Good turnout for the 30 milers today, 14 in total and well done to the first time Sunday bunch riders and returners. The Dalgarven Mill is very cycle friendly and did well to cope with the influx of bodies at that early time. Offered to fill water bottles and and gave a free entrance to the museum. Got a soaking on the way home but still a good day out.
I can confirm that Alan Mac broke his chain at Morrisons and phoned his bike recovery vehicle (wife) to come and collect him.
    Thanks to everyone.

Good bunch on a good run with a good cafe stop. Mechanicals did not detract from the day, but I do not know how Alan got home. Comments have been noted and I will be fitting mudguards now.

That was a good ride this morning :-) Big bunch, lots of mechanical (well, mostly it was Alan's GMA73 :-)) a new cafe/museum for me .........

Thanks for the wheels today boys & girls, caught up with a few old faces & met some new ones ......... well done to Beth for digging in & got back to base in the end.

Thanks to David for posting the route, excellent choice!

I heard Alan had a snapped chain on the way home, hope all is well & you got back ok! I didn't see any chain tool or "quick links" etc in your tool bottle ........ could be a long walk home? :-)

A bit wet & filthy by the time I got home, but bagged 100km despite the sh"ty weather towards the end, pretty chuffed.

    Cheers

Good run today as mentioned above and not forgetting Ken joined us until up the Bowfield hill. Rest carried on to Dunlop Dairy where it it was the first time I have seen cheeseboards taken as a coffee stop. Thanks for the company guys and girls and hope for similar weather in weeks to come. San Miguel Injury reacted to EricL in Glasgow - Edinburgh...a big belter of a ride!
5.00 a.m. alarm, crawl out of bed quietly to get to Glasgow Green for 06.15 and a 06.45 start, sporting the JWCC blue and yellow colours, 115 miles (3 miles added due to missing a turn) and over 2,300 metres climbing later completed in 7 1/2 hours, tired and sore! First few miles up Stewarton Road thinned the riders out effectively, however from there all the way to Muirkirk and beyond a strong south-westerly head wind was in play, bit of a 'blow' having to pedal hard downhill! Up and over transmitter hill and several other impressive uphill challenges all unknown to me before today eventually destroyed the legs, a long solo day became as much a mental as physical battle. That said, the downhills are fast, too fast for me...oh yes, the sun shone brightly for much of the ride too! Well organised and signed, even with my self inflicted orienteering mishap, enough feed stations to bring to mind the saying "an eating contest with a bike ride attached'!

....Done it now, however to be honest unlikely to do it again.

A great day out, thanks for organising it Allan.

Good company, good food, a few hills and a stiff breeze. Nine of us went round the island and nearly all went up the Serpintine before a feed stop and the ferry back. The ferry diversion to Gourock added a bit of interest, as well as some miles for those with a car at Weymss Bay! I hope everyone got home OK.

Great day and thanks to Alan for organising. Even down to the ferry going to Gourock saved a few miles for some of us! ( sorry Gerard)

A great day out on a great island with some great members of  great cycle club.  A bit of a slog back to the car against the wind and then I took Beth back to Partick, getting home over two hours later than expected.  Beth is looking to get out more often so it looks like the Serpentine did not put her off.

Myself and a few others are, weather permitting, heading down to Bute for a pedal round the island on the 11th of September. A number of options to encourage as many as possible. So you can do 60-70, 40-50, 35 or the simple 22 Roon Bute.

Option 1- meet at Club Rooms at 0800- head up cycle path to Amarettoes, Bridge of Weir at 0815ish. From here head up cycle path to Port Glasgow and then across to Dougliehill Road to head down into Greenock following the B7054 to then pick up the A78 down to Weymss Bay. This could be the route back, but we may consider Clune Brae instead of the B788 Kilmacolm Road.

Option1 A-  is the route above but either bus/train back up or down ( I understand that the trains are off from Weymss Bay to Paisley that day, but a bus service will be in place instead)

Option 2- park at Weymss Bay £3 per day, or travel both ways by train(remember a bus is on instead) be there sharp to make sure you get parked. if it is a good day it will be busy.

We are heading for the 1015 ferry so you need to be down for 0945. All cyclists must access the ferry with the cars and you can get a ticket at the ticket office at the back of the car lines. tickets cost £6.10. They do claim that they may restrict bikes, but I have never known this to happen on this route.

We will meet at Guilford square at 1100- straight across from the ferry terminal in Rothesay.

Roon Bute- heading round the island clockwise to Kingarth Hotel, cutting off to head towards Scalpsie, onto the south side of Ettrick Bay and then down to the edge of Port Bannatyne.
Roon Bute A- for those happy with this, you will take a right turn and head back into Rothesay- 22miles
Roon Bute B- For those willing then head out to Rhubodach, turn at the end of the road at the ferry terminal and then head back into Rothesay.
"The sting in the tail"- then for all of us- the 'serpentine climb' with three options-
bottom to top with the decent round by the golf course- the tough one bottom to first old hotel and back down- lovely views bottom to third bend - easy peeesy 1400 ish- take in lunch at Harry Haws, with views over the castle and then head for 1600 boat.
Roon Bute has a couple of lumpy bits, but nothing excessive, Buteiful( do you like what I've done here!!!!) views across to Arran, Kintyre and Kyles of Bute. It's well worth it.
If I have missed any info out please contact me- any questions please message.
Team Cowan have already signed up, as have Ross Roberston, Joe newbie and Morna
So who else is up for this?
