  1. Great to see some local names in there. A couple that I could give a hard time to back in 2011! If I had been fit, it would have been great to have raced against some of the countries best (even to be on the same start sheet would have been cool)!
  2. 20th June is it not? I'm hoping to get along for men' race after work. Not sure where I am going to park. Normally would have just ridden over, but.....
  3. Well done Alan. 4th in the Scottish Champs is excellent. Elaine was there as well, will let her give a race report (think she was 8th). Cheers, R
  4. 50 is free and 52 is due back around the end of the first week (need to confirm that!). 50 is in the club rooms, so feel free to try it out.
  5. The 3rd of the Chocolate series will be held on the Georgetown Road on Tuesday the 18th of June. All club members welcome, even if you are not eligible for the Chocolate trophy. Reminer for those that are unsure about what the Chocolate trophy is all about, please see here - http://www.johnstone...past-president/ Meet at 18:45, with first rider off at 19:00. Any volunteer for timekeeping?
  6. Congrats Alan. Well done. (Lots of dancing bananas, but not from a tablet computer!)
  7. And mine! 5months, 10 days and counting!! :-(

    Jim Daly

Can't believe it will be two years tomorrow since Jim passed away. It feels like no time at all since we were last riding round the coast or over the bridge together, or indeed sharing a coffee or driving to a race. He is still missed. I hope all that are out on their bikes this weekend take a moment to remember Jim. R
  10. Does anyone know much about hybrids? I have been asked by a family member about some advice on hybrids, but to be honest i don't know much. I hear that Boardman bikes are reasonable and having had a quick look they seem fine, but I don't really know. I may pop in to Dooleys to see what they have. Any thoughts would be great. Thanks, R
  11. Darryl, It wasn't the right turn at the cross roads that is the bad one. It was the one back round where you have a blind right then almost straight into a left. A few years ago James MacDonald nearly went over the bonnet of a van (he hit the wing mirror if I remember!). Agree that at the cross roads you will need to slow anyway, but from memory it is quite open. Thinks this is a link to the route - http://www.mapmyride.../view/222139939 5 laps? R
  12. Due to popular demand, it is proposed to run a confined APR on Thursday 13th June. It is proposed to meet at the road end into the Peesweep Scout Camp on the top of the Braes at 18:45 for a 19:00 start. Due to dangerous right turns, the circuit previously used at Peesweep is not advised and instead a straight should be taken at the cross roads (where we used to turn right) and join back on to the circuit. (I'll try and post the route from mapmyride later this week). The advantage of this reduced circuit is that if anyone is off the pace, they can get back on to a group far quicker. This is a confined training event and the idea would be to split into three or possibly four groups set off at agreed intervals for a set number of laps. While it would be the case of first across the line is the "winner", it is more about training and working well together as small groups. Please post below if you are going.
  13. After a great start to the Cholocate series, with lots of sun and many PBs, Tuesday the 11th of June sees the JWCC confined events back at the Georgetown for the second of the series.
  14. Martin, Yes. Kate McLaren has it and it is overdue. Can you please get parent/guardian to contact me, so I can send them disclaimer etc. R
  15. Mrs M was 4th in the Stirling tri yesterday, with a PB at sprint distance as well. Frustratingly only 6 seconds off 3rd (and the big prize money!). :banana :banana

    APRs

Ok, so it sounds like it may be a goer. Next question is what course. I much preferred Gateside to Peesweep, but as I'm not riding, then I don't have a vote.

    APRs

Lewis, There are none planned, but I'm more than happy to suggest a few dates and see if people can make it and are keen. We stopped doing them a few years ago because of a bit of a lack of interest, but at times a few years before that there were quite a few out every week. The "replacement" to the APR is now the Thursday chaingang, but I personnally think a confined APR was great fun and arguably better training. It would need to be on a Thursday, as all Tuesday's are full. There are certainly enough people racing and/or riding at a certain level that could make a decent training/confined APR. So - is anybody keen to have a bit of a change on a few Thursday nights? There are several courses that have been used, such as Peesweep or Gateside. Please post thoughts below. R
  20. Should be available to drive again. Just need to double check with Mrs M.
  21. Well done to all the riders tonight, the heavy shower didn't look fun to be riding in! The 2013 Frank Lauder 10mile TT champion is Alan Holmes! And successfully defending the ladies 10mile TT title was Carol Cowan! All the times are as follows: Alan Holmes - 22:10 Mike Ferguson - 22:58 Iain Cowden - 23:03 Iain Couttie (on his new steed!) (PB) - 23:36 Carol Cowan - 28:46 (PB) Dave - 29:02 Thanks to Jann, who actually ended up doing all the timekeeping, while I held up and carried spare tops! £21 collected for the club account (Iain Couttie also paid for last week). Cheers, R
