  1. Hello,

So I'm organising a crit race at Bellahouston Park on the 1/10/16 with Glasgow University Cycling.

    BC link: https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/events/details/147980/Glasgow-University-Student-Crits

I'm currently really struggling to get a first aider within the university club, so I'd be really grateful if anyone here is a qualified first aider and free on Saturday 1/10?

Also the women's race is open to all women, not just students, and could really do with some more entries. So it would be really great if the women in the club could enter - there's loads of prizes available and it's not a difficult course to race on if you've never raced before, and it should be a really fun race.

    Thanks!

  2. So the BUCS track champs were in Manchester at the weekend. I'm pretty happy with how all my races went. Saturday the only event I was doing was individual pursuit, which due to a lack of time, they cut down form 3 to 2.5k. I was hoping to get a 4.10 for 3k, and ended up getting 3.31 for 2.5k which placed me 8th, so I think if I had held my pace for another two laps I should have got 4.11-12. Only first and second managed to go below 4 minutes this year with 3.57 and 3.58, and third and fourth got 4.05 and 4.10 in their medal rides over 3k. Sunday was team sprint and points. I hadn't practised team sprint in a few months so didn't know what to expect, but we rode a pb with 39.6 and qualified fourth which put us into the minor final. Sarah my team mate was then given some race wheels for the bronze ride off, however she pulled the rear, and we weren't given a restart so had to settle for fourth overall. Then onto the points race, only 40 laps, but the bunch seemed a bit nervous, and i think there was a few inexperienced riders. There was quickly a big crash taking out 5-7 girls, I think they were all fine after a while, and some rejoined the bunch. Then with 13 laps to go another two went down right in front of me on the banking. Once the race restarted I managed to get on a wheel and cross the line third, picking up 2 points and finishing 7th overall.

So overall I thought it was a good weekend of racing with a good number of Scottish riders picking up medals, and a particularly well contested women's sprint event, which for the first time went to 1/8 rounds rather than just finals. I just want to say thanks for the use of the club disc for the pursuit and team sprint, and for Billy's training plans and advice, and I'm looking forward to improving on these times and racing more throughout the year.

  3. Hi looking for a bit of help, was wondering who writes the risk assessments for the club? I need to write some for the university club, and could use some advice on writing cycling (and discipline) specific ones. Thanks

  4. Having a bit of a clear out.

    Handle bars and stems

Syncros RR1.5 420mm width, 80mm reach, 130mm drop, 31.8mm clamp area. Fitted onto a new bike, but wrong size so never be used. RRP £42.99, so looking for £20. I have the 40s on my bike now and they are a nice design.

Bontrager RC VR-S 360mm width, 70mm reach, 120mm drop, 31.8mm clamp area. From Hamish’s old bike, good condition, ideal from children’s road bike. £10.

Aerus Pista track handlebars, 420mm width, deep drop, 31.8mm clamp area. Leaving the black Zipp bar tape on. £10.

420mm wide road bars with 110mm stem (standard size). From my Carrera , can’t the stem off. £5.

ITM Luxe Road Stem 110mm length, 31.8mm clamp. £10.

    Saddles

2x Selle Italia X1 saddle, white. £8 each.

    Carrera saddle. £4.

    Others

Tektro road brakes. Well used but still work. £10.

Sunrace R80 Shifters. 8 speed, might be able to take 9 but can’t confirm. Shimano compatible. Lots of scrapes but still work. £10.

Plactic flat pedals, black, bit of grip but not enough for mtb. Free.

    Crivit spoke reflectors. Free.

36 and 34 road chain rings. Raced on for one season by Hamish so still wear left in them. Ideal for youth gearing. £10.

All prices open to negotiation, pictures on request. Located Bridge of Weir, but I’m in the city centre and west end 5 days a week if that’s easier.
