  1. To paraphrase Mark Twain, rumours of the recent demise of the main bunch Sunday runs, are a bit exaggerated! A good size bunch left the club for Largs via Brisbane Glen. After a brief stop we headed to West Kilbride, Dalry, Barmill, and home. It was left to the hardcore to go for a couple of light refreshments in Howood, with the rest pleading time constraints, family duties, and other excuses 😅

if you don’t believe me, the images below quite clearly show a bunch of cyclists hanging around the public lavatories in Largs 😀

  2. Hi Billy

It is true that the long Sunday runs we used to do don’t seem as popular these days. All sorts of possible explanations for this.
But, I think it’s premature to sound the death knell of the Sunday Run just yet. After all, people are going out on their bikes every Sunday. Yesterday we had a great ride with a coffee stop. The lowest distance for riders was probably me with about 85k with others doing nearer 100k and Matt doing 160 +. Not quite the numbers of yesteryear perhaps but still a nice run.

I’m sure there will be plenty of nice Sunday runs as the weather gets warmer.

  3. Many thanks and congratulations to all who turned out today. Turned out to be quite a challenging circuit, especially with the wind.
We had 4 groups, but pretty soon there was a natural order established 😀with riders all around the course in wee groups.
Big congratulations to the scratch group who flew by everyone.

Thanks also to our resident paparazzo- Iain McTavish - for some excellent photos.

All in all I think that was quite good. Just need better legs 😅

I propose we stick to this circuit for the next one in 2 weeks time.

I’ll have a rethink about the time gaps- especially to the scratch group 😀.

    Cheers

  4. Final reminder about the APR training ride tomorrow. 9.30 at the clubrooms, heading down the track to Howood (if anyone wants to meet on the way).

The more riders we get better we can fine-tune the composition of the groups so that everyone gets a ride with people of similar ability, which should mean a nice workout.

Distance is somewhere between 23 and 28 miles, depending on what folks are up for.

Time gaps will be generous to give all groups a sporting chance.

If any of you feel the distance is not enough, then the option is to do as the pros do and do an extra hour or more😅

Hope to see some of you tomorrow.

    Cheers

  5. Hi folks

Just a quick reminder for This Saturday.

As part of our revised JWCC confined events calendar, in consultation with members, we will be holding a few informal APR training sessions through April, May and possibly June. The idea is quite straight forwards in that this is a format for people to have a good ‘work out’ with riders of a similar ability, in a ‘race-like’ format. For those who do not know what APR means, it stands for Australian Pursuit Race, which is a handicapped event with groups going off at timed intervals.

The circuit will be around Barmill. On the dates below we will meet at 9.30, at the club rooms, and ride over to the circuit. We will ride a lap of the circuit together and then we will set the groups off. I’m thinking 2 or 3 laps

We want these events to be for everyone. It does not matter how fit or unfit you are as we will place you in an appropriate group based on age, fitness and or ability. The APR format is ideal. I encourage all members, young and old, to get involved. Hardened racers, fast guys can get a good workout in the scratch group, and those relatively new to all this can experience some of the buzz of working together in a group (a breakaway 😄) with others of similar ability. It should be fun.

We hope to see some of you there

    April 9th, 23rd

    May 7th, 21st

    June: tbc

    Regards

    Darryl
