You posted too late. sorry you couldn't join us.

Lovely ride down to Dalry with a tailwind. My trip was cut short when my rear rim overheated and failed coming down Fairlie Moor. Long walk down to the coast road. I caught the train home and still beat Mark, Duncan and Darryl who came back by Brisbane Glen and Whin.

Alan,

certainly made me look more closely at my rims although not sure if I would be able to pick out a rim that needs replacing.

So, how did you get on with your fixed bike for commuting instead...

nice and simple, with no gears to worry about?

Do tell

I blew up a rear rim the day before the Bealach whilst on skye , managed to ride home very slowly not using rear brake. The rim had worn down and cracked and it was only 10 year old

I think its due to modern brake blocks , they seem to pick up grit easier than old style blocks. On most Sunday runs you can hear the sound of grit grinding on rims as people brake . Its worth being a wee bit more vigilant when cleaning wheels.
