  1. Are you able to assist? It would be greatly appreciated. Please post below

    1. We are looking for assistance on the Saturday and / or Sunday to drive the three routes to take note of roadworks or other diversions. In previous years we have split this into sections so that there was no need to drive all of the route
    2. One or two members required to man the sign-on desk. All sign on sheets will be provided. It's a case of making sure that all riders sign on on the morning as well as taking monies for those riders entering on the day
    3. Is there anyone who could stand in as replacement Organiser as I now need to be in Manchester that weekend? Duties would include reviewing Risk Assessment on day, briefing the riders, setting riders off in groups of 20 at designated times, being point of contact for any incidents

    All catering has been organised

  2. The 2016 Don Smith Memorial Ride, organised by Johnstone Wheelers Cycling Club, will take place on Sunday 6th March based at Lochbarr Services, Lochwinnoch

There will be three Rides as per previous years

Long Route 108km Setting off at 09:30am
Medium Route 72km Setting off at 10:00am
Short Route 42km Setting off at 10:30am

All proceeds from the Ride are split evenly between the Braveheart Cycling Fund and the Accord Hospice in Paisley

  3. Any volunteers to attend the CTT Organisers Workshop?

    --------

    Club Delegates

CTT  are organising a "Organisers Workshop" and CTT Scotland will be able to send 4 representatives from Scottish clubs who have affiliated to CTT.

Following the positive feedback from those who attended last year, another organisers’ workshop is to be held and will take place on Saturday 12 March 2016.  The venue will be Staverton Park, Daventry.  It’s a one day workshop and travelling expenses will be reimbursed to all delegates.  Refreshments will of course be provided on the day.  If delegates wish to travel to Staverton the day before, an evening meal and overnight accommodation on the Friday night, 11 March, will be provided.

All Districts are invited to send up to four delegates, who ideally should comprise a mixture of experienced and novice organisers.  Extra places may be available should four delegates not attend from any particular District.

Full details of the agenda will be provided nearer the time, although in general terms the purpose of the workshop is to provide an overview of event administration from start to finish.  There will be plenty of opportunity for general discussion so that the experience (and pitfalls?!) of some can be passed onto others.

If anyone from your club would like to attend the workshop can you please contact me as soon as possible as I am required to advise CTT before 20th February of the delegates who will attend

    Thanks very much.

    Bill McMillan    Secretary CTT Scotland

  4. It's not my intention to post updates for every event on the forum but, in order to point members in the right direction whilst this gets up and running

The first CTT event in Scotland will be the Velopreda 10 mile TT on the Westferry course on March 26th organised by Geoff Smith. This event is now live on the CTT online entry system and Geoff is keen to see the entries rolling in

    http://www.cyclingtimetrials.org.uk/event/21896

Can you advise your members that when entering an event on the CTT on line entry system when it asks for "district" they should use "National" for the time being until the system is changed to recognise Scotland.

    Thanks and regards

    Bill McMillan

    CTT Scotland secretary

  5. If there any of you who want to get your event onto the CTT online entry system the process that should be adopted will be as follows for this year only.

    Full name of club

Graeme or myself only will pass that information to CTT  and will acknowledge that we have done so

    Thanks and regards  Bill McMillan

  6. We have received confirmation today that our affiliation to Cycling Time Trials (CTT) has been accepted through the Scottish District

Iain Couttie and Paul Leavy are the nominated Delegates from JWCC to the District

The following (received from CTT Scotland 21st January '16) should help answer some queries that you may have relating to affiliation to CTT.

    ---

    Questions you may ask:

    1.  If my club affiliates to CTT, does it affect my club’s relationship with SC/BC?

No, clubs can be affiliated to both organisations as most of the clubs in England and Wales are.

    2.  If my club affiliates to CTT can I ride in SC events?

Yes, as long as you fulfill the membership requirements of SC.

    3.  If my club affiliates to CTT do I need to buy a CTT licence to race in CTT events?

No, there is no race licence required by CTT.  Once your club affiliates to CTT all the members of the club can enter CTT events, but you must be a paid up member of your club.

    4.  What does the CTT insurance cover?

The CTT third party insurance covers competitors, race organisers and those involved with the running of the event against claims by third parties.  It also covers accidents during CTT events where a competitor against another competitor claim is received.

CTT recommends that all competitors should have their own personal third party insurance either through membership of a national cycling organisation, a commercial source or as part of their household insurance.

    5.  If I race in CTT events will SC revoke my or my club’s membership of SC?

No, you can race in SC events, TLI events and LVRC events without a problem as long as you are eligible to race in these events.  The norm in the rest of the UK is that CTT run time trials and BC run other events.

    6.  How much does it cost to join CTT?

Each club affiliation costs £30 or £80 if the club jersey has any commercial names or advertising on the jersey, after which the only cost is the rider’s race entry fee.

    7.  If my club promotes an event under CTT how much of the entry fee is paid to CTT?

Current levy per rider is £2. Time Trial Series £5, RTTC National Champs., £10.

    8.  How much does it cost to enter a CTT event?

Entry fees vary but are generally about £8 per rider. eg for an ITT £8 for a 3Up TTT £24.

    9.  Will CTT use the same courses that SC traditionally used and are dead turns allowed?

Yes, the CTT Scotland calendar is being constructed to avoid clashes with SC events.

CTT’s policy in the 1990s was not to sanction new courses that required a dead turn in the road.  That however was in the days before CTT introduced the strict requirement that all courses (both those used for open and for club events) MUST have a risk assessment.  The CTT insurers say that they are happy to leave CTT to manage its risk, and for so long as the claims record remains good that is expected to remain the case.  As such, provided that a full and proper risk assessment is carried out, and it is considered safe to have a dead turn, then this shouldn’t be a problem.

    10.  Will Scottish riders be eligible to ride events which qualify for the BBAR?

    Yes, subject to performance criteria.

    11.  If my club runs an event, will it be the same as running an event under SC?

Very similar, with timekeepers, marshals, warning signs, direction signs, a risk assessment for the course with an on day update.  One main difference is that CTT do not use commissaires but they do use "Observers" who will report irregular riding to the organiser, eg pacing or any other infringement of the rules by competitors.  Observers are simply experienced racing cyclists. The organiser is responsible for reporting accidents, minor or serious, to the National Secretary (Legal & Corporate). There is a specific form for this purpose.

    12.  If my Club does not affiliate to CTT, can I still ride CTT Events?

Yes, but you will be required to join the “West of Scotland TT League Club” the fee is £20 each year.  If your club subsequently affiliates to CTT £15 would be refunded. Therefore, if only two riders from a club wished to compete in CTT events it would be worthwhile for the club to affiliate to CTT.

    13.  How do I enter a CTT event?

Either on line or by CTT official entry form.

If you require any other information on CTT go to www.cyclingtimetrials.org.uk

  7. When we left Renfrew the bunch was 10 wheelers and jets! Were quickly joined by about 8 others. Puncture before Bishopton was quickly fixed. Heavy snow after Bishopton and was actually lying on the Westferry so we headed up clune in abandon mission mode. Second puncture near top and whilst fixing that one the snow eased a bit so we decided to rule 5 it. Lucia and Charlie headed back as Charlie's front tyre was looking very unreliable. Headed up spango and single lined it at a steady 24/25 mph to Largs. James, Andy G, me, Iain A and Robbie present in bunch, Jan and Alan had made a strategic decision to turn back at Greenock, someone was rude enough to suggest they brikked it :)

Jim and Lynsey joined us at Largs, James manly headed up Heely on his tod and Andy stayed in the single line train to his warm inviting house in W Kilbride. Thereafter it became a survival game with heavy snow after Ardrossan. Chapeau to Jim, Lynsey, Gregg, Scott, Richie, Robbie and Iain for making it to Barrhead. I was tail end Charlie (no pun intended m'lud) after Kilwinning drag due to lack of fitness.

One that will not be forgotten in a hurry.

Lusia and Charlie safely back. They headed to the top of the Clune after the 2nd puncture stop but, seeing the snow, decided that discretion was the better part of valour and headed straight back down again and took the Old Greenock Road and the Gunpowder back to Bishopton.

Who said chivalry was dead, Lusia swapped wheels with Charlie to make sure he got back to Paisley and headed for home

Charlie made it home in time to get to Dooley's for purchase of new rubber

Tough morning. All I did was drive to Dunblane and back :-)

  8. Thinking of selling a Powertap SL+ which is built into a Mavic Open Pro rim and will come with a Mavic (Aksion?) tyre which has seen some slight use

Would come complete with 2.4 pro SL head unit and two handlebar mounts

This is not ANT+ compatible in terms of Garmin ANT+ computers but will work with Garmin ANT+ Heart Rate monitor

Shimano 8/9/10 speed compatible hub (the afflicted can source Campag free hub bodies for approx £50)

Ideal training tool in very good condition

I currently have it working with PowerAgent software but import to Training Peaks, etc at your leisure

    £265.00

  9. Can all Members of the Forum please pay particular attention when they receive notifications of received Private Messages by email

Do not reply to the email notification as this will send a copy of the contents of the personal message from your email account to the The Bunch v2.0 which is actually the [email protected] email account

There is a warning at the foot of the notification email with a link back to the PM function

This was brought to my attention this evening and those affected have been notified

  10. I can add some general info to this

Sessions will be on a Sunday evening from 5-7 and/or 7-9. Some weeks will have one session and others will have two sessions depending on track availability (Scottish Cycling and British Cycling have track time on Sundays which can be until 7pm some weeks)

Each club will be expected to provide their own accredited track coach. Glasgow Life coaches will not be available

The coach will have full responsibly for the session, including the booking of it

Track bikes will be available for hire from the Hire Station

Session will be open to accredited and non-accrediated riders (depends how the coach wants to runs it)

Session will be open to Youth and Senior rider (depends how the coach wants to runs it)

Estimated cost is approx £260 for the 2hr session (not sure if this includes bike hire)

Details on all of the above will be released imminently by Glasgow Life. Sessions expected to start in the New Year and will be on a  first come first served basis. If there is information missing when making the booking then the booking will go to the next club in line so all paperwork, incl First Aid certification, BC membership, Coach Certification, etc... will need to be spot-on

** Information subject to change ;-)

  11. Hi,

My name is Jack Stafford, and I'm helping organise a trip for a selection of UK cyclists to southern Italy this September 19th-26th for some cycling in the Autumn sun. I was wondering if any of your club members may be interested?

Prices start at £40 per day for full-board at a seafront hotel. Daily guided rides are organised throught the Cilento region to explore both the flat coastal roads through idyllic southern Italian villages, as well as more challenging hilly routes to mountain passes nearing 2,000m just 35 km in from the coast!

There's plenty more info available on the website, www.cyclecilento.com, and as always I'm happy to answer any questions you may have, so please don't hesitate to get in touch.

If you were willing to share this out on the club facebook page, that would be very much appreciated.

    http://cyclecilento.com/

    Many Thanks,

    Jack
