  1. Aye bad luck James......but glad to hear your relatively unscathed. Davie
  2. Camping trip cancelled due to cancellation of summer so unlikely to make it. Cross re-build also in jeopardy due to seized allen bolt adjuster on canti straddle cable so doubly unlikely. If you go Kenny enjoy yourself.
  3. Anybody heading out from the Valley - plan on cycling past Paddockholm just before 18:00hrs. Will go with the flow in terms of whether we do this or the "bunch". Davie
  4. Ben, It's to your credit that you offered to time keep and your bad luck that you picked last night to make your un-assisted debut, so no reason to feel bad about this. Next time pick a night where the rain is horizontal and for your penace you can aim for beating the "new" course record on your Butchers Bike. Would agree that I was surprised by an 18:15 as I thought I was nearer the 18:30 to 18:40 range - which like Phil is still a PB for me by miles and makes me happy since this was achieved after making a complete hash of clipping in and was baulked by traffic at the roundabout. I believe there is an award resting on this series so maybe the powers that be need to make a decision on removing the times from the records ???? Can we have some clarity as there is at least some doubt being cast. Also re. clipping in is it worth trying to promote the idea of getting a timekeepers assistant (when available) to hold the riders on the start line durnig these nights - just a thought!! Davie

  10. Nah still here..... too busy causing chaos on other threads to deal with my predictions Truth be told the laptop went on the blink and I couldn't post my predictions, I was going to ask for a concession but figure that the rules be the rules. Cracking finish to the stage yesterday so should be a good race. D
  11. If I'm still allowed to join in I'll come along. I promise I'll stay at the back with my mouth shut D
  12. TBTE surely not...if so you can give Billy the prize. I shoud have perhaps extracted my tongue ever so slightly from my cheek before posting my original response ...believe me it was the subject of some hilarity during todays ride amongst those involved last Thursday so no fisticuffs are on the cards It was meant to be Devils Advocate stuff not negative or abusive and by the looks of the later posts it's certainly done the trick. My last post was also in restrospect a tad flippant, I was replying to Billy after all, but in between I don't think I said anything out of order and basically extolled the ethos of looking after each other (the spirit of the bunch), working together to be more inclusive of differing abilities and applying a bit of common sense. The post has as intended opened up a debate which probably needed opened as number one priority for us all should be being able to go on a club ride have some fun, try and get fitter, faster (if you want to) and probably above all else for everybody to get back home safe and sound. All the best, Davie
  13. Apparantly I'm no' fast enough for the Fullarton so I'll be out. In the spirit of harmony I concur that weather does not look favourable for Dunoon. How about transmitter hill at brisk pace - no cafe stop. A mini challenge if you like. Club rooms at 09:00hrs ?? Mark - you meeting on track?
  14. For Foxes Glacier Mints! It's akin to the ruination of society...... if I say it, shout it, pepper it with obscenities it's a load of keich..... if it's on the internet it''s gospel. I'm away to join the Fullarton - heard they know what a pace line is
  15. My last word on this one before I fire up the barbie. I go along on this one to get a good workout and try and improve speed and stamina as well as improving bunch riding skills. I am not there to dawdle about. I made the point above that natural bunches should form on the road and this is how it should be - otherwise it just leads to frustration and the unsafe conditions mentioned above. Problem is with the style of riding last night natural bunches are not going to form as when any form of order is achieved and speed does increase it is invariably back to square one as somebody blasts off the front.
  16. Richie, Do not mean to scare anybody off. At the end of the day the bunch needs to regulate itself and look after each other. Another suggestion I made last night is we take this to quieter roads preferably a short circuit i.e. Barrmill, Peesweep and WORK on it together. I am not fussed either way but a meeting of minds, an understanding of what "the bunch" (somewhat more than a set of individuals!) is trying to achieve and the application of common sense would be appreciated. Mark, I believe the above now officially removes your heid from above the parapet D
  17. Not half - anymore riding like last night and we should be calling this the Brady Bunch whilst ensuring that no-one wears any JWCC colours to ensure the clubs reputation is not besmirched. I vented enough last night for everybody to know my opinion but being put in a position where I have no other option but to feather my brakes whilst riding in a bunch alongst the Westferry is quite frankly bonkers and an experience I have no wish to repeat. Not a racer but I think the principles are thus: > Stop the through and off until we can achieve a respectable pace line; > Stop the accelerations whilst coming through in the fast line, if required the pace can be increased gradually with everybody benefitting from a tow; > The guys "coming off" need to allow the guys coming through to pass - stop the half wheeling and get to the back!! > If there is a big group with mixed abilities I don't see an issue with 2 distinct groups forming as long as they work together; > If you want to see how fast you can batter it solo enter a time trial - I assure you Ben will beat you Have a nice day and hope to see you next week. D
  18. Mark, I plan to cycle along - my personal mobile is U/S so have lost your number. I will be loitering with or without intent at Paddockholm at 06:00 hrs as I fancy a gentle roll down to Crosslee. If needs must I am contactable on 07876 145673. When's the sun coming oot! D
  19. I'm up for it, the crowds and atmosphere look somewhere on a par with the Ronde particularly if wee Phil can continue being the master of the Ardenne. Could probably do another Euro trip into the bargain Fancy the Dolomites. D
  20. TT Contador; Menchov; Kreuziger
  21. Was planning to partake in the "fun" however it is now looking increasingly unlikely. If I'm there, I'm there ...if I'm no' I'm no'.
  22. Hopefully not too late : 1. Contador; 2. Scarponi; 3. Anton
