  1. Greenock road is due to be shut for the next month with the motorway exit / entry works so we will need to alter the chaingang route. Couple of options 1st - go along Georgetown as normal but at the Red Smiddy roundabout take Southbar road and head through Erskine. Downside of this is the road is likely to be busy with diverted traffic (i think there is often a queue to the Southbar roundabout at that time anyway) so may be difficult to avoid traffic related splits in the bunch. 2nd - Go through Houston and head along Barochan Road and go up the Monkey House climb. This should be a quieter route than the 1st but the downside is that it is harder with an added hill involved. There can be a brief rolling regroup at the top where the bunch will ease slightly. Renfrew bunch will probably take option 1 due to starting in Renfrew, so i suggest for next week (assuming the road is closed) we take option 2 and the guys that do both bunches can give their opinion on what will be the best for the following weeks.
  2. Well done to Marc winning the restricted gear TT Here are the times Marc - 27.31 Stuart - 28.54 Colin - 29.28 Scott - 31.50 Alan - 32.55 David - 35.55 Cable ties were too big so small ring was based on the honour system. On strava no-one has a suspiciously low cadence so it seems all the honourable and upstanding wheelers were doing the TT tonight. Chaingang must have had the cheats and rule benders
  3. yeah sounds good maybe an idea to have the clubrun over the Dukes this weekend too to cheer on Cedric who is doing the Sam Robinson? I'll post up a thread later when i find out the timings of that race.
  4. Had intended to ride but as it was my suggestion to replace the chainy - which hasnt been a successful idea in terms of attracting numbers - i'll timekeep instead and let those that want to ride have their chance.
  5. Sorry didnt see this before i posted the other thread
  6. Well done to Sam for stepping up to the challenge laid down by Marc in the previous 2 months. Now starting to dominate the KOMs and the sprints! June podium was 1. Sam - 40 points 2. Marc - 26 points 3. Galeb - 14 points It is the club restricted gear TT tomorrow night which is rescheduled from the spring - see the thread on the confined events section for more details. This TT is on a rolling course, on road bikes, no clip ons and skin suits. All chainy regulars are encouraged to race this event (non club members can ride as guests). If you don't want to ride then any help time keeping would be much appreciated. There will likely still be a group meeting at the bus stop for a bunch ride but no points.
  7. velotoze rather than a black sock....and further evidence (from Glens strava upload) suggests the owner of the leg may also have a Cervelo bike. The net is drawing in...
  8. Well done on the PB's, shaping up for a good attempt at the Georgetown Cup this year
  9. unlucky! hopefully weather is good for next week too
  10. Alan - Cedric is doing west highland way this weekend worth messaging him and could arrange a rendezvous on route. Can pass on his mobile number if you dont have it
  11. I think with a south east wind id go clockwise - you wont get the full benefit of the tailwind because the hills will shelter you a bit but id rather have a bit of a tailwind for the west coast than ride down there with a bit of a headwind! good luck
  12. Ive not got much idea what the results were tonight, my dreadful form means im too far back to see what is happening KOM 1. Sam 2/3 Marc and Galeb, dont know the order though 4. Alan Mcl 5. Paul Mcd Sprint...dont know Overall i think the roundabouts felt safer tonight with the guys on the front controlling the pace going into them.
  13. yeah can do the chain gang. The restricted gear TT will however serve as the prologue for the Tour de Chainy in July. (the TT times will be noted and instead of points for the Clune and Finish over the rest of July it will be bonus seconds....riders will then be classified by time rather than points). Hopefully that will incentivise turn out at this TT!
  14. It was my idea to have it instead of the chain gang that night. It's a one off due to the event being cancelled earlier in the season and the nature of the route (and it being restricted gear) meaning it is a roadman rather than tester sort of circuit. Will be good training if nothing else. There should also be time afterwards to fit in a bonus lap riding as a group
  15. Thanks to Martin and Alan for timing and holding up
  16. Driving like that would put you off wanting to cycle the road!
  17. We need to take a bit more care before the west ferry. Going through the roundabout and up the on ramp is not the final 300 metres in the Tour de France from Rivoli onto the Champs Elysees. If there is a car on the roundabout then the bunch should be stopping for it not riding through. However only 3 stopped tonight! The speed is such that if guys at the front had slammed on their brakes then others may go into the back of them so I can understand why it was (arguably) the safe choice to make by then but that to me suggests that on the final part of the downhill we should be easing slightly instead of trying to keep as much speed and momentum as possible for going up the drag. Same thing applies on the downhill before the Crosslee roundabout. You cannot see what is coming until it is too late. I'm as guilty as anyone for going fast through that if im on the front but i'm going to try and be more safety conscious from now on. Anyway what was the scores? Kom - i think Sam, Marc, Galeb then who? Sprint - Marc, Sam, Me, Billy, Galeb
