    Commuting

Definitely mudguards. A rack and a rack bag are more comfortable than a backpack - no need for panniers unless you want to do your shopping on the way home. I had 32 sets of traffic lights on my commute into Glasgow - wish they had disc brakes available for road bikes back then, rims took a pasting. A good solid lock, preferably with a chain or cable to go through the front wheel as well, is a must unless you've got a secure lockup inside the building. Good tyres too - I used Conti GP 4 Season (and still do). Nothing worse than a puncture on a cold, dark, wet morning.
  2. Sorry I couldn't make it - was in Center Parcs with the grandchildren. I'm supposed to be hunting Easter eggs in Bathgate this Sunday coming as well, so I'm hoping to do a longer run on Saturday (weather permitting) because Majorca is getting ever closer and the mileage is a lot lower than it should be due to crappy weather.
  3. I'm hoping to make the 09:00 run, but will probably do a shorter version of the run.
  4. I'll not be at Miller St for 09:00, but I may try to meet up with the 09:00 group at the bridge if I can get away. However, I've got family staying and planning to leave tomorrow, so it might be difficult to get a pass-out.
  5. Should be there for the 9:00 start, weather permitting.
  6. Hope to be there for a 9am start. But.... we've got grandkids staying, so don't wait for me if I'm not there on time.
  7. I don't record turbo rides on Strava . They're not real miles.
  8. Turbo tomorrow, then. Looked back at last year and I had done more than 200 miles more than I've done this year at the same stage. Mostly down to the weather. Her's hoping for a better week after tomorrow.
  9. Looks like another freezing Sunday early on, with a high probability of snow or rain. Think I'll have a turbo session at some point, rather than going out, especially since I had a week of little sleep and no exercise down in Liverpool. Hope for an improvement in the weather and see everybody on the 28th.
  10. I hope to be there. A short run will suit as we're off to Liverpool in the afternoon, for a week.
  11. Spin on, Dave. I'm loaded with the cold (but getting better), so would not have been out anyway. Training for Majorca starts this coming week, though, so keep spinning. I'll be out on the road this week for sure.
  12. Before I offer this on Freeserve, I thought I'd see if anyone was interested in a surplus computer that I need to get rid of. It's a Dell tower system with screen and additional speakers. I've wiped the system and reformatted the hard drive. All the CDs are available for the software that was originally installed and the system was working fine when I shut it down a few weeks ago. PM me if interested.
  13. I'm going to leave it until later in the day now.
  14. I'll be at Miller St for 9:30. Where we go will depend on who turns up, but I'm looking for a minimum of 40 miles.
  15. Good day for shorts then ...........................under a couple of pairs of tights. I will stop by the club at 09:30 to see if anybody else is foolhardy enough to go out - probably not heading out into the country, though, but into Glasgow on main roads for a run short enough to avoid icy roads and frozen toes.
  16. I booked hotel and flights separately. Also booked a bike now.
  17. Can't make it, unfortunately. I have to be in Bathgate on grandad duty.
  18. Ok, I'll leave it until later in the day.
  19. Can't make it tomorrow - got a family meal booked at lunch-time at Loch Lomond, so not enough time. Shame, since crisp cold Sunday mornings with no wind make for a good run.
