Personally I felt that it was safer starting at Port Glasgow. It means that you do not have to cross over onto the fast lane to turn at the newarc roundabout. The Newarc roundabout is fine if you hit it lucky and there is no traffic behind you, however if you're unlucky the cars approach probably doing over 70mph and even after breaking areentering the roundabout, I'd guess at roundabout 40mph. at those speeds and a setting sun in the drivers eyes, you'd have no chance. (it was frightening watching the cars approach it whilst timekeeping) The Bishopton roundabout turn isn't perfect, but if you go down the sliproad on the inside, keeping this position till the roundabout, you will have a decent view (not perfect, I admit) of oncoming trafic and at worse have the option to keep to the outside of the roundabout and break if there is a car. Also the cars are travelling much slower giving both the driver and the cyclist half a chance. It was good at the club champs having Campbell at the turn, maybe if numbers permitted we could have a marshal?

Rides of Note are those of David Raymond who went nearly 2 mins faster this week in similar conditions to last and a great ride from "Howie" returning after what sounded like an Awesome tour of Ireland........ Frank was also on for a cracking time however he had to stop after his chain came off, which I'm sure must have lost him quite a bit of time. Next week is the JWCC club championship, Katrina has volunteered to do the timing, so lets have a big turn out for the first of this years trophy events.

A tough night with quite a strong head wind on the way out. 1st fastest on the night was Stevie Blom. The competition between the JWCC was very close with only a few seconds separating the first three 1st JWCC rider was Frank riding a WOW bike and recording a 24.24 2nd JWCC rider was Seb, just back from a long training session in Israel and recording a 24.36 3rd JWCC rider was Colin, who said that he even had time to stop for a drum up, but was held up when the matches wouldn’t light recorded a 24.49 All the times Mike 25.44 Dave 31.08 Stevie 22.54 Seb 24.36 Frank 24.24 John 32.48 Greg 29.10 Colin 24.49 Ian 26.10 We are looking for a volunteer for timekeeping next week. Katrina has said that she will timekeep at the Frank Lauder, so there is no excuse for not riding…(I’m not sure if that was aimed at all of us or just me)

I've just had a hard long weekend of climbing on Skye, so my legs are pretty gubbed, so I'll volunteer to do the time keeping tonight. A brilliant night to kick things off, Quiet hot and sticky, a slight head wind on the way out and a slight tail wind on the way back. Starting at the Newark roundabout end seemed strange especially at the turn where it felt like we should be stopping. what an awesome ride from the Mullholanders, absolutely amazing

Myself a Campbell reorded a post cruise time of 17.15.......... Ian Manson was trying in vain to loose everything last night Vicky's licence, £25 in cash (heart breaking for an accountant)..... fortunately all were returned....... If the Licence and money wasn't bad enough, He and Jim were given a time of 17.59 which I'm sure was due to them loosing a minute somewhere and their actual time was a 16.59.

Sorry Vicky, Campbell is back from his cruise and has asked if I'm still doing it with him......... I'm not sure I'd be able to keep up with you anyway, there was blood and guts streaming from me last week whilst you looked as if you'd hardly broke sweat. It's frightening to think how fast you'll be going in your new stead...

Kenny, George Cowan did the timekeeping, I'm not sure if anyone took a note of all the times from him....... to make things a little easier, due to the numbers he didn't shout names, just numbers, which seemed pretty fair. Myself and Vicky were team no. 15 and we did a 15.35........ well we would have done if we hadn't been held up by a car on the way out, so ended up recording a 17.20.

My wife dropped me by getting fat!!! (Sorry dear I meant Pregnant), my mate has dropped me by prefering a med cruise to riding the Georgetown. I'm now known as George Nae mates........ I'll gladly ride the 2-up with anyone. The 2 -ups are difficult since it's always hard to either get two riders of the same ability or 2 riders who know their strengths and weekness. Myself and Campbell had troubles at the begining since I tend to be a little faster than he is. I kept pulling away meaning I had to slow and he was constantly playing catch up. after our first attempts we agreed that I should take longer spells, whilst he perfected following my wheel, a skill in its self, enabling him to take a spell when it was needed most. It has worked pretty well for us and we tend to work as a pretty good team. My advice would be to stick at it and work on those strengths. Frank and Jim, If you do decide to try again together, don't worry about me I'm used to being dumped........ However if you would like a temporary partner, I'll see you on Wednesday. Cheers George

A great fun night It was great to see the Mullhollanders riding and very interesting to see that Mullholland senior wasn't taking many turns at the front...... somethings never change. Campbell is off on one of his many Med cruises next week, I'm therefore partnerless and looking for someone to drag me along the course next week. If anyone else is in the same boat I'm willing to try and keep up. cheers George
