  1. Just woke up in Renfrew to icy streets. Be careful out there.
  2. A pleasure to be out with a Johnstone bunch for the first time in about 25 years? Good riding standard in the middle group and thoroughly enjoyable day. Ian C - I can make you beat the hour :-)
  3. Cheers. Coming from Renfrew. Will stick to the road :-) Came on at lochwinnoch last Saturday and managed as far as Howwood in 39 x 23 doing about 5mph. Few scary pant moments and don't yet know how I managed to stay upright? Seemed a good idea at the time :-)
  4. Good evening all - it's been a while! Am hoping to tag along with 0930 bunch tomorrow if that's ok? Anybody know if the condition of the track has improved from last weekend, or is it still ice hell?
  5. Hi, Can anybody confirm if this is going ahead please? Reason for asking is that a couple of the Northern Ireland guys (Marcus Christie and possibly THEE Michael Hutchinson) are looking for a training ride before the games TT on Thu 31st. Would they be welcomed as guest riders? Gordon Goldie
  6. Ernie's funeral will be held on Tuesday 12th February 1pm at St Andrews church in Port Glasgow and thereafter to Port Glasgow cemetery at 1.45.
  7. Good debate guys. It's pretty apalling that all of those other clubs have such little imagination and copied the JWCC kit. Other links to 80's / 90's kit pics; http://s95.photobucket.com/albums/l141/ ... img016.jpg http://s95.photobucket.com/albums/l141/ ... img018.jpg http://s95.photobucket.com/albums/l141/ ... img025.jpg http://s95.photobucket.com/albums/l141/ ... Weds10.jpg As an idea..............some fabulous kits have existed in the past by clubs nicking the design from pro teams and changing the wording. Examples..... Team Caledonia - pinched the Motorola colours Bonnyrigg CC - Classic Banesto jersey Liverpool Mercury - PDM (80's) Deeside and Inverclyde Velo had the same layout as a pro team (can't remember which one?) and just changed the colours. Where am I leading to with this? How about using this design; http://crave.cnet.co.uk/gadgets/team-gb ... -50007435/ And changing the colours to Royal Blue / White / Gold ???

  11. Frame, Fork, headset, seat post clamp, bottle cage bolts, gear cable adjusters. JWCC colourscheme - how can you possibly resist? Never raced, never crashed, usual wear and tear marks. 12. Read this thread with interest. Don't know Tom, but best wishes for a speedy recovery. I've been a First Aider for 25 years now. If looking for a light first aid kit for the bike , keep a clean roll of electrical tape inside a wee snap shut polly bag under your saddle. The sticky side of PVC electrical tape is sterile until opened. It can be used to hold wounds closed, make collar bone support slings, immobilise virtually anything and may even keep gobs shut if required :-) It's not much use on assos tights though............... All first aid is a temporary measure until professional help can be obtained. Just remember not to have the tape so tight that it limits blood flow? ps...................am also trained in helicopter fire fighting in case somebody gets too close to a burning helicopter when out on a Sunday run?
  13. Where do I begin...................... It's the first week in January. Unless you are peaking for the kilo at the World Cup this weekend, don't worry about it. I could think of 30 parameters that could easily differ from one test to another. There are many other ways of monitoring progress; resting heart rate, weight, endurance, VO2, power output and the most old fashioned of all - a time trial! Go back to basics - what are you trying to achieve? Better climbing, sprinting, endurance, lung capacity, short, middle or long distance TTs? Are you monitoring your personal training with a test that was generalised for 1,000 people? Try this and you won't be too far out....... January - just get out as much as the weather allows February - go a bit longer March - go a bit faster April - go shorter, but faster again with the odd longer run May - race time! Use a turbo to refine your race position. Ride your winter bike with the bars higher and the saddle slightly lower. Stretch a lot. Eat a healthy balanced diet. Forget gimmicks. Howzat?
  14. Use the thin end to unscrew your existing tyre valve, turn round and then screw the thick end on to your existing valve as you would screw a dust cap on. Attach pump onto thick end of valve extension and inflate. Once inflated, unscrew the extension and use the thin end again to tighten your tyre valve.
  15. Could do with finding out why it tripped Ian
  16. Ian, get Kenny S to give me a shout on facebook or give me a shout tomorrow after lunch on 07919 206818 about the sockets? Gordon
  17. Thought I spied a wheeler on the A82 this morning, but it was somebody from Lomond Roads. Was any form of protest put to WOSCA when LRCC all but copied the JWCC kit colours a couple of years ago? http://www.flickr.com/photos/15188780@N07/6013091684/
  18. George - have a look here, you may find a buyer for the frame? http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewfo ... 91e7cf8ccf
  19. Kenny - Graeme's ride was hand timed to 1/100th of a second, meaning that he slightly edged Iain. As both were experienced trackies, they knew that accurate hand timing to 1/100th of a second wasn't possible - and still isn't! They shared the trophy at the presentation (organised by me at the Lynnhurst I think?). Does the black book of confined events from that era still exist? Other press cuttings - I have a few, but only the ones with my name on them. Re the 1983 hill climb - I had a septic toe at the time and couldn't get my cycling shoe on, so had to ride with trainers and only toe straps, no toe clips as they were hitting my foot. The championship hill climb also ended the racing season and a "fun day" was held at the clubrooms afterwards. Other events in the afternoon included; the longest freewheel contest (start at the corner of John lang St / Miller St - Nicky Calder won and came down the slope, into the footy park and way down the bottom of the lane before falling off), speed judging (TT over the shoogly bridge, out to merchiston roundabout and back riding as close to your given speed as possible - I was third at 7.5mph. A really old bloke won it and arrived back only 2 seconds away from his time for 9mph), the welly wheech (who can throw welly the furthest into the football park whilst riding a bike past the gates) The day was rounded up with a polo match on road bikes, and everyone boggin! John Fitzpatrick and Mick Boyle were the chief photographers long before I spent many years filling the till of Klick Photopoint in Moss Street. They must have a few things in their archives?
  20. It is Elliston Hill. Course record was held jointly by Graeme "Grambo" Herd and Iain "Dud" Campbell. I think it's a 1:23 or 1:24? That would have been about 1988 or 1989? The start line has been the scene of many pulled wheels, crunched gears, a snapped chain or two and even Graham "The Nazi" Reid snapping a crank.
  21. What happened to your low pro with the 26" front wheel George?
