A few of us will be riding the big coast route on Sunday. 9.30 at the club rooms. Route is: Bishopton, Gourock, Largs, Kilwinning, Barrhead, Hame. There will be a brief stop at Largs public toilets, but no cafe. Take enough food and drink for the whole ride, which is approx 85 miles. There are plenty of bailouts on the route if you don’t fancy the whole route. post up if you intend coming. cheers Darryl

Eric, You have a pm. Thanks Darryl

OK see you at the ferry.
-
See youse in the morning. Leaving 8.30 sharp to ensure we get the 9.30 ferry (allowing for the odd mechanical).
-
Colin - we will probably make it up on the day.

Hi folks a bunch is leaving the clubrooms at 8.30 sharp this Sunday, heading for the 9.30 ferry from Gourock to Hunter’s Quay. The route to the ferry will be on the track to the top of the Clune Brae. So, plenty of places to intercept us. Once over the water it will be a steady tour of some of the usual roads. Exact route can be decided on the day. Cheers Darryl

Wanted: Shimano 10 speed cassette 12x28
Darryl Gunson replied to Darryl Gunson's topic in Wheels'n'Deals - For Sale & Wanted
Hi Mark the 12-30 would be ideal. Happy to drive to pick up or meet in the middle of a bike ride. Or, if you’re anywhere near me at all I’m working at home these days! Cheers Darryl -

Very kind Paul but it needs to be a 28. It’s for Robbie - he’s riding with a 25 but needs something a wee bit lower. cheers Darryl -
Thanks for this information Billy, very helpful. I’m going to try for 7 days - probably Friday to Friday. Will know for sure in the next few weeks.

Yup. Excellent trip. I’ll be there. 5 days or more depending on work.

Don’t know how to do this, but if you do find out I’ll be very interested to learn how.

Beater bike required about 56cm
Darryl Gunson replied to duncan thomson's topic in Wheels'n'Deals - For Sale & Wanted
Hi Duncan I don’t have a full bike, but I do have a Kinesis Racelight frame, with bars, stem, bb, chainset, front mech longdrop brakes, seatpost and saddle, mudguards and a rack. Would need new h/s bearings, chain, wheels, tyres and tubes, and a cassette, shifters, Cables and possibly a few bits and bobs. used to be my winter/touring bike. size = tt 55cm. Pm if interested. -
I’ll see you tomorrow at 9.30.

Hi Mark In my view you should treat yourself to a new set of wheels. Plenty of good choices for your budget. It seems a lot of money for a rebuild (the Ksyrium rims are not standard so I suppose that explains it). Also, those rims are quite narrow compared with the fashion for wider rims. New wheels would allow you to take advantage of this new trend. Hunt wheels get a good press. Or you might try handbuilts from Wheelsmith, Cycleclinic, or possibly ZED wheels, all of which get good reviews.

Hi Ian I’ve got both. They are very good. SRAM is very smooth and quiet and you can cross chain all you like without having to trim the front mech. It is better than Shimano in this respect. IMO, Shimano is better at front shifting; it is a lighter action. But there isn’t much in it, as long as you keep them clean and well lubed. On a race bike this might be an issue. But on a Gravel bike, probably not. If you’re still undecided when I get back I’ll give you a shot on my Hurricane, which has SRAM Rival on it.

OK. I didn’t know that. Cheers.

Well done!

Hi All During Lockdown I’ve tried most of the various Apps - Tacxx, BigRingVR, RGT and Zwift. Only RGT allows uploading your own routes. But, for me it was a faff because you need 2 apps running and you need a subscription. So, rather than trying to replicate Arran, why not choose a course on Zwift and have a target time/effort to complete it? For example it could be a group ride with a leader who has calculated that to meet the target we will, say, ride at 3w/kg to keep things in order. Happy to get into it in a couple of weeks. Certainly could be something to consider for the winter.
