Applications now on Entrycentral. Organisers cannot confirm entry until all applications are in but I think it's still sensible to apply early.

 

Any more Wheelers interested? This is a very local event, if you're in the first (B) race you'll be finished by about 1230.

 

The first two races had excellent organisation andd marshalling. As well as lead cars and commisaire's cars we had several safety motorbikes ahead and behind with service vehicles as well.

Good to hear you're giving this one a go Alan. Whilst desperate to ride, I'm going to wait until nearer the closing date due to not having raced since March 1st and only having rode the bike intermittently since then.

Hope you can make the A race. You and Ramsay were climbing pretty fierce at Darvel. You won't lose that fitness quickly. Two weeks of training will top it up. :grin:

back from high altitude training camp- skiing with kids.

encouraged to go over small jump by wife only a couple of feet, turned into 10 foot drop off (the height seems to increase with each telling) My back wis sair afterwards and back on bike this morning was not pretty.

Hoping for some warmer weather for awaited increase in bike speed

anyway, long and short of it is have applied for round 3, what about the posse from gifford? Frank, Howie, Colin and Ramsey. I am happy to lead out the sprinters for first 100m :lol:

In a moment of madness and totally against my better judgement I have put my name into the lottery for the super 6 at Greenacres! :shock:

 

Anyone know the course? Would like to try and recce it this Saturday, as I'm either racing (TT) or away until the race.

 

It's only 40miles, how difficult can it be? :-?

Looks to be a cracking course right on our doorsetep. There is also only one junction where the riders do not have right of way to traffic (although there might be a few farmers shifting coos)

 

For those not planning on riding why not offer to marshall even if it's only one of the two races. Give Graeme Herd a call at Dooleys (889 6090) and offer your services. It's sure to be a great day out

must have been alarmed at my potential bounce back from Gifford snail's pace ride

As to race tyres, I drove round the course, it is pothole central.

I thought the Mulhooligan renrewshire day trip last month sought out all the bad roads in the area, well he missed this one.

The single track is awful, particularly the edges of the road. Maybe the cooncil will fill them in next week, aye right.

Definitely a Kenny Mac PAVE special Oh ya dancer !

4 cooncil teams will fill in 6k potholes in the next 20 days. £33 a hole. :shock:

 

I'm wondering if us pave specialists :grin: should consider non payment of council tax :uzi:uzi unless the cooncil agree to preserve some of the finest stretches for future Sunday runs, the way they had to in Roubaix.

Well spotted Martin.

 

White surveyors' marking paint is everywhere at the moment. I was wondering what was going on.

 

Good news that cooncil is totally re-laying the old A8 alongside the Audi garage. Also Renfrew-Inchinnan is covered with white marks. They've obviously taken my commute into account.

 

I can't believe I'm listing roadworks now. You've really got me started.......

almost 3 weeks of coughing like a 40 a day man

since wednesday: 2 days of D&V :shock:

can hardly climb stairs at present, so no race. :-x

Have still offered to marshall so will be cheering (more like coughing) in support for the first race.

So no lead out for the fast ones, who was I kidding...

I'm also not racing, as I hurt my knee last weekend. After most of last year off the bike with knee problems, I don't want to risk it.

 

Didn't think to offer to marshall, so by the time Graeme Herd asked if I was available my better half had organised things. :oops:

 

Looks like Alan and Frank will be the only JWCC in race B, with Jim in race A. Good luck guys.

If you'd like a report on the fight for first place don't read on.

 

Excellent organisation and venue again for the 3rd Super 6, right on our doorstep, but only JWCC rep in B race was me.

 

Grim weather forecast never materialised and it remained dry and warm.

 

Mr Herd set a really interesting course of two flavours: five miles of plain vanilla good road past Greenacres and heading back to Paisley, then three miles of chocolate chip, bumpy, gravel strewn farm road past Hartfield with nasty little hills and a few wheel eating potholes.

 

Everone, including me, ignored advice not to bring light wheels. Some had carbon hoops even in the B race.

 

Race was neutralised for the first 400 yards then went off like a rocket.

 

I reckoned the race would string out on the bumpy bit and that I needed to turn onto this section in the first ten to stand a chance of staying up front when we were spat out at the far end onto smooth road.

 

First part of the plan went well and I was about tenth on the sharp left hander to Hartfield. The bunch did indeed string out (it had to, seventy-five riders on a 1.5m wide ridable section) but I hadn't counted on suicide overtaking along the wee farm roads and I also lost a few places on the hills.

 

Net result, as feared, is that a big bunch rejoined the main road about 30 seconds ahead of me, reformed, and there was no way of getting back on.

 

After a mile of lonely, futile chasing I sat up,rested and waited for the next bunch of six which looked promising and soon swallowed me up. After a wee breather I started to work with a couple of guys but three or four would not come through. We got to within 20 seconds of a big bunch ahead but only three of us were doing any work. I even started to shout (a bit) but the guys were pretty tired and three of us left them behind.

 

Soon it was only Tommy Murray from Pedal Power, and I. We worked well together over three laps, just under the red line, reeling in six or seven tailenders. Even had time to exchange social niceties before, blam, he stuffed me in the sprint. Well done, pal.

 

22nd out of 74 starters.

 

Great tea and food in the curling club.

 

Stayed to watch first few laps of A race. Our Paul and Jim looked good but were up against fierce competition.

 

Thanks to Mike & Duncan who marshalled and also to Katrina Hair who was on registration.

 

Well done Graeme Herd at Dooley's for making it happen.

I'll get them back to you soon. Yesterday was a baptism of fire for me back racing after 2 months. On a similar theme to Alan - I knew what had to be done - my legs just wouldn't do it.
