  1. Not going to be able to make it along this evening - anyway thanks for running the coaching sessions picked up some good cornering tips. And like i said last week if im out in the main bunch and you see me doing something wrong then happy to be corrected.
  2. Well done, looks like a great haul of strava trophies!
  3. Good ride and pretty lucky with the weather until the final half hour...the wrong turn up the dead end was a tough climb then after the descent 3 of us lost the bunch. Iain was short of time so he headed off for a shortened route and Davie and myself went to Largs over Fairley Moor via Swinlees, tough shift into the headwind. Arrived at the bagel basket before the bunch but after Alan T. After that onto Brisbane Glen, aided by a tail wind. As the descent started i was just thinking to myself that the last time i was on the old largs road a Paisley Velo rider who had been a bit in front had ended up in a ditch and got covered in mud. However by the time i had remembered this i was at the corner in question and overcooked it due to not being able to brake on the gravel on the road and straight onto the grass verge with Alan M following me - however we both managed to stop without coming off. Then we noticed Ian A hadnt been so lucky and had ended up in the ditch. Fortunately the mud provided a soft landing!
  4. Yeah good day out, only 101 miles for me so managed to keep it above 18
  5. will get the bunch at the bridge tomorrow
  6. Yeah good pace tonight Looking forward to the road finally being fixed, the little rise is much better now.
  7. Hope to make it How about going over the old Military road that is next to the Rest? It was resurfaced last year for when the main road is closed with landslides and it looks like a decent climb and will be quieter
  8. Well done all. On the subject of closed circuit venues in Scotland when the SCH velodrome was under construction im sure i read there was going to be an outdoor circuit there for racing and there seems to be a route (albeit quite narrow) going around the overflow carpark but ive never heard of it being used. Is there some issue about its use?
  9. Unfortunately doesnt look like we will have the numbers - will post again in a few weeks time see if there is more interest then
  10. Not feeling great today so going to have to give tonight a miss
  11. It seems like the Georgetown road is going to be closed next week (hopefully for the long awaited repairs) so was wondering if there was any interest in doing an APR on the Peesweep circuit as an alternative? Was enjoyable last year and was about 7 laps of the circuit. For those wondering what an APR involves - it is basically like a handicapped race with small groups set off at intervals. Sort of like the reliability rides in the winter with the fastest group going off last and trying to catch up to the group in front. Because of the seeding it is perhaps a gentler introduction to "race" training than the normal thursday night chaingang.
  12. Tough one today, particularly the lumpy 20 miles in the middle, then heavy rain after the cafe stop. Fed up getting soaked bring on the summer!
  13. Sounds a tough one. I reckon i'd be getting dropped on the climb out of Eaglesham before the actual start!
  14. Meant to say in the previous post - and i dont want this to sound like im complaining i mean it as a question rather than a moan - a couple of riders over the course of the series got the points required to upgrade to 3rd Cat and were then in the main race - it looks like quite a step up and they were struggling there. However some others also have the points and are now 3rd Cat (it even has this beside their name on the start sheet) but are still racing with the 4th Cat race and as you may guess are continuing to do pretty well. Is this allowed?
  15. Final one in the series, only the one 4th Cat race with both groups merged so a pretty big field. Managed to stay with the lead group, sometimes a bit too far back but was able to move up when needed and overall felt ok. On the final lap i realised i had made a mistake and should have made a move with 2 laps to go as it was going to be too difficult to get to the front however felt a top 10 was still possible and made a big effort to try and move up on the back straight. However someone crashed on the final corner and a couple of us had to break heavily and move round to avoid and lost a lot of ground and that was it. The riding this week was a bit sketchy - i dont mean the final corner crash as i didnt see what happened there but there were 2 other crashes earlier as a result of what was IMO reckless riding and a few close calls too. Maybe it has been like this every week and i am only noticing it now because im not hanging off the back on my own!
  16. Was 4 of us tonight with myself, Ian A, Andy and Alan. We rode it as a paceline rather than a chaingang and i think made good time considering the conditions - Wettest ive seen it on the West Ferry...and ive been soaked on the West Ferry a good few times! I took the short cut up the Clune the others followed 'rule 5' and went the long way. Despite the weather enjoyable and felt like a good work out.
  17. Cat 4 A race tonight, started off dry and then started raining heavy after 15 minutes which made things a bit sketchy in the corners. Pace was hard but felt ok in the bunch but as the race went on i was too far back and kept finding myself on the wrong side of people losing the wheel in front or going round the corners too cautiously and letting gaps develop as a result. I tried to get further up but it was hard to do when things were strung right out. A split happened late on with a 4 man break with a few seconds advantage then a split in the rest of the field into 2 big groups, naturally i was in the back group however managed to bridge (i think i was the only one) but it was the final lap so no chance of recovery and that was me nothing left in the tank so i ended up drifting off the back as pace quickened before the final corner and sprint. However major improvement on week 1 and 2 (last week was harder to judge if the improvement was only due to being in the B race) so feel like i am progressing however with the last race being this saturday its coming to an end just a bit soon!
  18. Thats great going Alan over a minute off last weeks time which was a PB too!
  19. Thats disappointing, wasnt able to make it this week but was hoping to get to the last one before the track closed for the summer
