  1. A few pictures from tonights TT here http://www.flickr.com/photos/37563359@N ... 393488399/ Sorry about the last one but it's my justification for not riding tonight Colin.
  2. Alan, I' m up for this The more hills the merrier but you may have to wait a bit at the tops Meet you at Kilmacolm cross at 12.30 Saturday? Colin
  3. Great day out indeed. Kev and I completed another circuit of the race lap and saw the bunch a further 3 times. Bumped into Jim D after he had called it a day and headed off home. 80 miles for me and around 70 for Kev (the most he's managed in a day - well done mate). Posted the piccies on Flickr at http://www.flickr.com/photos/37563359@N02/ Enjoy. Colin
  4. Have just entered the 09 Radar Ride Have you entered Richard? Anyone else? Colin
  5. Kenny, I have a spare washing machine (that probably needs cleaned out) in my garage that you can have free gratis with one condition - when you pick it up can you take the wee fridge to John's? Colin
  6. Other than providing a description of the car there's not much I can tell them. Without the registration number there's not much they can do. I posted my message for the information of those of us who regularly use this section of road just incase an incident of a similar nature with a similar vehicle occurs. At least then there is a demonstratable history (probably not the first nor last time this nutter has done this type of thing). Cheers Colin
  7. DOH!!!!!!!! Confusion caused entirely by me I'm affraid Sorry Kenny won't be able to make it on Saturday At least it got a few more views for your post Colin
  8. Just as a wee warning to those who use the Georgetown for commuting, racing etc to watch out for a new shape VW Passat black taxi. I witnessed this car last night cutting up a commuter heading in the Houston direction at the end of the long straight. As far as I could see the cyclist did nothing other than be on the road. After cutting him up the taxi did a u-turn at the end of Reilly road and had another go as the cyclist passed. I had clocked this happening and pulled over into the adhoc layby just incase the cyclist was knocked off, however with a bit of wobbling he managed to stay upright. The taxi however sped off before I could get his registration. The after effects of the Bejing Olympics, where drivers certainly seemed to give cyclists more room, would appear to have worn off. What evidence do I have for this? How about the 3 experienced and competent Joansin riders who have been knocked off by cars in the last month. Keep safe Colin
  9. Kenny, I will definetly be along on Sunday Will get you at the football pitches on the North side of the bridge at 9am. Cheers Colin
  10. Kenny, I' am very tempted to join you (especially at a "very steady pace" ). I will confirm on Friday avo/Saturday morn if I will make it along. A wee suggestion for the route would be to avoid the dual carriageway from Dumbarton to Balloch by turning off the A82 onto Glasgow Road and going through the centre of Dumbarton, crossing under the 82 into Alexandria and taking the back road to Cameron House Hotel. This puts you back onto the 82 at the Arden roundabout and avoids the crazy fast traffic on the dual carriageway without adding any real extra miles. Just a thought . Colin

  13. Tony, None of the events I mentioned above clash with my racing calendar so would be up for all of them. If you still fancy it let me know which ones would suit. Anyone else interested??????? Colin
  14. Tony, Have had a brief look through your list and have noted below a couple that I might be interested in. Will have to check against my race calendar however I have been thinking about a couple of Sportive type rides a bit later in the season. The ones I might be interested in are: July 12th - Southern Uplands Sportive - http://www.pumpkinpartners.co.uk/10.html Aug 1st - Selkirk Road Sportive - http://www.gorebikewearsportives.com/selkirk.php Sep 6th - Cumberland Challenge - http://www.thecumberlandchallenge.co.uk/ Oct 31st - Braveheart Ride - http://www.braveheartcyclingfund.com/Ev ... =WhereWhen With a nice spread of about a month between each I'am pretty sure I could sell the idea of riding these to the Mrs with some quality family time in between Will check calendar and let you know for sure tomorrow on my plans. Cheers Colin
  15. Have just looked properly at your route proposal Tony. With the lumpy bits between Houston and Kilmacolm and then the High Greenock Road I think we would probably arrive in Greenock at about the same time as going through Bishopton. If an alternative is required due to time restrictions the better route might be to go from Johnstone through Brookfield and BOW to Kilmacolm and then down the Clune. Would certainaly be easier on my legs with the singlespeed Colin
  16. Singlespeed Colin says "I have a day pass" 19mph average for this route does seen a bit optomistic though, especially with the predicted winds being into our faces from Bishopton to West Kilbride (the majority of the ride ). Happy to follow suit no matter what the decision but will now have to meet at Miller Street instead of hitching on along the Georgetown incase Tony's alternative is the preffered option. It's all cool man Colin
  17. That's 3 so-far for 10am then Saw Jim at work on Thursday and the rumours are true about his ski'ing trip. Honest Jim I was going to go out at 10 even if you were there Now decisions decisions....... singlespeed or gears Colin
  18. Just a thought, on what Kenny said about Davie's favourite rides, but a fitting tribute might be to arrange a seperate ride during the summer around Arran and dedicate it to Davie's memory. Having re-read his posting from last year I would suggest that Davie was certainaly fond of this ride as are a lot of us. Perhaps entry fee's charged for such a ride and donated to the Jets funding may also be a fitting tribute given Davie's obvious enthusiasm for the project. As I say just a thought. Colin
  19. What sad news. Davie will be greatly missed on all counts.

    Leg Breaker

http://www.gorebikewearsportives.com/selkirk.php Anybody fancy a wee leg breaker on 1st August?????????
  21. I would second Jim's comments about the change of route however I would go further due to current roadworks on the route as listed below: 1. Roadworks in centre of Cardross with 1 lane shut and traffic lights in place 2. Roadworks between Cardross and Helensburgh (at the highest point) with 1 lane shut and traffic lights in place 4. Roadworks in centre of Helensburgh at Tesco garage to cross traffic lights (road closed) 3. Roadworks on road between top of Sinclair Street and R/bout at end of old Glen Fruin Road The road through and beyond Cardross is quite narrow and traffic travels along it at a high pace. A large group of cyclists may present a problem to a concentrated volume of traffic if caught at red lights. This section may be better rode in single file in smaller groups (up to four with a split created to allow traffic to cut in if required). The works in the centre of Helensburgh have shut the road however temptation may be there to cut through. Under no circumstances would I advise this as having tried this twice myself I have punctured both times. FOLLOW THE DIVERSION. You have been warned. The roaworks at the top of Sinclair Street are again on a narrow high paced section of road. My usual proposal would be to take the cycle path alongside this section of road however it currently has a layer of frozen snow along most of it. A better idea might be to continue through Rhu, past the peace camp at Faslane and turn right onto old Glen Fruin road (a steep climb to start with but traffic free and mostly clear of snow/ice). Hope this has not been too long winded but I thought it better to warn everybody. Cheers Colin. PS if I'am out it will be with the 0930 group. Have spent all week suffering as a result of pushing too hard to keep up with messers Daly and Mulholland while carring a heavy cold last week.
  22. Assuming I can shift this cold in time for a good pasting on Sunday I will be at the clubrooms at 10 . Geared bike for this run I think. Hills were a bit hard last week on the singlespeed but the extra distance and some of the drags might just finish me off this week . Colin
  23. Ramsay, Bike box definetly I took my mountain bike to Morzine a couple of years ago and when collecting it on the return journey at Glasgow airport it had a nice big rip down the side . Fortunately no damage to the bike itself but that was more due to good luck than good judgement. I then decided last year that the box was the way to go and how glad was I about that decision when, whilst sitting looking out of the plane window before departure from Glasgow, I clocked a baggage handler throwing my box back onto the luggage buggy (presumably it had fallen off ) The main downside of the box is the additional weight but in theory if you book it in with the airlines in advance you get a more favourable price. Not turned up at a check in desk yet though that had a record of the bike being booked in (even on a transfer flight with the same airline that I flew with earlier in the day ) If you are planning a trip in the near future let me know and you can borrow my box. BTW in your office on Monday avo so may see you then. Don't think I will make it out even for the 10am bunch on Sunday. Cheers Colin
  24. 2 tickets for me please Colin

    Sat 10th

I intend to be along on Saturday. Not too keen on the Renfra bunch idea (far better taking a kicking from people you know than those you don't LOL) but will go with the majority. Colin
