DavidC reacted to EricL in Covid19 update 23/09/2020
New message from Scottish Cycling 😷   We have now had it confirmed from sportscotland that as a result of yesterdays announcements, there is NO impact on organised sport.   The importance of organised sport complying with the SGB guidance has been reinforced, particularly with the regards to the following:   Encouraging all club members to download the Protect Scotland app - www.protect.scot Ensure that all clubs have in place at least one Covid-19 Coordinator, a Risk Assessment is in place, and a record of all attendees is kept for at least 21 days after an activity has taken place. Wider societal rules apply outside of the organised activity. Please continue to reinforce to club members the importance of adhering to this, considering the image that we portray if large groups are seen without physical distancing before and after activities
Please encourage all club members to ensure they have knowledge of what the guidance is, and ensure that they know who their club Covid-19 Coordinator is for the purposes of Test & Protect.
    JWCC - Covid19
I'd like to believe that most of you have read my previous Covid19 Updates and know what is expected from each of us, when JWCC is out on the road, pretty well by now.
Below is the link to our most up to date Scottish Cycling (SC) guidance, which hasn't changed recently, and would encourage every rider to take a little time to read through this so we can all understand what our personal responsibilities are when riding, congregating, and at café stops. Please plan accordingly for before, during and after each group ride.
My thanks go to each of the volunteer bunch ride co-ordinators to date for their part in taking the Test & Protect rider contact details for the club register and promptly sending these on to me.
As a reminder, any member intending to organise a JWCC bunch ride then please make sure you have fully read and understood the latest SC guidance document, confirm with all participants of their need to comply with the general societal rules, and forward the rider contact details, time of ride and any café stop locations  to me as soon as possible following completion of the ride. Ideally this will happen automatically and I won't have to chase folk up for these lists. Activities, bunch rides and gatherings posted in the name of JWCC on The Forum, club Facebook page and JWCC WhatsApp will qualify for the need to report. Details of all member riders and any guests are to be included - no exceptions.
Finally, If you are unsure of any aspect of the Covid guidance then please do ask for clarification rather than 'winging it'..... it is up to all of us to get this right! (and remember - no house parties! 😟)

DavidC reacted to EricL in Covid19 updated 11/09/2020
Following the guidance update from the Scottish Government yesterday (10/09/2020), Scottish Cycling has confirmed the latest position regarding cycling activity and all of our individual responsibilities before, during and after each activity.

The updated route-map clearly states - the changes to meeting socially do not apply to services or activities that are already exempt from these restrictions and have been permitted to open subject to their own guidance such as organised sport.   Scottish Cycling has had this confirmed this morning by sportscotland, so clubs can continue to run their activities in line with the previous guidance published on the 24th August.    The key points now which will be reinforced are:  The wider societal rules apply before and after club activity. Clubs must reinforce to members that this means a maximum of 6 people from 2 households, indoors and outdoors. This also applies to cafe stops, so please consider this when planning club activities.  It is more important than ever that sport demonstrates to the Scottish Government that we are committed to running our activities within the agreed guidance. At present, this means: All clubs should have appointed a Covid-19 Coordinator  This Covid-19 Coordinator should be known to Scottish Cycling  The Covid-19 Coordinator should have completed the mandatory sportscotland e-learning  and evidenced completion of this  The club should have risk assessed its activities and made members aware of any mitigating measures in place  Scottish Cycling has emphasised to sportscotland that this exemption to organised sport needs to be more clearly communicated by Government, to ensure that clubs are not confronted by members of the public, who may rightly think, that we are not complying with the government guidance.

Since the last committee meeting I am pleased to report that we have received an expression of willingness from club member George Donnelly to act as a ride captain to lead some JWCC small-sized bunch rides, compliant with the current Scottish Cycling guidance.
As the ride captain/leader George will brief those that turn up to ride, take their names and telephone contact details then submit those by email (to me as Club Covid19 Co-ordinator) shortly after completing the ride. This is for a 'track & trace' register. Club rooms will remain closed.
A reminder to all members to view and read the Scottish Cycling Covid19 Guidance document ‘The Way Forward’ to help understand and take personal responsibility in adhering to the requirements contained therein. The basic bunch ride principles remain - max 15 persons from max 5 households, 2m distancing, washed hands, no sharing of bikes or accessories etc.
I expect that any organised rides will be posted on The Forum in the usual manner however as the numbers able to attend will be limited please confirm your attendance in advance to assist the ride captain in their planning.
Finally, further to Alan McLean’s message, posted above by Charlie, if there are any other volunteer ride captains willing to step forward and encourage smaller group club rides, Covid19 guidance compliant, then please do get in touch.

DavidC reacted to George in Sunday 16/08/20
As we edge gradually back to semi-normality we are now allowed club runs, albeit in reduced group sizes and with safeguards in place.
The committee have given the ok for club rides to start up but only in groups of a maximum of 5. We can do multiple groups though, so long as we don’t mix.
With this in mind I propose the first ride to meet at 9:30am this Sunday outside the club rooms. It’ll be the bog standard ride to BB in Largs. The reason being it’s somewhere we are familiar with so less chance of any social distancing faux pas in the cafe. If all goes well we can do different routes each week.
If folk post up here to let me know they are coming I will call the BB to book a table as it’s reduced capacity and bound to be busy, going by the forecast.
anyone wishing to attend must give me their phone number so I can pass it on to Eric, our Covid officer. I will bring hand sanitizer which anyone is free to use but ideally you will  bring your own.
If someone has a mechanical they will have to fix it themselves due to 2 metre rule.
Finally, if you have a dry cough, have lost your sense of smell &/or taste or have a temperature PLEASE STAY AWAY!!!!

Many of you will already be aware of the updated guidance issued yesterday by Scottish Cycling on The Way Forward for the sport and club activities, the full document can be viewed here https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/zuvvi/media/Scottish_Cycling_The_Way_Forwardv7.pdf
For now it appears that a continuation of 'social' solo and small group rides remains the only realistic course of action - max adult bunch size will likely be 5 if all riders are from different households, still nothing indoors (i.e. use of clubroom), no events, no confined TT. Maintain 2m distancing and personal hygiene (hands, mouth & nose). To avoid need for ride register maybe best to let ‘informal’ ride groups form. Much of the SC document relates to club coaching, which we don’t do, and activities for U17 (Jets).
This document from Scottish Cycling is being regularly amended however it does follow guidance from and requires prior approval of the Scottish Government as each relaxation is announced. so we can expect further changes in the coming weeks.
In the meantime have a good read through and self manage accordingly as there continues to be no official JWCC event until further notice.

Aaaaand the good news is that the committee is considering a reduced programme of confined events starting from mid July, subject to guidance from SC/BC. The current view from that level is that club events won't be sanctioned until August. So, we can't say for certain right now when, or even if, a programme will take place, but the general principle will be that we will attempt to run the league of 10, the chocolate series, and the hilly TT series in a reduced format. Turn up, race go home. No holders. Results will be published when the timekeeper uploads them. Further updates to follow when more info becomes available.

Hi folks, just a quick update to let you know that I completed Lockdown CycLEJOG yesterday, cycling a total of 1,000.5 miles (indoors) in 10 days. Thanks very much for the Zwift Ride Ons (especially Alan T), to Fiona and Iain joining my ride, and Elaine for keeping me sane(ish😉). My JustGiving page is still active if you are interested in donating. Once I've, ahem, recovered a bit, I'll hopefully join you guys on Zwift soon. Stay safe and keep pedalling!

Hi Wheelers, I hope you and yours are all safe and well.
To raise funds for NHS Charities Together, I'm gonna do a Lockdown Cycle LEJOG, or "Lockdown CycLEJOG" as I'm calling it 😉. I'm gonna ride 1,000 miles starting tomorrow (01/05/20), mostly on my turbo (with some short daily outdoors rides) and am aiming to do it in 10 days. Would you be interested in sponsoring me? If so, the link to my JustGiving page is: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/lockdowncyclejog
As part of my daily miles, I'm going to have a daily 1-hour session on Zwift, from 5-6pm (hopefully this doesn't clash with the Club Zwift rides). Please feel free to join me, get in some miles and have a chat. My username (from what I can see 🙂) is K.Lockdown CycLEJOG.
Thanks for reading, and stay safe friends 🙂

Before the event is due to start make sure you have opened up the game and can see your avatar and bike - you can ride about on any course or just sit waiting. When it is 5 minutes to the start of the meetup a dialogue box will appear on the bottom left of the screen  - select that and it will take you to the start of the group ride.

The circuit is London Loop, i've tried to estimate the event time to mean the sticky draft will turn off about half way up Box Hill on the 2nd lap.

Had my first go on Zwift today. Ended up doing two races.
first race: despite selecting what I thought was an easier level everyone stormed off into the distance-I did 340w for first 2 mins and was still left for dead. Then got into a duel with a Canadian “dude” eventually dropped him and rolled in.
10 min rest and into next race: this was better. Got into a group that rode at a good power level for me & as race wore on I got confident enough to push on to catch other groups and move through them. Good fun but I was blowing a bit towards the end.
as my group got to the last 200 metres everyone shot past me. Very realistic....

Well, that was fun. First Zwift ride done. I have to admit I hadn’t a clue what I was doing! It seemed a bit quick to me- is that the normal pace for the social ride? My 60 min power was over 240 watts (whatever that means 🤪).
Also, I didn’t notice any effect drafting or downhill. I presume this is only with a smart trainer.
First impressions are that it’s fun, but I need to get the hang of it. At least in real bunch you can sit in if someone is smashing it!
