeks time so after struggling up the Loch Striven hill , i've decided i need a Compact. bike has just been fitted with new Shimano BB, so just need a semi-decent condition chainset. bike is 10sp with Ultegra front mech. anyone got anything? ta al.

    Sat 22nd

hi kev, yes i need a few hours this weekend and the only time i can manage is Sat morning. i need to be home for midday-ish so leaving around 9 would be ideal. meet at clubrooms at 9? al.
  18. did no-one go across the water then? martin did you and kev make it? Dave, Jim D and myself went across on Sat. what a lover easy wee run we had with Jim hangin on the back as best he could Jim, big thanks for waiting on Dave and I...........after every hill, on every slight incline, along the flats, and even downhill. hope we didn't put you off from ever going out with novices again. personally I have never ridden so fast, so far, in my whole life....or spent an entire run following the same person. just when i thought that i might take a wee turn on the front, to give you a short respite, we got to the Loch Striven hill and you sprinted...and i mean sprinted...up it.....that was me relegated to the back forever. amazing. here's to next weeks run.
  19. hi chung, i cant do Sunday this weekend, so for me, it needs to be Sat. sorry mate. big dave is a defo for joining me so i won't be 'billy nae mates' although would be good to get a few more. oh and Big Dave and I promise to keep the pace pretty sensible, you know us Bealach boys...super fast.....
  20. thinking of jumping on the ferry across to Dunoon. never done this before. does anyone know a good route and maybe care to join me? want to do around 60 miles when over there. is Tighnabruaich a good option? weather is looking pretty bad , but i need the miles for the Bealach in 3 weeks. al.

    Sunday 9th August

Was good to meet up with everyone at Largs and a good run back, although the pace along through Greenock and Port Glasgow killed Big Dave and I. Big Dave's HRM went off the scale and that was while sitting-in the bunch Sorry I never finished the run via Bishopton, my legs had given up so took the shortcut over the back road to Houston. Will be a defo for next Sunday as need the practice. Al.
  22. wow thats a long run. i did the same route but turned off at Faslane and came back across the 'military' road. kenny, is the Whistlefield road not dangerous on a bike as its very narrow/twisty? i'm up for a run so will be at clubrooms 9.15 ready for anything al.
