Not too good today guys I'm affraid

Franks efforts to drag us round to a respectable time were a bit scuppered thanks to the application of a couple of senic detours off course :angryfire and being asked each time he came through to ease off a bit :smash

Still I'am typing this while trying to console myself that it was the first event of a long season which can only get better  (if not there might be a Specialized Transition going for a song in Wheels and Deals  )

A couple of lessons were definetly learned today though so not all bad:

1. Time spent warming up is essential - the fast guys do this for a reason you know

2. Single speed training obviously works over the winter - Frank was flying 8-)

3. Just because a marshall is standing at a junction does not mean you should go that way :rockets

4. Bike set up is important ( I rekon if Frank had had this sorted I would have been blown to bits :!: )

5. Make sure your roof rack bike carrier is done up properly before setting off (now have dent in roof the size of a 105 pedal :angryfire

Ramsay and friend were doing this race also ;-) Hope you had a better time of it 8-)

Colin Hello, beer !!

Colin

the onus is always on the rider to know the route

but any marshall worth his salt will point and shout instructions.

Fixed wheel riding in winter helps riders learn to pedal and gives a good all round workout , its been around since black alpaca jackets and is just as relevant as it was then ;-)

Its far too early to make judgements , wait till the season gets going in May

Ahem........an exceptionally mediocre effort there time-wise but plenty of positives to take from the event.

Couple of minutes lost through satnav malfunction, coupled with Colin's refusal to use his deep-rimmed carbon wheels in the rain or wear a funny helmet  means we're definately-maybe potential future winners of the event.

Then again, probably not.

Seriously, it was a great experience and good to see such a large turnout.

Good effort Colin & Frank...like Kenny said still early days yet...I'm sure you guys will be up there competing if you iron out the small details.

The thing with short cuts is it's surpose to save you time, not increase it.

You obviously are not doing it right... ;-)

Cheers

Hey Chungster!

We obviously would have benefitted from your expertise in route-finding, right enough!

Actually it was really good event to participate in and Colin was a great partner to have. I'll never forget his opening advice that we should: "take it easy early on until we see how we feel".

" Okay. You best lead-off then", says I.

He then proceeded to hammer into a headwind at 25mph! Brilliant stuff.

And don't believe anything he says about his performance. I had all the kit whereas he went with a stripped down version of his tt bike and no aero helmet! And that does make a difference.

Roll on the next one.

Frank

Didn't get lost and did warm up, but still finished way down. :-?

Not that I'm making excuses, but my mate Dave had not been on a bike for four weeks due to other commitments and a cold for the last two weeks!??

The real moment of truth will be when there is no-one to hide behind!
