Darryl Gunson reacted to thejanullrichdietplan in Wednesday 22nd April 6pm Zwift ride - sticky draft ON
If there is a missing invite then if you go on the companion app then click ‘events’ then select the meetup tab it should show up events you have an invite too
Tagging @George too as this would have helped on Mondays ride

Much lol. My pm did not register at start so I began about 1 minute after first group. Was overtaken after 10 mins by fast guys. Then 20 minutes of full gas with Brookes(thanks) before I felt rain on my back and slid off rollers. The tubeless tyre punctured and sprayed me and roller with sealant creating real life skid hazard. That was a sign to give up. Very silly.

Darryl Gunson got a reaction from George in Friday 17 April 6.30 Zwift ride - Sticky draft ON
Another good ride today. First outing on new ‘smart trainer’. So far so good.
Alan, at least you’ve got your priorities in order.

Good ride although the map was a little bit busy in places so a little hard to make out where everyone was!

45 minute group ride, sticky draft on so no-one will be dropped for this. When the 45 minutes is up then if you want you can race to the KOM banner.
Remember to follow Johnstone Wheelers on the companion app if you want an invite
Before the event is due to start make sure you have opened up the game and can see your avatar and bike - you can ride about on any course or just sit waiting. When it is 5 minutes to the start of the meetup a dialogue box will appear on the bottom left of the screen - select that and it will take you to the start of the group ride.
The circuit is London Loop, i've tried to estimate the event time to mean the sticky draft will turn off about half way up Box Hill on the 2nd lap.

50 minute group ride, sticky draft on so no-one will be dropped for this. When the 50 minutes is up continue riding as a group, then when we get to the climb for the second time it is a race to the top should you want to do that.

Toiled really badly after getting gapped at the start, not sure why, maybe just a lack of watts. Anyway, threshold plus effort wasn't closing the gap, so just ground it out. Wrecked by the end.
Bring back the sticky draft.

Ian, why not have a big hill and give points for the first 5 up it then a big long flat bit with a sprint at the end of it with points for the first 5 there too? 😉

Sorry about the mix up with sticky draft, was playing about with the settings and while doing so i automatically joined the start pen so didnt want to edit anything incase it lost the meetup!
Anyway great effort by David and Karen getting back onto the front bunch by the top of the hill in the jungle....Billy tantalising close only 2 seconds back.
The bunch flows a bit more naturally without the sticky draft on, however its obviously not so good for keeping group together. So i’ll keep it on most of the time but maybe have a ride each week without it. Or perhaps do back to back shorter meetups - say 45 minute ride with it on then a 10 minute break then a 30 minute ride with it off.

Darryl Gunson reacted to Alan McLean in Zwift Renfrew bunch Tuesday 7th April 2020
I think the idea is that you have a flying start, already doing about 5w/kg as the gun goes! I am going to try tomorrow. Probably means I'll blow up even earlier. We shall look back on this thread and laugh.

Drop your Zwift profile by 10 kilos. Everyone else does 😉

Ta both. Will stick at pre-lockdown weight (ahem).
If I am dropped and meet another Wheeler I suggest we neutralise and try to cruise at 2.5-3w/kg for the duration. I have not yet tried "drafting".
I have to plan all this in advance because I cannot text in game. So sad that I have come to this level of nerdism.

Darryl, one suggestion is to rev up and hit the start super hard. Might be an April fool but I will give it a try.

I was with the group right up until the hour. After that I pedalled on to the top. Think I waved at you, Eric. 👋

I’ve no idea what I’m doing on Zwift, but 300+ watts sounds pretty good. I suppose you now have to ‘lose’ some weight 😅😅

I did a race before this then had a 10 min rest before starting the JWCC ride. That was hard though and some of you guys seem to be naturals on Zwift. Is there a secret to it? Especially noticeable on climbs.... 😂

Darryl Gunson got a reaction from AlanT in Monday 23 March 6.30pm Zwift club ride
Well, that was fun. First Zwift ride done. I have to admit I hadn’t a clue what I was doing! It seemed a bit quick to me- is that the normal pace for the social ride? My 60 min power was over 240 watts (whatever that means 🤪).
Also, I didn’t notice any effect drafting or downhill. I presume this is only with a smart trainer.
First impressions are that it’s fun, but I need to get the hang of it. At least in real bunch you can sit in if someone is smashing it!
When’s the next one😅

Paul is right about power meters. I was in a rush today and just threw my road bike with Stages pm on the rollers in front of smart TV. Worked fine. Did not get the resistance feedback on hills but just had to work harder to keep up.
Of course I fell off a couple of times trying to "corner" my avatar and I couldn't fiddle with my phone but otherwise great.
